Has anyone ever done any fun projects with any of the breeds whose top three skills don’t suit any of the competitions?

I remember I used to do KWPN/Selle, KPWN dominant so better jump than purebred, and higher dressage is good for SJ.

Still remember when KWPNs were the prix breed for jump until Selles were released. What a long time ago...

I'm considering crossbreeding this mare for the first time, but I'm not sure what to go for... I want to try to get a rosette winner for any discipline, really, though.

Please help, it's all appreciated!

Her GP's a bit low, so even if you used the highest GP stud possible, her foals would still be at a disadvantage in rosette comps.
Your best bet would be to cross her with a breed that has jump as its best skill, same as her, to get her foal's jump skill nice and high, so it can see and enter Show Jumping rosettes. Using a breed that also has speed and dressage as its other best skills would improve its rosette chances. For that, Shetlands and Aussie Ponies are your best bets.

Belgian Ponies, Hanoverians, Holsteiners, Newfoundland Ponies, and Russian Don Horses all also have jumping as a top skill, but their other skills aren't really suited to Show Jumping rosettes.

Between Shetlands and Aussie Ponies, the Shetlands have currently reached a higher GP, and the top teams have a higher GP cap for sales and coverings, so it should be easier to find a Shetland stud of a higher GP.

Yeah, I can see what you're saying about her... I think I'll absolutely give what you're suggesting a go, though!

Would this mare be a better candidate for crossbreeding and creating possible rosette winners instead?

Has anyone ever won a rosette from competitions open to all breeds? default smiley (o)
Just curiosity, because I did a few tries on breed a horse with the benefits from the breeds of her parents, and based on real life good mix, and never had seen a rosette from a public competition

(my horses were not suitable anyways, but just out of curiosity..)

That mare would be a much better candidate for Rosettes.

The most successful Thoroughbred crosses to get Gallop rosettes would probably be Appaloosas and Chincoteague Ponies. Appaloosas are a very popular breed, and should have plenty of rosette comps reserved for them, that the extra TB genetics would help win.

Quarter Horses and Welsh Ponies should also be successful crosses. Paint Horse and Purebred Spanish Horse crosses might be decent at rosettes, but they would struggle to see as many rosette comps.

Okay! I think I'll try with Maleficent first, then, and go for a cross with an Appaloosa.

Would I be better served with breeding her with a purebred or crossbred horse?

A purebred Appaloosa would probably get a better result. A nice high GP stud, fully BLUPed.
And Aphrodite Tears would be essential to get the IBS up.

I have one rosettes in the open galloping competitions with my TB/Paint crossbreds.

I have.
Some will have a more difficult time than others, because some comps have breeds with better skill distribution than others, and a crossbreeding will drag down the distribution of the better breed.

But in the end, it just comes down to the other horses that are entered. While a KWPN dominant KWPN X Selle cross excels in KWPN only comps, I can still win open comps against purebred Selles if I check the skills of the other horses already entered.

This is the foal my mare Maleficent gave birth to. What do you all think, a possible future rosette winner?

This guy did, but he also was a cross between top of the line KWPN with the highest release Selle I could find in sales at the time.

I'm not sure if teams would do cross covers now, I had him because I was on the #2 (later #1) KWPN team and all of us were messing with crosses lol

I think if you can get a top of line Prix breed mare with a fairly top non-Prix breed (but still has suitable top 3 skills for the comp) you can usually get some pretty good results.

And here is his slightly less glamorous sister who got comped less lol

If anyone has any ideas for any good studs for my mare Maleficent, please do share. I'd love to hear them.

Maleficent would probably produce some nice gallop competition horses if you cross her with Quarter Horse or Paint stallions!

Any recommendations for a Marwari? I want the resulting horse to be a Marwari and to improve my chances in reining comps default smiley :d

Thoroughbred would probably be your best bet for a reining cross. Appaloosa or Quarter Horse should also work well.

Here are some of my favorite Appy/TB crosses I’ve done recently. They’d have far more rosettes if I properly skilled them (with WoY and clouds) but I can’t be bothered. default smiley (lol)

Okay, so I've just finished BLUPing and BOLDing her skills... any thoughts on what I should consider doing for this mare's future as far as breeding goes?

Maybe a Holsteiner? That would probably bring the jumping and dressage stats up and Cassie’s speed is good enough that the foal won’t take too much of a hit there. You might end up with a nice jumping horse!

Would I be better served getting a purebred Holsteiner or another crossbred?

I would maybe try a purebred. I just crossbreed for fun and not competitively so someone else may have better advice.

I'd be interested in seeing Cassie crossed with a Lipizzan x Mustang to get an all-around workhorse in Cutting, Barrels, and Reining default smiley :)
