Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

Guanaco - if you want the foal to have great speed choose a paint x mustang.
By Retired breeder, 30th May 2010 20:17:37
rancher, I would do paints.
By Retired breeder, 30th May 2010 20:19:55
I haven't really decided anything except I'd like it to be Mustang dominent default smiley (lol)

But the hunter x is very nice! default smiley (y)

Okay, thanks!

I like my Friesian/Paint crosses. Trotting ends up low but I'm not real interested in trot percent at the moment. But I like the stats on one of my half-Friesian fillies: her sire is Raven Horses' half-Shetland, half-Paint stallion.

Okay, four wins and I just put him in a few more comps. What should I do to help him get wins faster? What kind of training/rides?

What would be a good breed to cross a PSH too? I'm looking to breed my foundie PSH mare, and I've already bred her to 351.2 PSH foundies, and a 351.2 QH. Any cross ideas?

I think I want to try some cross breeding, but I'm not totally sure what to do. I know I want to make Arabians my dominate tho. What should I cross with them?
By Retired breeder, 31st May 2010 00:39:50
I just started today but I have done howrse before. But anyway, I started breeding Chincos but am interested in breeding crosses too. I was wondering if Chinco x Thourghbreds would be a good mix?
By Retired breeder, 31st May 2010 00:46:04
I'd like to start cross-breeding as well, but I do not know what breeds, or what I'd like them to excel in. All I know is that I want it half and half, not all this crazy 75% 25% stuff.

Thanks for any advice!
By Retired breeder, 31st May 2010 00:49:03
Ok I am currently thinking about starting my own line of crossbreeds but I have a question:

Would you recommend starting out with a pair of horses with the highest # of stars & GP for that breed or starting out with foundation horses?

Also any more advice and tips are welcome and much appreciated, please feel free to pm me with any.

Thanks & Happy Howrsing;

WC,

I don't really know much about crossbreeding, but I would start with a high * and high GP, just to see what happens.

Sincerely,

Wow! I love seeing so many future crossbreeders in here! Hopefully is helps youll out. If I am looking to breed a 50/50 cross then I always get the highest GP I can find for the parents. I try and use the lower GP breed(one that doesn't get as high starred) a the father. This makes the baby that breed but with higher than usual GP from the mom. It makes hitting the rankings easier and an all around better cross. I anyone has any otherquestions then feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer.default smiley (a)

Since IHs and Friesians are the best dressage horses, what would happen if you combined them? Would they have, like, double dressage?
By Retired breeder, 31st May 2010 02:44:23
Not double but really high. I have seen lots of frie/IH crosses with over 300 dressage.
By Retired breeder, 31st May 2010 02:46:46
Oh wow, many questions! Glad to see more people taking interest in cross breeding. I agree with what Sunny said about using a breed that doesn't have many stars yet as the father for reasons of an elite horse or making money.

enghlish- Well, Angle arabs seem to be popular, as are the Irish Arabs. You can get an Irish hunter or Thoroughbred mare, then cross them with an Arab to get yourself a first generation cross arab. Second generation can be tricky as far as keeping the Arab dominant goes, but PM me to learn more about that if you want. On a side note, I've got an Arab/Tb cross filly with 154 IBS for sale if you want to use her for a start.

kriMorgen- Yeah, those are a good mix. Their skills are similar, the differnce is that Chincos are speed dominant while Tbs are gallop dominant. I'd go for it. =) I recently made a Chinco/Tb/Paint cross, and the foal came out well because the skills fit pretty well.

bailee- Well, it really does kind of depend on some type of preference and/or goal. Do you want to just breed foals to sell for money? Do you just want to experiment with totally opposite horse crossing, or with similar horses? What are your favorite breeds? Try starting with those.

Wild Cat- I would say get the highest starred and GP horses that you can for a good line. Then again, if you want to do NIB, do the foundation.

Feel free to PM me, I'd love to chat and continue giving advice and answering questions. ^^

I've done some Connemara x Irish Hunter crosses, the best of the Irish! They are great competition horses. If you look on my first page of other horses, you can see !¤Irish Diamond, she's an example of that cross. I have a few for sale if anyone is interested. ^_^
By Retired breeder, 31st May 2010 03:16:39
I plan to make a dressage monster for my EC. The dominate I plan to be a irish hunter...but is that really smart?? Lol. I don't know, I'll figure it out!

Yeah, I got it and have replied. Thanks. =) And I don't see why having the Irish dressage dominant would be a back idea, lol. The only thin for me would be that I don't like the new Irish coat.. lol. But that's just me.
