Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

Edit by pixiesbite

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

It's 5 I believe that will show. If not 5 it's 6. I always get it confused, but I have 1 mix that's showing 5 and I know it has one or two more breeds in it, so it should be 5

Going to start a project soon with TWs and Arabs, because I'm about to buy a high GP Arab and I have some high GP TWs so I'll BLUP them and see how it goes. default smiley :)

What do you think and what do you think I should throw in the mix with them?

You should add whatever you want to add. We can't tell you/suggest to you what to do with every single horse.

Fine. Since I am new to cross breeding, yes I ask for ideas as you all know about more breeds than I do. Once I do get a suggestion I check the breed out for myself before deciding on what I want to do, but I am perfectly fine doing this on my own and will no longer bother you all.

I'm not saying that you can't ask, and I didn't mean to come off as callous or cold. It was never my intention to upset you and I'm sorry if I did.

I just mean that- Like it's not really your own crossbreeding...thing (project/journey /experiment I'm not really sure what to call it because everyone does things differently) but it's not really yours if you're asking on input for every single step you take, you know? Do crazy experiments, find crosses that succeed and crosses that fail.

You won't really 'know about more breeds' or get truly crossbreeding savvy if we're holding your hand the entire way. So you do you! You'll learn and grow at your own pace, and hey you might figure things out that we haven't discovered yet. Crossbreeding is really everyone doing their own thing, that's what makes it so beautiful and awesome.

Have you thought of doing a UK 'all breed'? Personally I wouldn't know where to go from that cross since I'm more of the Morgan breeder. It really depends on where you want to go from there. I'd probably mix some more Trot and Jump, so either a Noko or Knab. Or you can increase speed with a Paso.

Starry, sorry for the attitude it just been a rough couple of days and wrecking havic on my GAD. Usually not an issue but haven't been this stressed in 4 years and not at my best with it since the one that usually keeps me stress free was part of the stress. Kinda same thing there I guess. Should have figured out how to deal with out having to depend on do one else to keep me calm. default smiley :s

Grab a thick pillow and scream as loud as you want for as long as you want. It helps me sometimes.

It's all right! Stress can be pretty nasty. I hope you're feeling better soon, though!

Thank goodness, Starry. I guess the first thing I need to do is decide what I wanted them to excell at. Can't believe I got cremello twins though.

You've got a nice base for jumping, if you want to go in that direction.

Well I know I want a zbolt to make one a filly. So hopefully I don't have to buy whatever breed I decide to use lol. There doesn't seem to be many breeds with over 6000 GP

Am I correct in thinking that if I breed 50/50 of the same breeds that the foal will take the breed of the site's dam?

I doubt there will be for a minute. 6000+ is still fairly new for us.

If it's the same breed order, it takes the second listed breed of the sire.

Here are my two most recent crossbreeds;

and
http://www.howrse.com/elevage/fiche/?id=48239925

I'm excited that Serenity seems to be an all-around great competitor. Hoping to just breed her over and over to gain roughly equal - but high - skills all around.

Also, never tried crossing with gypsy vanners so thought "hey-ho, why not". Excited to see what the little guy can do.

Hm, that would depend; what do you want the foals to be like? Do you want all-around foals with equal skills, or would you rather a foal that is, say, great at western pleasure (in which case you'll want low trot but very high stamina and dressage). Experiment a little, like Starry97 said. Have a look at the horse breed page so you can see what skills are high and low (typically) for each breed. Best of luck and I'll try to pop back and help some more if I can! default smiley (y)
