Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

Thanks bibbs, I'm gonna put that in my equestrian center
Dear Prudence and Cigarette Daydreams out of my SoA mare! I'm not really sure how the whole 'giving the Pestilence coat' works so I mean I hope one of them ends up with it?

no...

If a horse has the pestilence coat, they will be born with it

@UnionRags123 yeah I figured that out. Oh well, hopefully I get a bit more lucky with the mare's last 3 possible coat-giving coverings default smiley ;)

@Kiatomi

That's amazing! Thank you ^.^
By the looks of it, the breeds he's throwing out are completely random. But when he's bred with other skillers he's throwing out strong numbers.
Fingers crossed he becomes a reputable stud!

I'm super pleased with this new baby, first one in my test criollo/arab line. Definitely going to make a nice western comper I feel.

Platinum & Gold

and I'm also extremely proud of my brumby cross here. He's ranked #10 for stamina of the breed and #13 for dressage. Definitely some big accomplishments on his part and first bred horse by me to rank so well. If anyone would like to use his as a potential sire for any projects, just let me know c:

Gary

I intend to improve the cross more now, by adding in some Peruvian Paso to better the trot and a Gypsy Vanner to improve the stamina! default smiley :)

That's so cool! I've never had a cross (or any horse) be the top for his/her breed (or any good ranking for that matter)! Way to go!

Strawberries & Creme is my my newest addition to my Ariollo (Arab x Argentinean Criollo) project. I am super pleased with how she turned out. She has a twin that is in limbo right now, I may go and work on her later.

I am trying to crossbreed more on a crossbreed horse. I am trying to improve the skills of trot and jumping. Does anyone know what breed excellences in those skills?

Our posts overlapped as I answered in your topic in game play.
But to add on to that for what you're doing, it also depends on if you want to try to keep other areas high. You could improve the trot and jump by breeding to a Knab or Nokota, but you might lose stats in other areas.

Really? I didn't know that crossbreeding did that..default smiley (o)

Well yes. It takes the averages of all of the skills of the horse. So if your current horse is good in, say stamina, and you breed it to a horse with low stamina (but high other skills) then some skills will be improved, and others, like stamina in this case, will get lowered.

It's not because of crossbreeding per se, but rather because of whatever the stats of the parent's are. To figure out the GP of the foal, you take the average of the parents
([sire's GP+dam's GP]/2).
If you want to figure out the individual stats of the foal, then you'd do the same thing. So if you want to know what the foal's gallop GP will be you take the average of the parent's gallop GPs.

For example, I wanted to crossbreed a really good reining horse so I needed to look at stamina, gallop and dressage skills. I thought a breeding a Lipizzaner x Thoroughbred cross because I would improve the gallop of the Lipizzan by breeding it to a Thoroughbred. However, the Thoroughbred had maybe 300 GP less stamina than the Lip, so I would be sacrificing stamina in order to improve gallop. I usually calculate the stats of a potential foal to see if the cross will work or not before I actually breed my horses.

It just depends on where you want your stats at or if you don't mind giving up some GP loss in order to improve other areas.

I am proud to present my first ever "real" Grand Prix cross skiller that I hope will hold its own against purebreds in the gallop Grand Prix tomorrow night: Alea Iacta Est

She (soon to be a he) will reach 9215.06 total skills and is expected to be #1 for Appaloosa gallop.

A big thank you goes out to American Horror Story for putting up with my incessant covering requests and being wonderful to work with, as always. default smiley :p And a thank you goes out to my team Ineffable TBs as well, for being hard workers and for being some of the nicest, most supportive team members around. I have always dreamed of making a top GP Appy x TB to run in the Prix and now that dream has finally been accomplished, regardless of where he places!
