The NIB FAQ:

What is a NIB horse?
A NIB horse is a horse that is not inbred; every horse in its pedigree appears only once (with the exception of Ouranos and Gaia). Horses with "Horse Disappeared" in their pedigree are generally not accepted by NIB breeders unless the horses in question were bought before the horses disappeared and have verifiable pedigrees.

Are there green star NIB horses?
These horses have lower GP than green stars and other top horses, as not inbreeding limits the breeding availability and is slower to progress than breeding brothers to sisters and so forth.
**Misabel edit: The first Green star NIB horse was created on February 21, 2011 - a 6th generation Connemara pony with a star in stamina. He was the end result of a lot of hard work and effort, but now that some dedicated breeders have shown it can be done, we all have something to shoot for!

Are NIB horses considered better than green stars or inbred horses?
Goodness, no! Nobody here is attempting to make that claim. Just like the Zero GP horses, these players choose to play the game in their own challenging way.

How can I get involved with NIB breeding?
It's simple! Start by purchasing a few foundation horses, or horses whose pedigrees can be tracked down and verified as non-inbred. Then carefully breed them to create foals with good GP's and skills that are not inbred!

How much is a fundation horse (the horses you get at the start of the game worth by the way?
It depends on the horse. If it has 100 blup and some BM items you could pay up to 80k or some equus and 4 or 5 passes.

for example Balanced Rythm

was 2500 eq and 4 passes but comes with full GP gain and 100 BLUP just needs a bit more skilling to get his IBS over 400 and then he will be ready to breed.

Oooh, nice - good luck BLUPing him! I already traded my Centaur Pack for an Atalamnte Pack so I can't help there, but I have seen a lot of players sellng them so if you have enough equus you could probably pick one up.
By Retired breeder, 16th January 2010 12:35:39
Rowen - oh no!! Sorry about the gelding thing....default smiley :@...I bought a mare that I was sure was a stallion when I looked at the page - -then again, it could have been me glazing over in my auction-zombie stupor. default smiley (lol)

Repeat the mantra...sales bad saving equus good....

Today is the day I start working on my NIBS again... I got a bit distracted by mustang unis recently, but am not planning on breeding every day so hopefully I'll get a few ponies done. I'll be ready to breed my first 2nd gen soon.
By Retired breeder, 16th January 2010 13:23:20
bluetempest, I have a Centaur Pack I don't need. default smiley ;)
By Retired breeder, 16th January 2010 13:42:15
Anyone breeding Hackneys? I've got a 23 year old mare who's been stuck on 14 wins for ages. I doubt she will get those 6 remaining wins, so I'm looking for a foundation stallion to breed her to. (or for some fillers to help her out a bit..) Thank's in advance!

Haha Wild North, the two of us are in the same situation right now default smiley (lol) Currently surfing Howrse and very much ignoring the ringing phone default smiley xd
No Nonsense Cowgirl~

I keep track of lines in a very old fashioned way. I bought a little black notebook and I list each generation and the baby that they have in there and I set up my breedings way in advance. Foundation bred to foundationl, 1st gen to 1st gen etc. My goal is to try and get 75 pairs of foundation 100 BLUP horses and then I am hopeful I will have enough 1st and 2nd gen horses to breed together to get at least to 5th or 6th gen.

Who knows if it will really work or not.

Thank you Sunny83, I was very impressed by him as well since both his parents are 1s gens bred before the gp change. He is my only 2nd gen right now poor thing.

bluetempest~I like your new Uni he's mighty handsome. I will have to keep and eye on him I think I'm one Uni stud short in my breeding pairs default smiley ;)

Wild North~ Yeah I think that is exactly what happened to me. It was around 1 am and my eyes were shut when I hit the buy button. Sales bad saving equus good.

Rowen - Know all about that, I've had a few who refuses to win that last competition *sigh* Hope your two horses get their win soon default smiley ;)
He doesn't look finished yet but he just got his last two wins so when he ages he will be 100 Blup foundation Arab Stallion

Not the greatest out of the ones I trained so far but he finally agreed to get his last win default smiley (lol)

Just a question, what are the standard BM items you guys put on your foundation horses? I'm always up for getting Arms on mine but it's expensive default smiley (lol) Urg, I wish I didn't have the option to buy passes, I'm ruining myself default smiley :o
By Retired breeder, 16th January 2010 15:29:22
I use either MA or Nyx Pack, plus Tack Pack (and Timer if MA used instead of Nyx). default smiley :)
I usually do a tack pack because it comes with the extra stroke bridle saddle shoes and eolus wind all of which give you bonuses. I try to do a Cronos Timer but you can train and compete a foundie without it, it just takes longer. If they are really having a hard time I do Medusa's blood and a Golden Apple, but usually only if they are having trouble when competing.

I've thought of starting with the Nyx Pack on my horses myself because I think it's so much cheaper if I only take MA and CT on... but it I isn't default smiley xd and with a GA on top of that it's suddenly at the same price as the Nyx Pack default smiley (lol)

With the other BM items in the Nyx PAck I guess it's a better option, it just seems so expensive with 6 passes default smiley (lol)
By Retired breeder, 16th January 2010 16:07:34
Rowen - ugh---that's a shame about your one-away-ers.....default smiley :(

i was wondering about the BM items for the foundie/NIBS....the Nyx pack does make me cringe with the expense of it, I usually save it for my greenstars but....it's true, adding on item by item is no less expensive in the end....

At the very basic, I have a CT and WoY (for my older-starters)...and then go from there depending on how much they're struggling to win. default smiley (lol) I love adding a GA coat but the pony coat selection isn't as good as for the horses....imho, anyway...default smiley (o) I'd love to do MAs for everyone because I'm so VERY impatient...default smiley (lol)
Wild North~ I hear you. I think I went through about 30 passes this week. Primarily trying to help my older foundies to make the grade.

I think I will need less BM items when I start them from babies myself and I am competing before I start training in that area. I think they will really do better, but we will have to wait and see.

My first babies are just starting to compete in trot right now and are not being too impressive but from what I hear not many people get good wins in trot with their arabs so I won't worry until I get into the show jumping classes which is next.

Rowen - I absolutely agree -- it's much easier when you're training your own babies rather than salvaging some poor forgotten soul from the auctions...*sigh*....really wondering if I should shelve some of mine, it's such a daunting prospect.....default smiley *-)

default smiley (lol) Pay-day = pass-buying day....sad, but true.....default smiley :-))
