I'm good with sticking to taking over trot and gallop haha. I just bought a 7626 GP Gypsy (pretty cheaply I might add), so I'll see what I can breed when he's blupped and bolted.

o.0 Actually, what the Nez Perce had were called Foundation Appaloosas Which are true Appaloosas (ie, no QH). They go back to a Mongolian Spotted War Pony bred by the Huns. They still exist today. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mongolian_horse

Yes, but the Nez Perce is trying to go back to breeding to revive their horse culture and have created the Nez Perce Horses which is a Teke crossed with Appy

We're talking about the "Nez Perce Horse" here, which -is- derived from anicent "foundation Appaloosa" and designed to re-vitalize the original breed type. Their from the same branch as the Mongolian Spotted War Pony. So you're not wrong, but neither are we.

Much nerdiness up in here:

The Nez Perce Horse is an App x Akhal-Teke cross that is relatively new (early 1990's) designed to re-establish the horse culture of the Nez Perce and their Foundation Appaloosa type. They use Wallowa herd Appaloosas for this, which are closest to the original Ma'amin Appaloosa type.

Many of the other, more "modern" Appaloosas have considerable QH, TB, Arabian influence. These other breeds were worked with a desire to produce show-ring quality horses with loud color, heavy muscling, and refinement. Over time, they have become a much different beast than the original type.

The Nez Perce instead bred their Appaloosas for endurance, thrift, toughness and courage. Annnnnnd genetic and historical research indicate that the foundation stock of the Appaloosa/Ma'amin likely originated from stock left behind by Russian fur traders who had an early presences in the Pacific Northwest

These Eurasian horses are derived from the famous “Heavenly Horses” of Ghengis Khan (Mongolian ), and traceable back to the Akhal Teke, a breed kept pure in Turkmenistan for over 2,000 years.
