Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

Sephora is just about done. A couple more agings to finish forest rides, and then she's done!!
Thinking of adding in Shetland, but they don't have super high GP... I think...

No, unfortunately their GP is only around the mid 5000s and public covers don't even reach 5000. I'm not sure if any teams offer covers for crosses though?

The first Shetland cross I did took lots of crosses and spreadsheet calculations to get it where I wanted, and that was back in February I think.

Add it Newfoundland or Welsh! Their GP is a little higher and I think both top teams for them offer covers.

(I could be getting the breeds wrong-I *think* those are breeds with around the same skillset)
I'm not getting wins with her... But oh we'll...

You should use fillers to get wins default smiley (y)default smiley ;)default smiley :)

Just a suggestion
Yeah I know. I just don't have any.
The Shetland #1 team has about 5,500ish GP. I asked a member for a cover.

Hey! I asked a question on the gameplay forum, and a player directed me to here.. Is it okay if I ask a few questions or try to learn a thing or two?

I've found KWPNs to be a little more difficult to get wins with due to how competitive the breed is. Selles aren't easy for me either because there are next to no breed only comps for them so you need to enter open ones if you don't want it to take forever. I've gotten a few Selles done with fillers, but because of the strategy I used it was time consuming.default smiley (zzz)

This is why I like to use a rookie schedule. And fillers. Just use your AP farm horses as comp fillers default smiley ;).

I honestly don't know what to ask, now that I think of it, just general tips?

Um...where to start?default smiley (lol)
Do you know what your cross breed project goals are, or have any projects in mind? I find that's the best place to start. If I'm feeling the need for a cross project, I'll ask myself a few things to determine what my goal is:

-Do I want to end up with a specific breed?
-Do I want to win a specific type of competition, or just breed for an all round western or classical horse?
-Do I want my horse ranked on the skills board?
-or do I just want to experiment with a few breeds and see what I end up with? I don't experiment as much because I really like using spreadsheets to determine what GP outputs I'm getting so I can roughly see what GP stats my foal is going to have before it's even born

My number 1 tip though is to *always* breed with 100 blup parents when working on a project. You'll get better foals.

Start an AP farm so you can have lots of Aging Points for breeding.

Pick a goal don't just breed willy nilly. Do you want to top the breed ranking board for a certain skill/breed? Do you want to dominate breed-only comps? Do you want to try for rosettes?

BLUP fillies to breed and use public covers on 100 BLUP stallions, or check with the top 2 teams for the breed you want and see if they offer crossbreeding covers. It never hurts to ask if there isn't a public statement on it.

Breed a test foal when your mare is right at breeding age to make sure it's on the right track.

Keep in mind that cross breeding is NOT profitable. Nor will you win a lot of rosettes or come anywhere near the top 10 in the Grand Prix, even if you do get top covers. We do this for fun and for our own little projects.

Yes, I'd more than likely breed once both horses are fully BLUPPED. I'd really just want an all round good horse, maybe two projects, one both in Western and Classical riding styles, but mostly, I just want my horses to place on the skill board. It's something I need to do, or something I'm obsessed with, but something that I can work up to, something to give me a sense of accomplishment. Usually I just buy whatever horses I fancy, if they win, good, if not, that's not bad either. I am not a competitive player.. So I have never bred or competed to win.. Just something to do.

If by "skills board" you mean you want a horse that will place in the top 10 rankings, then you'll need to buy a skiller gelding from one of the top teams (and skill it properly). Or you'll need to figure out how to blup well (and quickly) and then try to apply to one of the top teams. If you're a solo breeder, a top 10 ranking with a homebred is probably not within reach, mostly because you'll be going up against a team.
By Retired breeder, 19th May 2016 19:59:59
^Really? I've gotten a lot of top ten horses in breed skill boards
By Retired breeder, 19th May 2016 20:02:51
Or, you can try for one of the off-breed skill rankings as a cross-bred, but you'll probably need a top cover. For instance, take Gypsy Vanners -- the purebred's top skill is stamina, and their worst skill is speed. Trot isn't so hot either. So people try and breed crosses that are Gypsy Vanner dominant, and skill those to top the Gypsy Vanner top 10 for speed, or trot, or whatever. That is probably a reasonable goal, but you'll need to be using the highest GP available to you for both your mare and your covers, and it will probably require asking one of the top teams for covers.

I hit enter too soon default smiley xd

I have to agree with Dandy. Sure with the more popular breeds it can be more difficult, but definitely doable.

My cross Hinata made the top board in Selle Dressage the day after I skilled him, and I wasn't even trying for any rankings. (Pic under spoiler)

A lot of my crosses make top boards, both purposefully and on accident. It's just a matter of picking a breed and going for one of the lower skills, then crossing a mare with a high GP for that particular skill with a stallion of the desired breed (with tears, of course), skilling it, and presto!

*Gasp* I see me. O.O
default smiley xd I have no problems getting wins on kwpns. They're so easy they're not even a challenge. I train in Speed/Dressage then comp in low level cross. Then finish training/comps/rides to bold out, beach in jump for rosettes. Then PoCs. What I have problems getting wins on are my Gypsies because of Dauntless. They stomp like...any Gyp. that isn't their own.

Cross-wise, I'm not breeding anything seriously until I retire a bunch of mares, and that could take years since I'm still waiting for folks who want their foals default smiley xd
