The NIB FAQ:

What is a NIB horse?
A NIB horse is a horse that is not inbred; every horse in its pedigree appears only once (with the exception of Ouranos and Gaia). Horses with "Horse Disappeared" in their pedigree are generally not accepted by NIB breeders unless the horses in question were bought before the horses disappeared and have verifiable pedigrees.

Are there green star NIB horses?
These horses have lower GP than green stars and other top horses, as not inbreeding limits the breeding availability and is slower to progress than breeding brothers to sisters and so forth.
**Misabel edit: The first Green star NIB horse was created on February 21, 2011 - a 6th generation Connemara pony with a star in stamina. He was the end result of a lot of hard work and effort, but now that some dedicated breeders have shown it can be done, we all have something to shoot for!

Are NIB horses considered better than green stars or inbred horses?
Goodness, no! Nobody here is attempting to make that claim. Just like the Zero GP horses, these players choose to play the game in their own challenging way.

How can I get involved with NIB breeding?
It's simple! Start by purchasing a few foundation horses, or horses whose pedigrees can be tracked down and verified as non-inbred. Then carefully breed them to create foals with good GP's and skills that are not inbred!

I'm thinking about doing non-inbred horses for a few breeds, but I have a few questions. If I breed foundation horses, with Ouranos and Gaia for parents, then that's considered a NIB horse? Also, can there be cross breed NIBs? Like if I breed my foundation Morgan with my foundation Quarter Horse, is that still considered NIB?

@Smokey--yes, those still count, as long as they're not inbred anywhere. You can definitely cross breeds!

Let me know if you get into NIB Quarters as there doesn't seem to be too too many of us around default smiley ;)

Rymskynx - default smiley (y) for you and your boy and a default smiley (n) for me...default smiley :( I inadvertently stuck one of my low-greens into one of your races...sorry, didn't realize Fay Fluorite was a NIB-contender....the showjump comps were so peppered this morning with That Horse and other horses with NIB or some-such in their names that I didn't check that one....one million thousand pardons...

LoloJean, since the don's just recently came out, they are pretty common place. However, with time they will become more rare as they are not among the start up horses. So finding foundations will be more difficult until Howrse adds the breed for the newer players.

Wild North, it happens, what'cha gonna do? default smiley (y) All my howrses with 'of Odd Color Farm' are NIBs, that's all I breed/show with the exception of my Newfie foundations and fillers. The comps for Newfies have been awful the last few days. The same few player's howrses are creaming almost everything I enter... ah well, just keep plugging eh? I've decided to thin my herd of other breed foundies, I just don't have the time to devote to them. Hoping they'll find there way into the herds of other NIBers.

I've given up trying to enter SJ comps for my NIBs for a few days until the dust clears....It gets even more tricky trying to find something for a lowbie green-star that doesn't hook either NIBs and/or monsters -- there's just a flurry on entries these last few days. Plugging away indeed....default smiley *-)

I'll be finishing the bolding on Caoimhe and then you may find her knocking on Quest for Tyme's box door with a rose in her teeth.....default smiley ;)

My Foundie I just don't know how her trainer does it... She is only 7 yrs and has 15 wins. I suspect she uses fillers, but as long as She gets the horse to 100 BLUP, I'm happy! default smiley (lol)

