Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

Ok, so my mind was blown yesterday with my new foals. Apperently, Foal's will not always take the sire's breed in a 50/50 cross. Both parents were 50% Arab, 50%TB, with Arab as their dominant breed. So in theory, the foals should have been Arab dominant as well, but... they were TB.

Now I have raised a few TB dominant 50/50s as well, and the order of their top 3 skills were:

Gallop
Dressage
Stamina

While Arab dominant 50/50s top 3 skills were in the order of:

Gallop
Stamina
Dressage

Not only did the foals come out as TBs, but they had the skill set of the Arabians! *mind blown*

I think it's that they aren't actually a 50/50 cross. I mean they are in a way because they are only made up of two breeds, but I think in that instance the breed output was determined as if the foals were a even 4 way cross(25/25/25/25) because both parents were half Arabian, half Thoroughbred and so they took the sire's dam's breed.

I could be wrong but I think that's why. In any other actual 50/50 cross then it will always take the sire's breed.

Is that always going to be the output of the foals if I bread the parents again, or is there a chance of getting Arab foals? I was wanting Arab foals because the Mother is #1 in Arabian Gallop, and the father will be #2 when I am finished with his beach rides. So I was hoping to pass on their gens with an even better Arab foal.

These two are my newest, and I'm really happy with them. Twins, one's just aged up fully.

Goddess

Saboteur

Going to breed Goddess to one of my team's Trakes once our GP is higher.

I'm loving their GA/Ray combos as well default smiley (7)

very nice! really love Goddess' coat too.

Erm....default smiley (lol) If you use those same two parents, meaning Templar and Lil' Miss Sunshine, then I would *guess* the foals would always end up a Thoroughbred based from info I've seen about 25/25/25/25 crosses

However, I wonder if you did breed another foal from them, then bred that foal to its sibling, The First Knight, then you might get an Arabian foal, because then the sire's dam would be Lil'Miss Sunshine, an Arabian. I didn't check out their genetics though to see how that would affect your GP though

That was what I was thinking of trying. As for the GP, I should still get the GP gain, while and keep the same skill set, since the foal got the skills of the parents, even thought the breed changed. I would basiclly have the same outcome I was hoping for, it would just skip a generation. At least, that is what I would assume. lol

Thanks for your help! ^^

Ok do you all think it would be worth me spending 25k on lippizan foal to work into my lines?

When you do a 4-way of 25% of each 4 breeds the foal will ALWAYS take the breed listed SECOND on the sire's Genetics Tab. This is true 100% of the time.

The skills & skill GPs will average out of the 4 breeds exactly.

When you breed two horses of equal breeding the foal will usually take the one listed second on the sire's genetics tab, if the mare has the same breed order.

So I'm relatively new to crossbreeding. Should you use a different blup schedule for a gypsy vanner/ thoroughbred crossbreed? Or just use one for the dominant breed?

Thanks!

Your blup schedule depends on the skills, not the breed. Look for one that matches the skill set.

Recently discovered that skills plays absolutely no part in breeding - rather GP does. I feel like such a silly noggin. default smiley <:o)

You'll find quite a lot named "TB blup schedule" or "arabian blup schedule" but really that means they're built around the skillset that arabs have. So really if you can find one that's made for a horse with a similar skillset to yours then in theory it should work default smiley (y)
TB x Gypsy Should be gallop, dressage, stamina skill set. If the gp of both parents are similar. If so, you need a Lippi schedule.

Not COMPLETELY about crossbreeding, but if anyone is bored and wants to join me in tracing some of my horses' bloodlines (or want me to help you trace your horse(s) bloodlines) feel free to PM me. Not trying to advertise, I'm only saying that if you're bored and want to join me, or you're looking for something to do on your own, it's something interesting that I would suggest. Again: This is NOT meant to be an advertisement, just suggesting something interesting (and somewhat crossbreeding related) for people to do, alone, or with friends. default smiley :)
Here is one of my new Twin Fillies from my #1 and #2 gallop ranked Arabian crosses! Very happy how they turned out! ^^

Bred Goddess to a TB cross and got these adorable babies! They're twins, but here's the male:

I have to work on a uni assignment tomorrow, but I might be able to skill them this weekend~
