I have bred a lot of Appaloosa x Thoroughbred recently but taking a bit of a break and I’ve done some lovely Highland Pony crosses;

Glenbarr - 31029.74 GP - Arabian x Highland

Skye - 31170.51 GP - Criollo x Highland

I may skill up Skye first!

recently had a good time crossbreeding thoroughbred, arabian horse, selle francais and even (as the cherry on top) mustang for high gp skillers.
It was quiet fun.default smiley (l)

Love my first cross breed, she’s a little dapple gray tobaiano. The sire is my Dun Overo. Cades iron. The dam my black quarter horse. Kittys claws. I’m honestly super excited to see where she starts winning after her training. default smiley :d

Does anyone know how a crossbred foal's breed is determined if parents are 5-way crosses of different breeds? Thanks in advance!

4 ways of even percentages (like all 25%s) take the sire's 2nd listed so long as both parents have all different breeds between them. A 5 way might do the same if the percentages are the same, but with that many, it's possible a hidden decimal could push one breed's percentage higher than the others.

I bred a test foal that took the dam's 1st listed breed

5 way Marwari foal
Sire is 20% each of
Akhal-Teke
Shetland
Irish Hunter
Trakehner
Hanoverian

Dam is 20% each
Marwari
Peruvian Paso
Chincoteague Pony
Arabian Horse
Mustang

I got on preprod so I could bolt the parents, and with them flipflopped, the foal again took the new dam's (the sire for the first test) first listed breed, which is Akhal Teke.

The parents are actually 3rd or 4th gen 5 ways, so I went back a bit to see how the first generation's (their parents were 4 ways) foal turned out.
Sire
Dam
2019 Foal is a Mustang, which is the dam's first listed breed.
I bred a new foal from this pair today and that one is also a Mustang.

So I'd say that if the percentages are even (all 20%s) , it takes the dam's first listed breed

Thank you for testing it! I'm working on an All Breeds project right now and though I'm a ways out from the last horse, I want to plan ahead to get a riding horse