What I meant earlier is I wonder if we can agree to have one central person's forum to go for things like covers, fillers, and potential casual breeding partners- where everyone in the NIB forum will direct newcomers and where it can be established so that we don't have 12 different directories in a bunch of peoples' forums and all jumbled info. i love the idea of a studbook like Star Bar k Ranch has and the Stud farm Yankee Lady is making. I have been listed in Alassíeℓ's forum and in tigrelily's forums but it won't be useful unless we all go to the same place.
It would be nice to see that kind of forum like what Star Bar has expanded by breed and even offering mare services and a thread to ask for fillers since sometimes filler requests get lost in the other congratsing each other on nice GPs and cheap finds in the sales, and getting those darned 20 wins. I do totally enjoy reading everyones' accomplishments and tips in here. I think it is appropriate and kind of a support group for NIBers.
Nevertheless for the practical factor, wouldn't it be easier if we could all agree to go to one person's forum and have different threads for different breeds and a thread for filler requests only because we know how stinking hard and annoying those 20 wins can get sometimes?
I would volunteer my forum for this but I don't visit this thread that often and I am not popular nor a well established NIBer. I just think it would be so beneficial for us to have 1 central place to go. This person's forum should probably even list other forums to visit for other programs like Star Bar's and Yankee Lady's (sorry if you other players have info in your forums like this but these two are the ones I most recently read about and viewed)
I know there is an off-site NIB directory but to my understanding, it does not include things like a place to ask for fillers. Not only that, but I do not qualify for being on the list If I don't qualify, I'm sure there are other people who are NIBing who could be in a similar position as well. Regardless, I think an on-site EC forum would work really well for this. (plus I believe we are not allowed to advertise outside links in the forums) Does anyone think something like this could work or should I give up on the idea?

Emberrogue -- sounds like a good idea to me......I really like this idea of pooled resources and co-operation that offering/using outside covers and mares etc. suggests -- I know folk get super-paranoid about lost lines etc but I think it's safe to assume that anyone deeply involved enough in NIB breeding to join in on a group thread/discussion would make arrangements to pass their horses on to someone else should they decide to leave the game. The idea of accumulating a vast herd of foundies no longer appeals to me....the green-star breeders form breeding groups/partnerships so I don't see why it wouldn't work for NIBs.

So you've got my vote -- I'd be happy to join in and promote the idea if we actually had a spot to do it.....default smiley (y)

Maybe nominate a list of EC forums and we can all vote on the one we want to be the "head quarters" for NIBs so to speak?

Either way, I still plan on keeping mine open since I have been planning it out since before I even opened my EC. I try to direct people here or to the off site NIB forum so that they can get more/additional info.

ditto: cute and clever affix star bar! and yes!! that is the NIB directory I was talking about. When I had checked last year, it hadn't been maintained but now I see Starting Right's name on it and that has been updated default smiley :d.
I enjoy the ability to link to the players' account right on it. There is only 1 problem I can see about that site, however, and that is even though I don't see this specifically in the forum rules, I thought we were not supposed to list links outside of howrse in the public forums. Am I wrong? I just seem to recall someone being told it was a no-no in one of the public forums.
As Rivenwood seems to be the one moderating this, I doubt anyone here will get sanctioned or warned for this in here, but I don't want anyone on this game claiming NIBers get special treatment or something silly like that. As Wild North stated, people are too lazy to click the link or cut and paste and go to an outside site. I think an on -site forum would be much more likely to be visited. I know the NIB directory obsidianmoon started is easier to maintain and has a nicer visual format and the capability to see who is online at the moment which can be especially helpful for help with fillers. (I keep my howrse settings always to the secret option) I think is a very good resource that I know Riven supports being closely related to the creator and a NIBer, but how many people want to send their email address to the site or create one they don't intend to check just to register to it? That being said, I will certainly join the site If most people here can agree to use it for its intended purpose and continue referring newcomers to it, and it is ok for us to do so in this forum without breaking rules.
I guess my biggest problem is that I do not know whether or not links or website addresses of outside sites are typically allowed in the forums. Can someone please enlighten me?
oh and I am fine if we want to stick to the on -site listing and think it would be fair to vote for whose forum to use. I would just hope that somehow whoever has info in their forum already will see that we intend to vote for something pretty significant like that. If we did agree to do that i think we should try to make sure one of us posts the idea that we would like to vote for a singular forum on each page if at all possible so that it is more likely to be seen by anyone who has already tried to start a resource for NIBers in their forum.
sorry I'm rather long-winded... this is something I care about and am trying to put a lot of thought into it.

The first-ever 'A Connemara Thing' foals have been born. From foundation parents, these foals will have 358.19GP AFTER games and a whopping 108+ inborns. Not too bad! default smiley :d Thank you to HYDEIST for the covering.
