Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

Edit by pixiesbite

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

I've managed to pick up a Curly in the sales. I know I've asked about crosses for them a while back but I can't seem to locate it. I wanted to cross her to a Paso for trot but it doesn't appear that any top Paso teams are cross friendly. Anyone have any other ideas?

@westernsky, thank you! i'm excited to see how she goes c:

Can't say I have a lot of experience, but another breed on the top trot chart is Tennessee Walker? Maybe look into those?

Unfortunately, public high GP trot breeds are hard to come by. Friesan covers offer high GP, but their trot isn't as good. Lusitanos offer high GP covers as well, but their trot is still about 100 off the best public Paso stud's trot GP. If you really want trot, you'll have to settle for a Paso in public covers. Which are only about 200 off the best, so it's not too bad.

Im not trying to be rude, but it seems that everytime i check in here you are asking about same breed 50/50 outcomes. While I understand that you want help, try and do some test foals without tears when you are unsure. you will get a sure answer thendefault smiley ;)
By Retired breeder, 21st October 2016 16:13:51

Seems to me it would be a 50/50 still. But as schmexy33 said, it's easy to do a test foal. default smiley :)
I grabbed this little one in sales to breed some shetland 4-ways but having trouble getting the wins... there's just like no breed only comps for XC, any ideas?

Was it already trained up like that when you got it? If not, you would have had more luck doing rookie comps. It's always a lot harder to get wins in open.
Haha no I did that.. it's how i BLUP my horses, usually works default smiley (lol)

If his specialty wasn't said I would have said to enter western pleasure since he's good in stamina and dressage. His speed isn't the best, but you could train up speed then enter low level trot comps

I rarely have it work out that way. Best bet is to always do rookies. I usually get the majority (if not all) wins just from getting their top 3 skills done with rookie comps.
By Retired breeder, 21st October 2016 21:17:51

Funny, thats how I do all my Irish hunters. I rarely do the rookie comps, but then again there are TONS of Irish only comps because they used to be a big breed until the lusis came. I would keep doing what you're doing, just look a some of the already registered horses first to see if youll beat them before you enter. That will give you one step up at least
By Retired breeder, 21st October 2016 21:19:49

I dont know the exact western comps skill sets but that one definitely screams western to me with the stamina, speed, dressage, gallop skills..
By Retired breeder, 21st October 2016 21:34:52

Cutting for skills, western pleasure for wins.

I managed to talk the Misfits Paso team into a cover for my curly! Waiting for the reservation. To Wand or not to wand, that is the question.
By Retired breeder, 21st October 2016 22:56:16

If you're only going to get one studding, I'd use a wand.
If it's something you may be able to repeat down the road maybe not?

I work with a very limited supply of passes though so I get kinda stingy. default smiley xd

Phadre - I have a few wands saved up from the lottery. I really need some tears but, of course, the only pass horse I have is the one I'm going to cover. I may be able to get another cover but I'm not entirely sure. Well, to wand, it is.
