The NIB FAQ:

What is a NIB horse?
A NIB horse is a horse that is not inbred; every horse in its pedigree appears only once (with the exception of Ouranos and Gaia). Horses with "Horse Disappeared" in their pedigree are generally not accepted by NIB breeders unless the horses in question were bought before the horses disappeared and have verifiable pedigrees.

Are there green star NIB horses?
These horses have lower GP than green stars and other top horses, as not inbreeding limits the breeding availability and is slower to progress than breeding brothers to sisters and so forth.
**Misabel edit: The first Green star NIB horse was created on February 21, 2011 - a 6th generation Connemara pony with a star in stamina. He was the end result of a lot of hard work and effort, but now that some dedicated breeders have shown it can be done, we all have something to shoot for!

Are NIB horses considered better than green stars or inbred horses?
Goodness, no! Nobody here is attempting to make that claim. Just like the Zero GP horses, these players choose to play the game in their own challenging way.

How can I get involved with NIB breeding?
It's simple! Start by purchasing a few foundation horses, or horses whose pedigrees can be tracked down and verified as non-inbred. Then carefully breed them to create foals with good GP's and skills that are not inbred!

*bangs head against wall repeatedly*

The auction I lost earlier today for a foundation Paint, perfectly trained in dressage and speed already with extra bonuses of Eolus' Wind and Golden Spurs... they HAVENED.

OH, Jeteska, that's AWFUL!!! Why, oh, why would someone do that? default smiley (o)

One of my auction hopefuls has been pulled -- not been sold privately or reserved so who knows?....only two left now...one's a 5 day-er that someone else seems to desperately want...not sure I have the heart to continue...default smiley :(

Such a love-hate thing with these public auctions...default smiley xd

PS. I love eavesdropping on the conversations between Forest and Rowen....default smiley :p

*looks at her neglected foundies*
Really, I should start working them soon default smiley xd
By Retired breeder, 21st January 2010 13:04:52
Skriblerier....default smiley (lol)....I just bought two that are starting to collect dust already, no intentions of doing anything with them at all...there's a long line-up for time and funds in the NIB barn....default smiley ;)
By Retired breeder, 21st January 2010 13:14:11
default smiley (lol) I have 40 foundies staring at me with accusing eyes default smiley xd
I was thinking, since I bought so many in winter, that when spring came, I'd get to game them all and get done with that before training. But as soon as spring came.... errr default smiley *-)
From natures side I'm a lazy person default smiley :p
FYI There is an untouched foundy paint in the auctions for another 45 minutes.

Hm... I just wonder, when the dreaded "Horse Disappeared" shows in the line, does that mean the horse is dead, safe havened or the owner has just quit and the horses are non-existing?
By Retired breeder, 21st January 2010 14:07:47
I think it's when the owner has quit without doing any of the dead/safe haven/heaven things and Howrse does a clear-out.....the veterans will have a better answer, I'm sure...default smiley (lol)

I saw some otherwise wonderful NIB-types in the sales with the dreaded H.D....sad, really, 'cos you just KNEW they were NIBs.....

*sigh*

Before I knew about the H.D. I bought a 1st gen off someone who wasn't One of Us (default smiley (lol)) and now can't decide what to do with the poor creature. I'm certainly comfortable buying horses/using studs from Known NIBers....but the general populace makes me nervous with its habits of coming and going....
By Retired breeder, 21st January 2010 14:16:39
Ugh there should be a automatic thing that the game put the players horses out in the auctions when they quit. Sad to see so many foundies gone, I saw one with 5 - 6 foundies here the other day, the next day said person deleted the account and the horses were gone (the player had a 351.20 GP 100 BLUP Morgan foundie stallion that I drooled all over default smiley (lol) Too bad he too disappeared.)

Yeah I've seen them too, actually I think I have a no-bred-by-me 1st Gen around in my barn, waiting for me to work with it... I should hurry up and take a screenshot of its pedigree in case mother/father disappear.

Yeah thankfully known NIBers are safe as we know they will (most times) sell their horses to other NIBers so the lines won't be destroyed.

The howrse world is harsh default smiley (lol)

If anyone is breeding NIB Foundation paints please take a look at Chrome page and then contact me..they messaged me and said they are an inactive player and want their paints going to a good place...they told me to email them if someone is interested..default smiley :)
By Retired breeder, 21st January 2010 17:58:26
Sort of NIB related as it is about foundies...

Does anyone know how many Foundation unicorns of each breed were released in the original unicorn quizzes (where unis were first introduced to the game)?
Skriblerier,
HD lines mean the player is completely gone. Wild you had it right default smiley (y)

*sigh* Must go pull teeth to get my fully bolded boys last two wins default smiley xd He finished up his comps without the last two....still not bad at 10yrs though default smiley :d

I believe I have a few more than 40 staring at me in accusation of neglect.....the unis scare me the most....they have horns to come after me with default smiley xd

Woohoo, I just bought a foundie mare for less then 700e default smiley (lol) *happydance* My poor NIBs are enjoying the spring, I don't have the time to work them these days.. default smiley :$
Yes, it does get difficult finding the time for all of them. I work them in shifts to help me out. Here is what I do:

Work the youngest 6
Work the very middle 3
Work the oldest 6-8

When I say the very middle, I count how many horses I have in the herd then I go to the very middle number and work the three right in there. So far it has helped get a few going. This is only with my arabians though and doesn't include the foals or 100 BLUPs. My blup'd horses just sit and look pretty for me default smiley :-))

Thanks FQ, according to a response I got in Gameplay there were 6 unis of every breed that were released at that time - I did come across one dead arabian uni foundation in a uni's family history, such a shame to see one lost to the game.

This makes me PSH pair much much rarer than I thought! I might try to track down the other four PHS unicorn foundies to see where they are...
No problem IC default smiley ^), I believe Sionnach owns at least 2 of the foundie arab unis. She has my original.

That's a good method Forest Queen default smiley (y) I've tried to focus on my foundies and have no problem working them while they're boarded. Once the board is up, I cannot get myself to go look for a new EC.. Today I went to the auctions instead, bid on a few reserved ones (a pricey hobby may I add default smiley (lol) ) though I planned to save up some equus (f)
