The NIB FAQ:

What is a NIB horse?
A NIB horse is a horse that is not inbred; every horse in its pedigree appears only once (with the exception of Ouranos and Gaia). Horses with "Horse Disappeared" in their pedigree are generally not accepted by NIB breeders unless the horses in question were bought before the horses disappeared and have verifiable pedigrees.

Are there green star NIB horses?
These horses have lower GP than green stars and other top horses, as not inbreeding limits the breeding availability and is slower to progress than breeding brothers to sisters and so forth.
**Misabel edit: The first Green star NIB horse was created on February 21, 2011 - a 6th generation Connemara pony with a star in stamina. He was the end result of a lot of hard work and effort, but now that some dedicated breeders have shown it can be done, we all have something to shoot for!

Are NIB horses considered better than green stars or inbred horses?
Goodness, no! Nobody here is attempting to make that claim. Just like the Zero GP horses, these players choose to play the game in their own challenging way.

How can I get involved with NIB breeding?
It's simple! Start by purchasing a few foundation horses, or horses whose pedigrees can be tracked down and verified as non-inbred. Then carefully breed them to create foals with good GP's and skills that are not inbred!

Rivenwood's update schedule:
Sundays: Players breeding non-inbred horses may post the GPs of the horses they think are amongst the highest in the breed in this topic. Complete details should include everything listed in the form below. **Please DO NOT Submit GPs for rankings EXCEPT on Sunday!**
Misabel will post the latest high GP's for NIB horses in each breed from the Sunday submissions. Horses will not be named

Please submit your entry to the current high NIB GP using the following format in a post. It is important you use this exact format so Misabel can locate your post easily, or your submission may be missed:

Only thing I can say is when buying, always always always double check family trees and set up a spreadsheet for breeding.

Thanks for the welcome and advice!

Is a 1st generation the foundations or the first foal born from 2 foundations?

Gen 1 is the offspring of Foundations. Foundations are usually considered Gen 0 or just Foundation.

Just one quick thought about OG and RG. Why not restrict breeding RG within a timeframe - for instance year by year. This would prohibit gains becoming overwhelming. Once a year has gone by the previous year NIB foals would only breed within the new year and not beyond that. True the gains in a year can be very great but they wouldn't be as excessive as a 2013 foundie breeding a 2019 foundie.

Just a thought...

Does anyone know of any French Trotter foundations available? I have a player asking about them but I've never seen any, nor has the player who checks for RG foundations for me. I only check sales for OG. I have most breeds available, although no Marwaris and a couple other breeds I can't remember. Just look under my Sales tab and the OGs are separated by breed and the RGs are all together in the 2nd or 3rd tab from the bottom of the listing.

Trying to rank RG NIBs is never going to easy as the GPs are vary day by day, at times it seems also like they vary from hour to hour although I doubt that as they are probably updated when everything else gets updated. But it seems impossible to keep track of them.

As for trying to rank OB/RG crossings, that could never be done in my opinion. There are just too many variables that would have to be considered. What generations were bred, what the GPs were to the RGs being bred in terms of generation, what percentage of the equine being ranked is RG and how much is OG, and on and on and on and ...... Would be a nightmare for anyone trying to do it and I know that Misabel certainly doesn't have that kind of time.

Her lack of time, with so many other duties she has, is why this forum's OG rankings are only being done every few weeks instead of every Sunday as they were under Rivenwood. Who I really miss, anyone ever hear from her? She and I were early NIB breeding partners, although I can't remember which breed, think it was PSHes but I could be wrong.

I had a number of different partners depending on the breed project. That was in the days when you could do that without worrying about disappeared horses. Harder to do that now, although the TESF studs that have been used for breeding will never be sold unless it is to another long term player who isn't expected to ever quit playing and delete account. But for now they are stable under my TESF tab if anyone wants to use them. Don't have all the original breeds anymore, but most of them. And almost all of them are 351.20 GPs from the days when games raised the GP instead of the skills.

@Yankee Lady it's been years since I last talked to her. I don't know if she plays on other servers.

