Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

Edit by pixiesbite

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

What I have noticed is, everytime we do cross breeds ---- it's always the FATHER who is the dominate breed? Have you noticed that too, well I guess howrse has reasons for that, but it's kind of weird. I guess so you can make certain breed cross breeds so you are guaranteed every time that it would be a certain breed.
Example:

Thoroughbred (mother) x Irish hunter (father

And.... the foal is... you guessed it, hunter. Here's another one:

Quarter horse (mother) x Hanoverian (father)

Again... the foal is the father's breed, a hanoverian with 50% of quarter horse still, and the top skills (QhxHano) are dressage, speed, jumping... default smiley *-)
Until you get to the 25/25/25/25 crosses, chickentender. From there and beyond it's more of a random thing, much to my frustrations. default smiley :p

Thanks. Actually, Mix-n-Match's father is a QH.
Hmmm I heard that it is the dam's sire that decides it....unless the granddam has more percentage of a breed. It truly depends on the percentage. If you breed two 50/50 (say) Anglos together (one dominant arab, one dominant TB) the result is whatever the maternal grandsire is (dam's sire)

True. I can honestly say I haven't done much beyond 50/25/25 crosses, so I wasn't familiar with that rule when I bred my first 25/25/25/25 Quarter Pony cross. Was very irritating to waste some tears on getting foals that came out Arabian. Useless!

I really don't mind what breed the howrse is, because if I use a stally that isn't mine to breed, I do my research on the stally before I breed him to my mare.
By Retired breeder, 20th April 2010 01:19:10
I'm going to try and breed two arabs/tbs together. Well, technically anglos. default smiley :d
It is NOT "always" the father's breed. When working with even mixes, it is very often. >> If you breed a ArabxTB that is half and half to an ArabxTB that is also half and half, it should be the sire's dam's breed.

does anyone here have a mare with arms that at least has 3 stars in stamina and trot? I'd be willing to buy her for 10k and a pass default smiley :)
When not working with even mixes its whatever the highest percentage is. Bred my favorite cross (a half and half ArabXIH Arab showing) back to his mother (Pure IH) and got a 75% IH 25% Arab filly.

If anyone is interested, I have decided to sell Starshine. If you want her, please PM me.
By Retired breeder, 20th April 2010 02:42:20
Yeah, I've found that when it comes to breeding to half crosses of the same breed the foal is usually the recessive breed. There are some miracle mares that produce what you want though. default smiley :) I've had 2 so far, one is dead, but Silver Streak http://www.howrse.com/elevage/fiche/?id=8947670 has produced her own half breed. Check her offspring, the cherry bay foal proves it.

Here is my cross mare.. http://www.howrse.com/elevage/fiche/?id=9742714 She will be 100BLUPd once she turns 10 years. I'm hoping I can find a good stallion for her soon. (Tb/Paint or Paint/TB cross)

does anyone know somebody on here that has a mare for sale that has 3 stars in stamina and 3 in trot that's a cross breed?
By Retired breeder, 20th April 2010 03:27:57
BucketHead-no, but I might be able to produce one for you in the near future. =) PM me.
By Retired breeder, 20th April 2010 03:34:19
I am going to start to cross an ih and a brumby, because then I will have an awesome brumby to whoop up on all the low dressage full blood brumbies.... at least i hopedefault smiley (lol)

Yesterday I bred a nice Quarter Horse/Marwari filly. She doesn't have IBS, but I bred her 1- To see if I can help my barrel races along other than just with my purebred Marwari... 2 - I wanted to see how it would turn out... and 3 - Somewhat as an impulsedefault smiley xd Her mother doesn't have the highest GP, 686 or 696, can't remember which. I don't really mind though, as I'm not a pass buyer.
By Retired breeder, 20th April 2010 05:30:46
So, what's the crossbreed with the most wins?
anyone know?

Currently I'm trying to breed a barrel horse - low speed but high gallop.
It's coming along...see my affix Mezclado for some specimens default smiley :)
By Retired breeder, 20th April 2010 05:47:19
I just experiment with different breeds and anyfoals that are not the best go to sale
My homebred crossbreds are all under Blue Blood breeding farm.
And under the affix of Blue Blood.
I'm not into breeding crossbreds for the GP race or anything but rather as a pleasure.
I have one 1000 skiller crossbred that I bred called Blue Motion.
Pretty proud of my crossbreds
By Retired breeder, 20th April 2010 05:52:06
Hey, does anyone find that when they breed two crossbreds one can have lower skills but win comp more easy whereas a horse with more skills may will less easy?
Thats the case with my crossbreds Bluetiful Dragonfly and Blue Motion.
Check them out!

I had an idea for that exact problem it would be a bm breeding item. But it would really only apply to crossbreeders so I didn't post it cause I thought a lot of people would say it was stupid. But basically it would be an item that would cost one pass and it would give you the choice of what breed you wanted your foal

So if you had an Irish Hunter stallion and wanted to cross it with an Arabian mare but wanted the foal to be an Arabian you would use this item and be able to choose default smiley :) That way it would take a little bit of the guesswork out of it. Lol at least I know I would use this all the time with my crossbreeding.

And blue eyes I have seen that a lot with my lower gp/lower skill crossbreeds against a strictly purebred but it depends a lot on the breed.
