Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

Bred this little pretty one for a bit of a side project of mine. She'll be a good mare to breed from later on, too~

If it were me, I'd probably do cross country mostly for wins and Dressage for the gallop gain (and maybe some wins)

Need to refine him but my first colt! Finally! Gonna be a good crossbred stud for highlands(dominant).

I need someone to tell me what comps he would be good at and how I could improve GP in my next one for the highland breed. Right now I can only breed 5000+GP to 3000+GP to produce 4000+GP highland foals, any ideas?

Highlands are naturally good allrounders anyway but I'm think to focus on something? Don`t know what though.

Well first off, your IBS and GP would be miles better if you bred from 100 BLUP parents. Definitely don't breed with negative blup. Sure, that might mean you have to wait longer between breedings, but your foals will be much much better.

And then, depending on what you want to do, you can mix in some GV, TB, or KWPN blood. Highlands are good at stamina, speed, and jump. You can get the stamina and jump from GVs (and they offer really high covers) or a GV cross, and then later mix in a KWPN or KWPN cross in there as well to get the jump up?

Another possibility is Trakehners, if you're interested in boosting gallop as well, since Trakes are good at stamina, gallop, and jumping.

@Starry97 Thank you! I'll take your advice!

Um, does anybody know what I should breed with my two mixes to get better jump skills?
By Retired breeder, 24th March 2016 16:00:59

Selle Francais has the highest jump skills currently. You could try that and just sort the public coverings by highest Genetics and then highest jump. KWPN does have higher public GP covers available, but the jump is a bit lower.

How about Dressage and speed? I want to win some jump competitions and maybe Grand Prix. Eh. I just want to mix up some horses to have a good horse for all the competitions but primarily jumping.

That seems like a good horse for either specialty. What specialty are you taking?

KWPN and Selles both have speed and dressage among top skills, but KWPN has dressage before speed, and Selle has speed before dressage.

Lusitanos also have high dressage, but with them you risk losing out on speed to bring up gallop and trot. PSH has high speed and dressage, but again you lose out on jump.

If you don't mind using pony breeds, the Australian Pony has high jump, and then high speed and dressage.

Okay. I will BLUP her and breed her to an Australian Pony.

How about a gallop mix. I was working on it with MarwarisXThoroughbreds.

Don't paints have higher speed than gallop? Or am I thinking of something else?
What western comp uses jumping?

Maybe... I might've screwed up my thinking.

Thing is with that, is that Marwaris have high stamina, while TBs have high speed. If you want gallop, SPEED, and dressage, then I think a TB x Quarter horse would be better. If you want gallop, STAMINA, and dressage, then a Marwari x Trakehner would be a better way to go.

@yraeta Thinking about Classical to start with, if he doesn't suit that then I'll change him to Western. But, I definitely think Classical is where he'll excel.

He definitely looks like he'll do well in Trot comps and XC comps~

Hopefully he can get the 20 wins easy enough. I don't have many APs, so I don't know if I want to start him yet.

You shouldn't have too many problems if you hold off on training Stamina and Trot until after you get the wins. I'd say train dressage, speed, and jump, and then start comping for wins?

Well, got him to 2 years, 2 mths. And yeah, I'll hold off on Trot and Stamina until after the wins. I get my pass tomorrow from my reserve so I'll get him a nice GA Coat <3

If you hold of until the 26th, you'll be able to maybe snag a new RC coat for him in the coat release~ default smiley :d
