Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

Cherokee Lynn (hey, can I start calling you CL?) - that's an awesome deal!
itunes9.0 - His highest skills are in stamina, dressage, and gallop, also like my mare Akeelah. She's won gallop races. So try that? Sometimes it takes a bit for a horse to start winning. My Arabian didn't start winning until I entered him in barrel races even though he's trained in cross country.

Sure call me Lynn or CL it doesnt matter. I know she was in sales for 5000 and I offered 2500 adn she said yes and I was like YES!!

I bought my cross mare Juliet's Tragedy for about 500e when she was just a little foal. That was probably one of my best investments ever, she threw me 7 awesome foals, two of which I kept, and now her daughter is producing beautiful foals as well.

I got my mare, Rosalind, for 1500 equus when she was like 7 and she has done me alot of good!! I would never be crossbreeding if it werent for her

I just bought a Morgan stallion that I named Radio Flyer...I think he's going to end up crossing with one of my Australian Pony fillies for a horse with high jumping skills.

I love those horses that just change the entire game for you. Juliet did that for me, because I wasn't feeling very attached to my Friesian stallion.
By Retired breeder, 4th June 2010 01:49:16
I am very attached to my stallion and will probably never sell him.

hey what do you think of my newest foal Poseidon?
Hi all. I've decided to try crossbreeding TBs to raise jumping skills/GP, and so that they do well in jumping and/or cross-country with the eventual goal of breeding back into a pure TB. The goal is obviously many generations down the road, but I was wondering if anyone had any reccomendations on what breed or breeds to cross with the TBs?
Also, I'm a novice at this, so, here's my novice question: what determines which breed the foal will be when I crossbreed? Obviously, I'd like them to mostly be TBs. Apologies if I missed the answer to this elsewhere.

DeXMonica-When breeding a purebred to a purebred of a different breed it turns out the fathers breed, otherwise it turns the breed with the highest gp.
By Retired breeder, 4th June 2010 13:08:49
itunes is right. When you bred two purebred it takes the father's breed. If you breed to 50/50 crosses with four seperate breeds it is supposed to be the father's mother's breed. In a 75/25 cross it is the 75% breed. And for any other it is the breed with the highest % in the foal.default smiley ;)I own a mare with about 1.6 irish hunter in her and I plan on breeding out that in her babies as a fun project sometime.

Great foal Guanaco!default smiley (y)

I'm liking of this X-bred Brumby foal I produced

http://www.howrse.com/elevage/fiche/?id=10092439

He currently has more GP than the top purebred Brumbies (my first cross to achieve that barrier), although same amount of greenstars

Won't be the last produced with that mix default smiley ;)

I'm quite proud that some of my crosses that I haven't worked since last year are still highly ranked default smiley (lol)

To answer DeXMonica, it won't be the one with the highest GP, it will be the one with the most dominant gene default smiley ;)
If both parents are 100% of their own breed, then the foal will take on the sire's breed

I cross Mustangs, with Paints/ Purebred Spanish horses/ Arabians and Quarter horses and ponies.

They all turn out pretty well, I just produced an arabian/friesian/ PBSH/ mustang cross colt that is the rarest new colour!!! (flaxen liver chestnut)

To be plain and simple, I do not breed 'Pure Mustangs' because in RL there is no such thing as a 'pure' mustang, they are mixed blood. Mixed with spanish horses and quarters and paints. So thats What I breed. Not 'Pure' mustangs REAL mustangs default smiley :)

Anyone else a REAL mustang breeder?
