Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

New baby, I'm not sure what to think of him just yet, looks like I have a jumper default smiley :)

I'd say if you crossed with a mustang, you'd get a pretty good all-around western horse.

Cross with a jumping breed like a Selle, KWPN, Shetland, Morgan, Russian Don, or Austrailian pony and you could get a good all-around classical horse.

Or you could improve on her reining skills and cross with a Lippizan or Haflinger.

Anyone have a jumper stallion that's 6900+ GP that they would be willing to let me cover to?
By Retired breeder, 3rd September 2016 21:12:03

Do you need the stallion to be crossbred, or will a purebred to cross with work? I've got a purebred 7,001 GP (100 BLUP) KWPN if you want a covering from him.
By Retired breeder, 3rd September 2016 21:52:41
I have a KWPN mare. I don't really care now as long as its not KWPN.
Best I can do for high Jump, are pure Gypsies...highest is uh...6789 GP, skilling him tonight.

Most of the comps he's in are 600-800 difficulty.

switch to reining and WP, you will get wins a lot easier than xc

About how many comps are still waiting to run for him? I entered 9 I think with 2 of my low health immortals. If you have more left to run, let me know and I can find another horse to use as I couldn't see your horse in anymore comps with the first 2.

He's entered in about thirty comps, but if eight of those run I think he'll be done. Thanks so much for your help- I see your entries in all five of his most recent winsdefault smiley :)

Thanks! He just hit 20 wins default smiley <:o) and I'll soon be able to show the results of my long project! If you have any fillers that can just barely see XC rosettes I might be able to fulfill two goals with that same foal tomorrow...

Awesome!
I've got a couple outdated skillers who can still see XC the 1700 level rosettes, so they should work. Just let me know.

Hello! Would anyone know of or have a 6000gp or higher 100blup Welsh stallion? Or a welsh with just a smidge of gypsy vanner? Im wanting to breed my mare Spear the Sand to a stallion similar to what im looking for, shes a cross of gypsy and welsh. Just looking at coverings all the welsh studs have a lower gp than she does. Any help is appreciated. Thank you! default smiley :)

What's a good cross with TBs? I'm sorry, I'm new to this. Should I aim for breeds with similar skills sets or ones that are strong in areas that TBs are not?

Well it really depends on what you're trying to do.....If you're trying to make a Gallop comp monster, I'd cross with breeds whose top skills are Gallop, Dressage or Speed with high GPs, and really high (6000+) GP TBs......

If you're breeding for an overall Westerner, I'd look up the most-employed skill combinations in western comps and breed the horses accordingly, same concept for an overall Classical horse....

But if you're just looking to get the highest non-purebred GP you can, It doesn't really matter what kinds of horses it has in it (that just affects its skill sets, strengths, etc), basically what you want to do is breed a mare at 70+ blup (though i always start before to get a feel for how the foals will be post-blup) to 70+ blupped high-gp stallions (I use the GP part of the search bar on the coverings page and go for 6000+, if it's a good day I have luck putting in 6500+), and repeat the process with each gen of fillies. I personally pick the best filly I get of a generation (or so far in that gen) that looks the most promising and work just with just her.

Some people also breed for a specific coat color (influenced by the parents' and grandparents' genetics) or breed to maintain a specific cross. Others just breed a breed into a line once to give a certain skill a little extra nudge default smiley :)

It all comes down to a matter of preference really default smiley ^)
