Agreed.

Do people actually wash their model horses, as in give them a bath? I know people make tack and stuff for them?

This topic might say Schleich but the players are free to talk about model horses in general whether it's Schleich, Breyer etc. So far this has been a very interesting, enjoyable an enlightening discussion an I wish to see it kept that way.

For my OF Breyers ,OF North Lights, Schleichs and CollectA's I give them a bath (so to speak) once a year.

I lay a bath towel in the kitchen sink.
Use just a tad of Dawn dish washing liquid on the model.
Gently run my hands over the model an if need be I will use a Q-Tip to get the inside of the ears and grooves in the mane/tails.
Use the sprayers to rinse them off thoroughly.
Stand them on bath towels I lay on the kitchen table to air dry.

Thanks for the hoof polish tip! Thing is I have to do it when my sister isn't home... I don't have clear polish and she'd think I'm crazy!

With custom models I use a cotton cloth (old cotton tee shirts are the best)....wipe them off, use the Q-Tips for the ears (hooves also if they are carved out)...an...if the mane and tail are haired I take a spritz of either hair mousse or hair spray onto a baby toothbrush and gently comb any stray hairs back into place.


And with regards to clean nail polish? You can also gloss the eyes an inside of the nostrils as well.

I rinsed off my horses after I took them outside for a photoshoot with my friend... If that counts as a bath . I also tried to perform minor surgery, tried to fix a dislocated... Back of hoof? Is there a name for that?

By the way, if you have one of those DIY wire hoof picks, make sure it is VERY dull, or don't use it. It scrapes the hoof paint off. I have a playmobil plastic hoof pick, I may try that next time because its a lot more rounded.

I'm thinking... Paperboard and wire could make an excellent round hay feeder...

I like taking my white Arab mare and rolling it in dirt and then giving it a bath.

I am sorry if that came out rude i did not intend it to come out that way for any one, just how many people who have loved schleich talk about breyers and i think that maby you should talk about that in the breyer topic unless you say something like i collect schleich but also i have a few breyers or something like that. I once agian i am sorry if any found what i said was rude.

I have that one! She looks like a guy throughbred in my opinion so I call them that. I have some really old ones though, I love to play with my schleich in water caus ethey dont really chip. I once a year I take A damp cloth and rub the dirt off of them!

I wouldn't be able to schedule an annual bath I'll wash them after they're outside, that's about it.

Shish Kabob I think. Yeah I was thinking bamboo skewers, but I wanted a good base.

On bamboo skewers: you can cut them with wire cutters, and they "splinter" a TON, but they're so bendable they cannot get stuck in your skin. They bend first. However I sand them before making them into poles

Not to get on the bad side of a mod, but, this is a topic for Schleich... I don't mind talk about Breyers, but I agreed on her statement. If that makes sense? I wasn't agreeing(?) with it should be strictly for Schleichs, but still. There is a Breyer Topic for a reason, and a Schleich Topic for a reason.. .3.

It is ok to go half off topic for 5 messages or so, I do believe. Irene created a breyer topic so she could talk about breyers all the time (right? ), but I think it's ok to talk about other model horses a tiny bit, especially for comparisons or craft ideas.

Who else loves the new 2015 Knabstrupper mare or Icelandic mare?!
