Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

Edit by pixiesbite

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

Hanae, Mustangs aren't very great for a cross at the moment if you want it dominant because they are so low GP wise. If your not in to ponies, you could always try a Hanover/Fry cross. They are very decent and I have breed a few very nice compers with them before. And to your second question, it depends on how well you understand a horse and what comps your looking at. Typically its easier when the different skills match a specific rase but if you get one that doesn't particularily match a given race, it may be tough to comp for anything unless you beach in a skill to bring up the adantages in a comp....if that makes sense.
Hanae; it depend what youre goal is. If you are breeding for a certain comp then you want to breed for those skills. If you're looking for something that may be better all around then you want to try and even out the skills. You could breed a certain dominant breed ad then try and cross that way you can be first in the skill rankings. Like a tb cross bred to take the trot rankings and be first for trot

Thank you everyone, I will look up the directories, and decide on these things default smiley :) You really gave me lots of help, thank you a lot default smiley :)
Here is my latest cross. I have two...
Also, I managed to get a P. stroke for any horse I produced for a whole month (BINGO prize). It is time consuming to give them the item but worth it in the long run.

Can someone PM me the advantages of cross breeding? x

Crossbreeding is just a fun alternative to pure breeding - you can meet amazing new people in this topic, and produce ranking horses. It's very fun if you try it out.

Hey!
What are two GREAT breeds of horses to mix for a Dressage Comp?
What are two GREAT breeds of horses to mix for a Show Jumping Comp?
What are two GREAT breeds of horses to mix for a Cross Country Comp?
What are two GREAT breeds of horses to mix for a Trot/Gallop Comp?

PM me please! Also I would like to join a breeding group with mixes? Is it possible?
Thanks,
HoRsElUvR
horseluver, for dressage a lusi/ fresian combo is great.
Not sure about the other; you'd have to look in the directories to see which breeds would do good.

I have cross bred a few horses but nobody wants them because of that. I see now that cross breeding has it advantages. I will continue cross breeding my horses.
So thanks! default smiley :d
Hey y'all. Twi be-ith here. I don't think I'll be able to do a Trake for a little bit... it's heartbreaking...
Anywho. Off to eat and do the Bingo thing...and y'know drop in here.

Proud of my new foals- Nokota/IH cross. Should be good at Trail Class or Western Pleasure.

The GP isn't the highest for a Nokota Cross, but oh well.

Skilled a nice cross today-and amazingly, when she was getting her wins, I had over 10 pms to stop entering her. Seeing as she had about 5-15 wins at the time of the pms, I asked why politely. And they had the nerve to tell me that they were trying to BLUP their purebreds and that my cross shouldn't get first dibs on the comps. Ug! The nerve of some people!

Anyways, see my lovely TB/Friesian

SeldDog, haha! They were just jealous of your awesome cross! default smiley ;)

I am breeding Arabs and Paints for a great stamina/speed/dressage horse! default smiley :)
By Retired breeder, 21st March 2012 22:30:28
Not- I sure hope so! I have a purebred TB(mother of the cross) that has over 1000 wins, and maybe got 1 pm about it! Amazing stereotyping on here!

I want to bred her....and I am thinking a Nokota/GV or Nokota/Lusi to boost trot skills and dressage. Any comments on breeding options? And I am open to giving a few foals away (well, for the covering price +foaling cost), to some breeders that would use them for something...default smiley (lol)
By Retired breeder, 21st March 2012 22:31:43
flower- maybe you would go with 2 high skills to start. Besides, Arabs already have those 3 top skills. If you want dressage, go for Lusis or Friesians, if you want stamina/speed- Arabs are a nice choice. default smiley ;)

Ultra Cross still doesn't have an EC
I need carrots and 47e lessons at least to get a good gain
I'm going to cross again as I have 10 aging points to sparedefault smiley xd
By Retired breeder, 21st March 2012 22:41:20
Owwie- 47e lessons are pretty bad. Shoot for 55-60e lessons. Offer to pay a EC to use it, maybe 40k or so? Try the EC classifieds.
By Retired breeder, 21st March 2012 22:45:46
I know, but UC(that's her nickname) will only reach like 200 skills, maybe up to 500
I won't pull her out either, so maybe I'll go for 50e lessons?
By Retired breeder, 21st March 2012 22:50:50
Owwie- Try then perhaps buying or breeding a different one. It would be quite a waste to bother doing all of those lessons and using BMI to skill a horse that will end up with a few hundred skills only.
By Retired breeder, 21st March 2012 22:52:48
I'm not going really use tons of BMi on her, I'm only putting a few bonuses, and then crossing againdefault smiley :)
By Retired breeder, 21st March 2012 22:56:57
Owwie- well, then there is not much point in having high lessons, since the point of them is to boost skills only by a little bit, which is only partially useful if you have a WOY. default smiley ;)