Many of the old time NIB'ers have etiher quit or gone into hiatus.

Some of us that are still working NIB's do it quietly. Some have it as a side project.
The forum that used to be super chatty has close to died.

Love it when I see players posting here. Would be great if this section could have a revival

Trying to get into NIB breeding but it's been a slow process because of the lack of aging points. lol
I wonder if Howrse would be open to making one of us a mod (or otherwise have permission to change the rankings) purely to help Misabel out. We are aware of their feelings for NIB... (*grumble*)…. If we could get them updated a bit more, maybe it will encourage more to get back into the NIB game?

Could we make a new thread?

Also, what would be the chances of getting a NIB checkbox on the search parameters?

Getting "help" for NIB breeding from Howrse might be a little wishful thinking, BUT if it involves more players (aka gets new people addicted!!) who otherwise would leave the game, that should be good for Howrse!

I'd be happy with way to check for just Ouranos and Gaia but tbh, Howrse has already shown us a few times that they don't care about this community so.... We are on our own :/

Maybe if they were able to see how many people are actually interested in NIB. A directory per se, or at least a listing of who all are all NIB breeders. Sort of like an illustration of "strength in numbers"

I doubt we will see any changes here, but maybe have another listing that is updated more often on some long-time NIBer or NIBer supporter. Not sure that would work, but it has been done in the past, of course the community was very different back then, also.

Jennifer, there is a list in my EC but it hasn't been updated in awhile. I believe Asfridur was awesome enough to make it default smiley :) I'll post soon about getting some updates for the list. Y'all keep an eye out.

If Rivenwood does return, it might be helpful for her to not have to check every post in this thread, meaning... I think an additional topic would be helpful if it was updated regularly. default smiley :) default smiley (y)

Unfortunately the likelihood of Rivenwood returning to Howrse is probably fairly remote, she wasn't always treated very well the last year she played. She is very missed and has been gone for quite awhile now.

But your idea of a topic/thread just for posting of NIB rankings might could be a good idea for Misabel who has limited time to moderator this thread. She is the one who does the posting now, but only has time every couple of weeks or so. Nice idea of yours, Gaited Splendor.

That would work nicely even with RG NIBs, in case we go for projects instead of rankings, there could be another thread just to post the projects, so they wouldn't even need to be listed or checked (if they're not NIB someone who is interested might want to point it out anyways). So all the maintenance would be getting the chatting out and check the not-NIB entries that have been pointed out. The other benefit would be that every project only needs one entry that can be edited. In that case I'd say, it would make sense to make the first posting some kind of inventory, just to be able to find all the different projects faster, so there's another bit of work to do, but that could be done by the one who opens the thread.

Of course it's a good idea even when we try to go with some sort of ranking, too. But in that case it would be far more important to check every entry if it's truely NIB.

One more thought on the OG rankings I had, if that extra thread is started by "our" inoffical moderator, it can get updated and maintained and Misabel would only need to copy the list from there to here. If the person in charge isn't available any more, the next person could just open a new ranking thread and this way, it could always be maintained by not-official people from the NIB community. There's just the question, who would want the job?

And thaks to everyone who had some ideas and opinions to share, it almost feels already a bit more lively in here and I hope it goes on like this.

How do y'll keep up with the lineage to know not to breed one horse again? Do you use just pen and paper or a program?

When I was NIBing, if I remember correctly, I did something like this:

FM Nasty 0
FM indicated foundation mare (if not fully BULPed would be FF showing it was still a filly)
Nasty the name
0 number in foundation generation

FS Funny 12
FS foundation stallion (FC for colt if not fully BULPed)
Funny the name
12 number in foundation generation

12M Sunny 2 13/5
12M 12th generation mare
Sunny the name
2 number in 12th generation
13/5 parents were sire/dame 13th and 5th in previous generation, in this case 11th

and so on. Just the names couldn't be that long, found it easy to follow back generations by looking first and last 2 numbers.

If that helps anyone, is great.
