Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

I entered two of my horses in the grand prix. Silver Belles came 734th and my purebred arab Allia came in 600th. Allia is a broodmare I use as the mother of many crosses.
For those who are into the advancement of six-skilled Frie crossbreeds, I have finally opened up the Kobalt Majesty line to the public. Foals are now in the public and private sales. 753 to 760 GP, 18* and more, and most past their Games and ready for training.

They stand out well on their own - most are Teared and will stomp the boards with a few Clouds. They can also be used as "bases" for further high-GP crossbreeds with more specialized design - high dressage, high gallop, re-crossed Friesians, etcetera. Think of them as "foundies" with three times the GP.

To me, this is what I've been playing the game for since day one - to produce an improvement that makes a horse noteworthy in ANY competition, not just one specialized skill. Friesians in particular have always captivated me with their combination of mass and grace, and to be able to "craft" a line of Fries with balanced abilities has been a dream come true - even if they're only pixels, lol.

Take a peek at the kids and let me know what you think, eh? I am anxious to see what the crossbreeding community in general thinks of this project.

Now, let's blow the purebreds off the Elite charts, shall we?

(insert wicked grin here)

No one is forcing you to come here, kalon.

I have a question for those of you who breed crosses down through generations (such as Paint/QH I saw mentioned earlier). What do you do through the successsive generations - do you keep breeding the crosses to each other? (So you're breeding Paint/QH to Paint/QH over and over) or do you add in purebred now and then? Or?? Do any of you breed more than two breeds down through multiple generations?

I have Welsh/Standardbred/hackneys (Welsh by breed) and am trying to decide where to go next with them.

kalon, sorry if it comes across as an advert, but honestly, where else can we go to brag about our crossbreeding achievements? This forum is a place where those of us who don't stick to purebred horses can mingle, swap genes, and toot our own horns a little when we do something really cool.

Miata, crossbreeding (to me) is a bit like tie-dye - there's a plan in mind when you set out to create something, but if it doesn't turn out exactly the way you wanted it that doesn't necessarily make it "wrong". There's a tremendous amount of flexibility.

I tend to recross each generation, but that's because I focus on six-skillers; other folks are focusing on a specific skill or GP goal, so their crosses will be different and more streamlined.

When I am looking for a potential stud for a crossbred mare, I usually look for one that is going to improve whatever flaws she may have and pay little or no attention to the breed. So I wind up with a lot of three-and four-way crosses without even necessarily intending to.

If you're looking to spice up your Welsh mixes, a little Arabian might help in the stamina area, Frie would help keep the dressage high, and Paint would help with speed. A Paint/Arab mix bred to one of your little mares might well be a very nice thing.

MaidenAtMidnight has 5 trot wins! Now 2nds or 3rds yet!

MiataManiac,
I usually breed back to a pure at least every other breeding if not every breeding. Sometimes I breed my crosses together but I find it helps further my project faster if I breed my cross to a purebred. I most often rotate between the 2 breeds so my crosses stay 25/75. they flip breed every breeding.

kalon,
no one is advertising here, a lot of us are showing off our newest advances but we are not trying to sell them just sharing our acomplishments with eachother. We have all worked hard on our crosses and we are proud of them. If you need advice all you have to do is ask and every one of us will be happy to give you advice, to the best of our ability. If we don't know the answer then most likely it's not about cross breeding. default smiley (lol)
