Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

Question: for my end result dressage project should the horse be a Lusi or Lippi? I'm conflicted because both teams I contacted offered me top stud GP covers so I have to pick which one to accept at this very moment. All opinions welcomed along with reasoning if y'all want! default smiley :p

For some reason comps. take me longer to do when I do western comps. They're so much more complicated. I know which skills are required for classical by memory but I always have to look up western.
Chicken, I would say Lippi because they are a newer breed, they have lower GP and less people are breeding them.

I can help anyone with TB coverings...? I have a team stallion with 5500+ GP that I will give coverings for. Though you can get higher public ones. I will cover for 1000e.
Just PM me maybe if you want one. I haven't BLUPed yet though... default smiley (n) default smiley (ow)

I should probably start BLUPing my paint crosses at least to 70... * Sigh* boring BLUPing. And I have to do foal games... Crud.

Any ideas for a nice paint cross? No idea what I want.

What comps are:

Thanks

It is best to have more than two/three/four breeds? Which amount of breeds in one horse is the best?

I think it depends on what you're crossing for...

I was thinking maybe do a fjord x criollo x kwpn cross. That will pretty much have me an allrounder except for trot.

Hello I'm new. What do you think of this one
Anyone have any studs high in stamina but also high in speed, dressage, jumping, and a not too low gallop?
I'm working super hard to find the perfect stud forher as I don't want the foal to lose her already super good skills just because we needed some stamina skill points.

I have my Stud Quick Silver, but he needs to Finnish his Trot training and 15 wins.

On that note, I checked his current ranking after it updated. He is number 74 in Gypsy Speed!

If you're going for cross that excels in dressage comp, go for Lusi. You'll need their trot and gallop. Lipis have high dress and gallop but low trot, which is the 2nd most important skill.

I'm going for a perfect 3 way with those breeds; but I what I was asking was which breed should be the breed of my end result. Sorry for the confusion!
By Retired breeder, 18th March 2016 21:36:31
Nevermind! I'm making the final result a Lusi. My mare has already been reserved a Lipi cover and I don't want to be rude and decline it. Will post the the results in a bit; the comps finally went through! Yay!

This did not work out the way I wanted to. Dressage and gallop are high but dressage is SUPER low! I thought since gallop and trot were the second highest for those breeds with dressage being #1 that dressage would be #1 and gallop/trot being 2/3. Good thing she's a female so I can experiment with her children to get trot up without decreasing dressage and gallop by that much. Hopefully breeding her with a Lusi will help. If not this is going to be a looong project. Any suggestions though?

Anyways, off to BLUP this little beauty.

It's the Lipi's trot that killed it. Lusi will boost it a little bit. Any other breeds would kill either your trot or gallop.

Trot for a Lippi is super low, so that may have been the cause there. Both breeds have good stamina and dressage, so those won out.

Gr. I only looked at the top 3 skills. I didn't take into account that a Lipi's trot was REALLY low. *facepalm*
So should I start over with her dam or try to repair the damage with her foal? And which breeds would y'all suggest?
Hey guys, I am looking for a partner that wants to do some breeding with me. I am really active so I am looking for someone that will be as well! Please PM me just in case I don't see your post here. Thank you!

You can try redoing it with a Lusi or breed Lusi into it at a later date. Really all depends on you.

Hello!
I am a new player (first day!) and I don't understand what crossbreeding entails but id like to try it!

I have a few questions:

What exactly is the goal of crossbreeding?

I see that some people refer to certain skills as "the most important" is that an opinion or are certain skills actually more important?

Is it better to cross breed using more popular breeds or use lesser known ones?

Any other tips/tricks are greatly appreciated!

It really all depends what you're going for! That's the beauty of crossbreeding. You can try to 'make' a horse for a certain goal, or you can just experiment around!

'Most important skills' are usually referred to either skills necessary for certain competitions, or just what skill the breeder is looking to improve.

Breeds don't really matter too much, apart from perhaps Genetic Potential. More popular breeds will tend to have coverings available with higher GP than less popular breeds.

My biggest tip would be to always fully BLUP horses before breeding- That way you get the most IBS (inborn skills) and GP that you can! Your foals will turn out better, and they will produce better babies themselves.

To fully BLUP a horse, you have to:
a) bold out the top three skills (there will be a little arrow next to them on the training bars once you reach 2 years, and to bold them you have to gain all possible skills from training, competitions, and rides)
b) have 20 competition wins with your horse
and c) reach at least 10 years old with your horse
