Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

ugh i've enetered in 90+ its probably good she's not a comp horse, thos sikoa breeding group horses keep beatting my poor little ellie, oh well 4 more comps entered, hopefully i'll get one win out of it, i'm going to need to buy clouds for hermaybe so that i can get more babies out of her, right now it doesn't look like she'll have to many, she's had one but thats a pure arab girl and she's part of my pure projectdefault smiley (lol)default smiley (m)
A big part of getting wins on a horse is being good at picking comps.

I've had great success with lusitano-arabian-friesian crosses. Crossbreeding is a lot of fun, it's definitelv more of a gamble. (:

@Sparky2133 Thanks for the link, but my Mars are currently up to 1121 GP and 55 stars. I'm one generation short of getting a star in all skills. Hopefully it'll help compensate for the massive drop in trot that always occurs when I cross Mars with Standies, Lusis, and Frys.
Fifth; This may be a blonde moment, but I'll ask anyway. Why is there a huge drop in trot when you cross Mars with those Trotters? default smiley *-)

Marwaris' best skill is gallop and worst skill is trot, so when you cross them with horses with high trot the foal's trot GP drops. I believe a foal's skill set is the average of its parents, with a small magin for error? So mathematically it'll make sense.
I need an opinion here. Would this GV cross be good to sell or would he make more money as a stud? I'm not sure how the market is for crosses nowadays. He's 100 BLUP and I don't want to waste him

@sroseys1 the best Mar stud you can get right now is available in public covers. His GP is 1123. TBs have much better public GP so you're better off breeding your GV to one.
By Retired breeder, 27th December 2011 04:49:13
Thanks so much. I think I will do a Mawari first and then a TB second.
sroseys1- I have some tb studs if you need a covering. Pm me if you are interested.

Do share a link to the foals, 8D

Reason #13498 Why Crossbreeding is Better: I'm skilling a purebred Standie who's almost 25YO and her trot wins are in the single digits. If/when I achieve the perfect balance of high speed/dressage/trot using Standies, Paints, and Frys I won't have this problem, default smiley xd

Okay well you said you wanted to see the foal. Well I present Jingle Bells
So what do people think?
By Retired breeder, 27th December 2011 05:09:16
Whoops I messed up on the link sorry: Jingle Bells
By Retired breeder, 27th December 2011 05:11:01
Oh I like her, sroseys1. Is she what you were looking for? And just saying - her skill set will make her formidable in barrel comps.
By Retired breeder, 27th December 2011 05:18:36
I think she will do fine. I am was hoping for a male though. I wanted to be able to breed to my Holistiner mare I think that would have made a nice cross but I guess I didn't lucky enough.
By Retired breeder, 27th December 2011 05:20:19
Well there's no harm in rebreeding to see if you can get a colt the next time. Is your Holsti mare a cross or a purebred, and if she's a purebred is her GP higher than the highest pbulic covers GP?
By Retired breeder, 27th December 2011 05:22:54
She is a cross here she is: Mare I just found out that as long as no one brings out a great Jumping Mawari all of a sudden that Jingle Bells will be the top one! I just have to skill her.
By Retired breeder, 27th December 2011 05:25:54
That's quite an interesting skill set. And yeah, it's not that hard hitting the boards with breeds like Marwaris. Trying to topple the elite Mar crossbreeding group, on the other hand, is quite the challenge...
By Retired breeder, 27th December 2011 05:28:55
Well I am going to make it my goal to try and maybe upset them just a little bit. You know just light a fire under them just to make them realize that they can't sit around and say "Well we are on top and I am sure no one is going to try to get us." You get lazy you start to loose.
