Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

Spanishroses, Frie x Hano is the fastest and easiest way to make a six-skiller, but there are plenty of other crosses to do as well.

So far I have produced six-skilled Paints, Hanos, Arabians, Hunters, Thoroughbreds, and Standardbreds.

The trick is to produce them with decent GP - most of your trot skill comes from either Friesians or Standards, both of whom are rather poor in GP (though Fries give excellent dressage and Standies give great speed).

It takes a lot of punch to bring that GP back up into the impressive range, and quite often you're left with a horse that is dominant in a high-GP breed (like Thor or Hunter) but has low GP for that breed. This makes comps - and selling the horse for a decent price - very, very difficult.

It's a challenging project, if you're looking for a horse of genuine quality, but oh so very rewarding when you get it right.

A classic example - Double-Barreled has two stars in every skill... great, right?

Wrong.

His GP is tanked so low, he'll be hard-pressed to do ANYthing right against purebreds, or even higher-GP crosses. It will take a ton of BM items and training to bring him his wins. Plus when it comes time to sell him, people will see a Frie with GP in the shallow end of the pool and pass him up for higher numbers. To make matters worse, his dressage is low for a Friesian, which will essentially cancel out the speed advantage he gains against his own breed. This means he'll get mightily stomped in the races, especially against other Fries.

Now Pardus, on the other hand, has plenty of GP spread out over those skills, and while he didn't win every race he entered, he managed his twenty wins in no time flat thanks to that high dressage. So even though he doesn't have multiple stars in every skill (he has only one in speed, trot, and jump), he still performed a good bit better than Double will.

Delicate balancing act, but do-able. And fun to boot!

I wish you luck, and let us know what works and doesn't work for you!

Heh, sorry about the long post, but I am a little obsessive about the six-skillers, in case you couldn't tell. They've been a favorite project of mine since my first day here.

When my first round of six-skilled Paints came out, they were very much in demand. To this day Chemical Balance, my first sixer Paint stud, is still the highest-GP stud of his kind. His covers are still flying out the gate as fast as I post them. He came about thanks to Eponym and his incredible HPX line, by the way - if you ever want to see a true legend in the crossing world, take a look at some of his past phenomenal work!

Almost anyone can make a sixer - it takes serious planning and effort to make a truly spectacular one!

thankyou hOrsElUvEr95, I also just had another thought, breeding Every.Titan.Dog to a high * IH, gettting the GP higher, and then breeding that foal to Friday, or possibly a paint with 800GP, they've hit that now =D

wifey, those are beautiful kids! Those are the kind of foals that any serious breeder would drool over in the sales. :-)
