Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

If you're referring to the posts I made, your foal didn't take the dam's last listed breed because the parents don't have the same exact breeds. The parents of your foal have different breeds. The foals that take the dam's last listed breed have come from parents that have the same breeds and the same percentages such as these two(aside from the breed order, their breed genetics are identical):
Jamie
Claire
produce Brianna

When I bolted both parents they produced a Paso foal, which is Jamie's last listed breed.

Wow!! He is the most evenly skilled horse I've ever seen. I'm really surprised you could do that with just two different types of horses! I thought at the least it'd have to have 4 different breeds!

I usually find it very difficult to even out breeds as well. I think Paint/TW will do it, too, but I haven't done one in a while. I'm wishing I still had the Walker mare I used to get the KWPN/Walker stud now. KWPN/Gypsy/Mustang/Paso also evens out decentl, though trot is a little behind (Chalk Outline).

I don't know if someone has asked this yet or not, but I was curious if breeding a horse with a donkey was possible, or a horse and a pony, or a pony and a donkey. Would like to know for a big idea I have planned, thanks! default smiley ^)

Donkies cannot breed with outside breeds, but horses can breed to ponies.
So excited, Mockingjay just won me my very first rosette! I've never had a horse pure or crossed to ever qualify.. let alone win a rosette comp. Quite a big accomplishment!

If anyone would like to use her for a cross just let me know. I also scooped up several 6800+ close to 6900 GP Arabians that I plan to blup later today if anyone would like to add some Arab blood to their potential crosses. They will be above public covering GP too I believe. Not 100% sure as I haven't checked in a couple days default smiley (lol)

Very happy that Foxy Grandé has just won her third rosette! I thought the first might be a one off but we're still going!

Just bred a KWPN foal out of her, Tuscany Sunset who i'm just going to BLUP and breed back to Epic Bandit where I should end up with a Selle to BLUP and compete.

Oh my god your lines are beautiful default smiley (7)

To win rosettes, do you guys use fillers for the competitions? I have yet to have a cross that qualifies for/wins a rosette!!

If anyone wants a cover from this guy I can age him up to 100 BLUP. Lusi x TB, produced using the highest available public cover and sales. Just PM me.

I always enter the lowest rosette comps, use a filler, and make sure to enter against a divine I know my horse can beat. Like Rain, Fall/Spring/Winter, Dew, etc.

This is my current rosette winning cross. He has 15 XC and 6 cutting rosettes. That's with just minor rosette hunting for one day. He's not 25 and not clouded. A 4-way stamina cross that is Selle dominate.

I can't quote myself and don't want to bump up old posts too much, but the top of page 6946 has most of the known info for even crosses.

Eight way crosses work like this:
4-cross + 4-cross (A, B, C, D + E, F, G, H) = breed listed second for the sire

Here is my example. Your foal followed this rule.

I wanted to try cross breeding and I am looking for suggestions on what breeds I should try
This is dependent entirely on what you want from the horse. What skills do you want to be dominant? Do you want a Western, English, or a good all-rounder?

What would be some good breeds to add to a Don X TB to even out the skills?

Sorry for triple posting but the mare's highest skills are Dressage, Gallop, Jumping

Maybe a Standardbred?

We need a link to said horse. The skills of your horse depend on what the GP of each horse was. If the TB had significantly higher GP than the Don, then the foal will have skills closer to the TB side than the Don side.

Standies (although public GP is terrible) have top 3 skills that are your mare's lower three: Trot, speed, stamina (I believe in that order), so maybe try that. If you don't like Standy GP, Pasos are speed/trot/dressage (not sure on order), or Walkers, Fries, and Icies are trot/stamina/dressage. Mustang and Mars are stamina/speed/gallop. I may be forgetting some other breeds with similar skills as well, but those are the best bets to even that out.
Thank you so much Khaotic Rain!!

Some fun ones I have done:

TB x Gypsy - Make it TB dominate and you'll have a nice little western horse. Good for breed-only WP, Reining, and Barrels. Leave Trot untrained and beach your skills from Trot into Stamina. Gypsy dominate, beach from Trot into Speed, and you'll do well in breed-only Gallop and Trot races.

KWPN x Selle - Make it KWPN dominate and beach into Jump. If you breed with high enough genetics and IBS, you'll win some rosettes.

TB x KWPN - TB dominate. Leave Stamina untrained and beach from Stamina into Jump. You'll have a breed-only XC comp monster.

Gypsy x Lippi - Make it Gypsy dominate, leave speed untrained and beach it into Stamina. You'll have a great Reining and Barrel horse for breed-only comps.
