Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

Want a good rosette horse and to get closer to the front of the Prix
I can get into the 200s with Bound for Glory, but would like to get closer.

That last foal has the wrong skill set for Prix or Rosettes of any kind. What competition are you shooting for?

Didn't Bound for Glory have a reining skill set? I remember looking at him, but can't remember the type of cross. If he does have the reining skill set, and you wanted to use him for breeding then I would add breeds to increase stamina, dressage and gallop.

@bibbs so lol for a breed with a similar go or higher GP that the skills for Bound for Glory skill set are not much lower than his if lower at all and stamina, dressage and gallop are higher. Correct?
By Retired breeder, 20th May 2016 20:07:26
@ equestrian I don't plan for this to be a short or easy project am trying to make a good rosette and or Prix horse with good skills all around that if possible I imagine will take lots of practice, learning and failure before I succeed

I finished BLUPing Starling. default smiley :)

I like her; she's got pretty decent skills all around. What do you all think I should cross her with next? Preferably a higher GP breed. (Gypsy Vanner, Thoroughbred, KWPN.)

well.....the problem is you can't make a competitive Prix horse "with good skills all around." It is simply flat out impossible. Race winners on the game are specialists -- there is just no such thing as an all around rosette/Prix horse. The closest thing to that would be the divines which gain skills in all categories, like the Solar or Gem or Season divines. And those you can't enter into Prix.

As to why . . .

You will never make a cross with higher GP than the top horse on the game. So, for example, the top GP as of last night is 6,402.94. To make the very highest GP possible, you'd need to breed that horse with the top horse if the next highest breed. So it would be less than 6402, but for simplicity let's use 6402 as an example of the best GP on a cross you could make.

6402 over all GP means you have 6402 points to spread out over all 6 skills. It does not mean that you would get 6402 GP in every skill. You will need to spread it out.

If your goal is "good skills all around", you'd end up with all 6 skills evenly spaced out at 1067 GP.

This is your problem. A horse with 1067 in all skills is not going to be a big comp winner at ANYTHING. It will always lose to the specialist horses that were bred with specific comps in mind.

So if your goal is Prix and/or rosettes, you'll need to pick a certain type of competition and focus on that specific skillset. default smiley 8-)

Starling is quite nice. It's got a higher dressage and jump GP for a Thoroughbred, while keeping up the speed.

As for the cover, depends what you want to do with the foal. The problem with a Gypsy is that even if you get a top cover, their speed GP is only 550 or so, which will drop the foal's down to about 900, which would kind of ruin the work you did there. Though the speed would be high for a Gypsy. A Thoroughbred cover would decrease the jump you gained. A KWPN cover wouldn't increase a KWPN's stats except for stamina and jumping a bit, as a purebred KWPN has higher GP than Starling

Selle or Tb?
By Retired breeder, 20th May 2016 23:06:39
That is selle or TB mix.
By Retired breeder, 20th May 2016 23:09:29

I have a BLUPed GVxTB stud with pretty decent GP?
By Retired breeder, 20th May 2016 23:26:53
I found a decent Gypsy/TB public covering so I'm going to try that. default smiley :)

This is fun! default smiley *-)

Star Song

Now to BLUP! default smiley :d
Think I'm done with Geranium Lake for the day. She'll eventually surpass her momma on the Shetland speed skill board. Her dam was a Shetland gallop project gone awry, so I think I'll focus on a Shetland jumper whenever I get around to continuing the line

With Journey skill set like it is I was thinking about trying to get a foal with a different skill set without lowering the skills from his skill set too much. Can that be done without dropping any of the skills from his skill set below 800?
By Retired breeder, 21st May 2016 03:50:06
I found a cross I like for breeding to Bound for Glory, but it was a male so I am going to try to create the same kind of cross and hopefully get a filly
By Retired breeder, 21st May 2016 03:51:22

She is looking great and I love the coat and background
By Retired breeder, 21st May 2016 06:25:07
Delyth, good all around skills can also be a matter of opinion. I don't expect that I will be able to get every skill over 1000. If that were ever possible it would probably take me years of hard work to get there. Would be something to be very proud of though default smiley xd
What would be a good breed to cross with a KWPN for good western skills? I know KWPS aren't the best western racers.
