Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

What would you guys think of a QH/Shagya cross?
Ring of Fire

I have this girl here that I bred. And I was thinking of crossing over a Lusitano because they seem to have the highest GP covers as of right now. Ideas? By far not the best horse ever but I ws just wandering of the skill sets would match up okay lol. I've never purposefully crossed default smiley xd

Hi everyone,
I'm new to crossbreeding and I'm wanting to crossbreed my Knab to produce a crossbreed Knab foal. I'm just wondering a few things. First of all, is there a way to guarantee my foal will actually be a Knab or is it total pot luck? This might seem an incredibly stupid question and it probably is so sorry default smiley xd Also, what do you reckon is the best crossbreed for a Knab?
Thanks!

The beauty of cross breeding is that there really is no "best" cross as it just depends on what type of comps you want to win with the horse. Everyone has their own goals, so different crosses work with different goals. When thinking about a new cross project, I typically first decide what competitions I want to target(i.e classical all rounder or a gallop comp monster). If I want a gallop comp monster then I'll compare skill sets of gallop specialty breeds with other breeds that use gallop or speed or dressage

Early on I made one sheet that lists all the competitions with the breeds that specialize in them, along with a listing noting the complete skill order of each breed. That way I don't have to go searching through the directories for skill sets and what not whenever I want to breed a cross, so using something like that might work for you as welldefault smiley :)

@Mart - a Noko/Knab cross wouldn't be half bad. I've been considering doing some once my Knab hit a higher GP.

I'm so close to having my first set of Warlanders! Starting just PSH/Fresian and going from there. With luck I'll plug in some Lusti soon and a bit more Fresian and the stock will be set to sibling breed!

So thankful for Fantasy Fresians for making this possible.

Which breed(s) have a skill set opposite of the QH?

Since their skill set is gallop, speed and dressage, you'd be looking for stamina, trot and jump, and judging by the sheet I have there are no horses with stamina, trot and jump as their top skills, unless I missed one??

However, you do have many choices that have 2 of the top 3 skills opposite the QH. Cross country , pleasure and trail specialists fall into that category along with Trakeners, Standardbreds and Curlies. I wasn't paying attention to skill order within the top 3, but just looking at what the top 3 were

@bibbs - So if I wanted to cross a QH with a Curly (that combination just sounds cute), how do you think the foal would fair in comps?

Lilac has reached 100 wins! default smiley *-)default smiley <:o)
I did a calculation using an elite QH and Curly and the foal's stamina, gallop and dressage was around 1100 with speed at roughly 1000. Trot and jump were in the 800s. Different skills were improved on for the two breeds, but I don't have much experience with breed only QH and Curly comps to know if those skills would be high enough to be competitive in them. The skills would be more evenly distributed(for the most part) so the foal wouldn't have a standout skill that is super higher than any of the others

You could probably experiment with it to see how it works. You never know, it might have just low enough skills in a couple areas to slide into lower level comps and dominate in them

Hmm, maybe I'll try and experiment on a QH/Curly at a later date. Do you have any knowledge of what a QH/Standardbred foal would look like?

I apologize for peppering you with questions, Bibbs, but I'm fairly new to crossbreeding and have no clue as to what I'm doing.

What do ya'ok think about a KWPN/GV Cross would look like? Maybe, a fatter version of a KWPN, with tobianos and the "feather-fur"default smiley (d)
If the IBS had been around 1950.. would this horse be good for getting rosettes?
