Yes. I did a cross about a month back that had a Shetland sire and Selle dam. They have the same skill set, but Selles have a much higher gp. Because the foal takes the breed of the father in a 50/50 cross, the foal showed as a Shetland and had (at that time) the top max. skills for that breed. In fact, for several breeds on this game the top horse is usually a crossbred of some sort. Here's a link to my baby if you're curious. He's still high in the rankings.

Yes. The foal's GP is roughly the average of the parents, so so long as the math lets you do it (can't think of a better way to say that), being a cross bred will not restrict your GP gain. For an additional example, I've bred two different crosses whose top 3 skills are the opposite of their purebred counterparts. I have a Haflinger cross whose top 3 skills are speed, trot and jump, instead of a purebred Haflinger's stamina, dressage and gallop.

So for an example, if I wanted to breed a TB with another horse in Gallop, and focus solely on the Gallop skill in genetics, could I eventually go higher than current TB Gallop skills even though they are the top breed in Gallop?

You could, yes.

If you were to breed the top TB (4143 gallop GP) to the 2nd best gallop breed's GP, which looks to be Marwari with a GP of 4114, the foal's gallop would be about 4128, which is still about 20 points behind the top TB. Because you're working with top GP, your GP gain per generation is quite small, so it'd take lots of generations to catch up to the top teams, who produce multiple generations themselves each day.

Is it possible to use backbreeding when working with crossbreeds? Im thinking if the horses are a 50/50 mix of the two same breeds, and i blup/breed them like i would with a line of purebreeds. Would backbreeding mess with their skillset?

Foals GP is roughly the average of the parents', so backbreeding alone won't hurt the skill set you've established. I've not done a project like this myself, but I've seen other crossbreeders use the backbreeding method for project lines
Depending on your cross, you may want to produce siblings to establish your "foundation" line, breed them, and then backbreed from there.

They are Friesian dominant 50/50 Fri x KWPN. crosses. I am working on a line of them right now. They excel in low-level cross country competitions. I am trying to convince my brothers on here to join me in breeding them but they can't even be bothered to get past the tutorial before they play one of their video games.

What is a good combination for a cross country horse that does not contain any Gypsy Vanner?

Honestly I do not remember. I just had a few days in a row the same few horses kept beating me and it caught my eye (legit they were the better horses and it wasn't at all malicious or even remotely stomping, just one of those things).

I messaged the breeder about the breed combination because it was so darn interesting, nothing I'd ever thought of. They were very nice but they said it was a team they were on and they weren't comfortable giving advice. Which is totally fair.

So much cleaner than my crosses. I might eventually get around to fidgeting with my own percentages.

I have been mostly using Lusitanos for dressage, but I do want to cross breed a bit more than I have been. Any specific breeds I could use, or really any tips?

Really that depends on what you want the horse for? Are you just looking for good dressage crosses, or are you meaning that you're wanting to try something besides Lusitanos?

I haven't been here in forever. I just started back crossbreeding on my US account, but it's been like two years since I've done crossbreeding on this server. So many changes in stats since then, I'm not sure what I want to try out.

What crosses with a Selle have been the best for rosettes in comps?

KWPNs, for sure. I make my KWPN x Selle crosses KWPN dominant, because that breed has lots of breed only rosette comps. The higher jump and speed genetics brought by the Selle will far outweigh the speed and jump genetics of a purebred KWPN.
