Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

I'm thinking of getting into crossbreeding.
If I do start to I definitely want it to be part Arabian since I have the most experience with those.
Anyone know any breeds that would crossbreed okay with Arabians?

if you mean what comps use those skills,

dressage and stamina - XC, WP
Dressage and Speed - SJ, trot, gallop

I'm not familiar with Western comps...except for Western Pleasure

All depends an what you are looking for? Do you want to boost the Arab's skills or make an all-rounder?

If you use a lesser known breed, it is lesser known. Less people will be trying to competitively breed it, which means low gp covers. Curlies and quarter ponies, for example--less known, lower GP covers.
More known breeds, kwpn and selles, more known--higher GP covers.
(These covers are either in the public covers or are asked from teams )

So.. I have been busy. Got a few little ones to show off.

BackInBlack and her twin BlackTieAffair - Marwari/KWPN cross, teared.

WhatIsDead... - PSH/KWPN cross, also teared.
Could someone give me pointers on my two horses on the previous page?

If Stamina is what you are going for then, yup, you are doing it right. But I can't see any else coming from that mix other than Stamina and Dressage.

There's also Cutting and Reining for Dressage/Stamina

Cutting can also fall under the Dressage/Speed as its required skills are Stamina, Dressage, and Speed.

Not dabbled for a while but reasonably pleased with this one i bred last week. Shame i'm too lazy to ever finish them default smiley (8) Not sure she'll be a big winner, (which is what i usually breed them for and try for comps won rankings) but it is helping run my trail comp so that's always a bonus.

Ugh, gotta love the ones that have the skills to win, but decide not to.
Latest trial. 493* KWPNxTB, KWPN dominant. He has a twin that I may bolt, because I need to make a TB dominant foal happen! LOL

He's nice, jumping is a little low for my liking, but I love to breed jumpers so that's just my opinion.
On another note, I ran out of APs again, so I am left with a half done Marwari/KWPN, who got a slight name change. >.> BackInBlack has become AlwaysWithYou She's a little hard to get wins from, but I'm happy with the progress made so far.

I think I got a good dressage horse! I might make another foal just to get the GP higher so kind of consider this a test foal of some sorts. What do you guys think?
Thanks Union and Moon, that is what I meant.

So for a horse high in Stam, Dressage and speed, Cutting is good?
I'm not familiar with any western comps default smiley (lol) I always make my horses classical.
Alright. Will check out those comps later, thanks.

I'm ready to really take action with my pony crossies! I'm breeding a pony with every pony breed in it default smiley :d
I know have a pony with two crosses in it for each breed. Only problem is they're goals and I have team horses to BLUP and other crossies as well as these ones. Thinking of only going to +70 for these ones.

I'm excited to finally share the beginning of my cross-breeding project line, Ðâŋṡѐ ḍѐ ḟĕṻ (The Fire Dancers), what do you guys think? Any ideas on what breeds I should incorporate into the line or what skills I should train up on?

The Ðâŋṡѐ ḍѐ ḟĕṻ line began with: Hajime who then produced Rebel and the next mare born was my personal favorite Renegade, who gave birth to my rosette winning cross Kaiyō, and then Kaiyo's sister out of Renegade Chikyū, and finally my newest mare in the line is the beautiful Ginga!

The majority of the mare's names translate out of rough Japanese to: Hajime: the beginning, Kaiyo: ocean, Chikyu: earth, and Ginga: galaxies. The names meaning are also reflected in the coats which is a theme I've tried to hold onto throughout the breeding process.

Thoughts anyone? Should I continue this line or end it here and start another?

not 2000, 1200 sorry
Question...if you crossbreed, does that make it somewhat harder to blup by 10?

Not necessarily. You still have its top 3 skills so you can always take the "blup comp" route (ex: a jumper placed in gallop comps for wins) and/or training the secondary and tertiary skills required for a comp so you can still see the low-skilled comps. I haven't experienced any difficulty. Honestly, it might even be easier since y'know maybe you have a KWPN that excels at trot comps or something like that.
Yay! I'm really on the way to my pony crosss!
I just produced a quarter pony x Shetland x Newfoundland x chinco (dominant).

Next ill breed my highland x fjord and welsh x Connie, and then breed that foal with this one, and I'll be done! Hip hip hooray!

Will post link tomorrow.
