Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

If you are asking about breeding 2 50/50 crosses with all different breeds, here's an example:

QH/TB stud + Appy/Paint mare = TB foal
TB/QH stud + Appy/Paint mare = QH foal

Basically, if it's 2 50/50's with none of the same breeds, the foal will be whatever is listed second in the sire's genetics tab. Hope that helped.

If you had a kwpn mare who was 75%kwpn and 25% thoroughbred and you bred her to a kwpn and her progeny to kwpn would it be possible for the progeny in a few generations to become pure kwpn?

It wouldn't. But ii remember correctly, it should get down to 99% and 1%.

You used to be able to do that a very long time ago, but not anymore.

Speaking of perfect thirds, here's Sinful Desires, the Teared version of the boy equest linked. So fun! Love these guys. And thank *you*, equest, for all of your help! Been great working with you, as always!

Very impressive, congrats equest and KR. working on something speedy myself currently.
Just started an Arab/Gypsy crossbreeding project in hopes of getting some good stam horses. My highest GP horse is a stallion that's coming along nicely for now, almost done blupping him... the rides take forever though!!!

Any tips/suggestions for crossbreeding in general?

Thanks! These should take #1 and #2 for speedy TBs. Then the dam and granddam will be #3 and #5 for speed as well.

I hope it's okay to ask.

I'm thinking about getting into crossbreeding as a side project to my (currently slow) NIB-project.

Can someone just briefly go over the basics of what you guys do or direct me to a place for cross-newbies? ; ) Thanks.
I got a M. Arms from the promo and will be using after I finish the parent with ap. Which may take a few. But anyway super excited for the foal!!

I bred this girl: Enya, yesterday (she has a twin named Elaine). She might not be top anything but I'm excited for her!

SweaSol - You can breed for a lot of different things. Like some (as noted above) breed to achieve a goal of a perfect 33.3% cross (Impressive by the way!), some breed based on skills like if you want a horse that excels in a particular competition, and some (like me) just breed based on the crosses they like together (Like my Selle/Crio horses). It all depends what you want. Is there anything particular you want to achieve or breeds you want to breed together?

It's good to decide what kind of goal you have first. Do you want to create a comper that will dominate breed-only comps? Do you want to try for the breed skills boards? Do you want to recreate some real life breed through breed mix and skills genetics?

A few examples. These are assuming you use the top horses in sales and/or public covers, or you contact the top team and see if they are cross-breeding friendly and give above public covers.

Gypsy x Paint or Appy, Gypsy dominate, will give you a great breed-only horse for Trot, Gallop, and Show Jumping comps. Beach for speed, keep Trot untrained and beached down. Train and bold all other skills. Depending on GP, you could make the Gypsy ranking boards for speed.

Gypsy x Lippi, Gypsy dominate, will give you a great breed-only Reining and Barrel horse. Leave speed untrained and beached down, beach up Gallop. You may make ranking boards for Gallop.

(both above examples also work for Arabians instead of Gypsys)

TB x KWPN or Selle, TB dominate will give you a great breed-only Cross Country horse. Leave stamina untrained and beached down, beach up Jump. You may make ranking boards for TB Jump skills.

TB x Gypsy, TB dominate will give you a great breed-only Reining, and Barrel horse. Split beach rides between Stamina and Gallop, beach down Trot and leave untrained. To make a great WP comper, beach up only Stamina. Should still do well in Reining too. You may make TB skills board for Stamina.

Started training Blaze's twin sister, Wild Fire. Sadly, I went 1 point over the Rookie limit in her dressage. On the bright side, I did a test foal out of her to see if a 75 Arab/25 TB would look good and this was her colt. I think I am happy with his GP. default smiley :)

Any one know if the Rookie comps will update soon? If not, I might just take my chances and fully train her first.

Very nice. Are you doing breed-only comps then?

Wait until tomorrow to see. It seems to update sporadically. If it doesn't, I'd just go ahead and finish training her and see where you end up. Really though, you should have left Trot, Gallop, and Jump totally untrained until you had her wins done. As it is, they're all too high to see low-level comps in rookies or open. You'll be going against the big guys who are being skilled for the GP or the top team blups.

Here's my 33.3% Skiller boy. I didn't get as good of IBS as KR did, but not shabby. I tried three Hera's packs and gave up, lol. Not sure what I'll do with all the extra foals... default smiley (b)

He'll be available for breeding after he gets some more wins. Sorry if I'm blanketing Trot comps right now. I won't enter any more...

Perfect Thirds

I have no idea what to name him, so yeah... I used a MH I had in inventory and got the Shaman unfortunately. I do like that Ow Ray paired with it though. Why not, right?

Looking good, equest! Sinful is not getting touched until I do my Trake girl. And that's the Enchanter coat. Unless it's been changing and I'm just not able to see that. Lol.
