RoseBlood,
I have one, you can see him in my other horses tab, name is Dakota, but you should be able to find a better one in public covers, I know I did.

By the way, were you one of the people who wanted a cover from Varon? I know there were 2 people who did but I can't remember which page to find the names of the people who asked. Any way, who ever it was just send me a pm letting me know because I will be bolting him sometime this week and using him for a brood mare so the covers will need to go out in the next few days.

Zepharo-Hehe, it's fine. ^^ I'm hoping I can produce one soon anyways. Yes, I was one of them. I noticed he was blupd, but I'm still thinking about what mare I'd want covered from him. I took a second look at him and saw that he was 75:25. I thought he was 50:50, so it's made me rethink. I can't think of any cross mares of mine that I want to cross him to. Do you think 50/50 Tb/Qh or Tb/Paint mares would be good mares to cross him with?

I just (in-)bred my second generation Aztecas (I didn't know Equidow had Aztecas when I started them on here...). I'm pretty satisfied with them, but I'm curious because all of the second generation 50/50 mixes still came out as Purebred Spanish Horses. I thought that most of the time they would come out as the "hidden" breed?

Here's one of each twin set:

Any ideas why they came out as PSH instead of Quarter horses?

Thanks for the crossbreeding discussion, zepharo!

Nice horses. You guys post a lot. I don't come on for 2 days and you add like 12 pages. How many posts is that? 240 I think?
By Retired breeder, 26th April 2010 03:07:37
GeekGirl, I believe the foal ends up being whatever breed the stallion is (at least in 50/50 crosses).

Kalista Moonwolf:

That's what I thought, too! Because of this one: WieldRedSword. And if you look at the family tree those 2nd generation 50/50 crosses came out as the "hidden" breed!

I'm so confused! I mean, I'll take it, because I like the PSH form better, but I'm still confused...
"hidden"? If you mean recessive than you must be swapping dominant breeds here and there? here are some examples:

100 TB x 100 Arab=50/50 TB dominant
100 Arabx 100 TB= 50/50 Arab Dominant
50/50 Arab x 50/50 TB dominant(say the result from the above breedings)=50/50 TB Dominant
50/50TB x 50/50 Arab dominant=50/50 Arab dominant

50/50 crosses breeding to "opposites" of the same kind of breeding will result in the maternal grandsire (dam's sire) deciding the dominant 'gene'. I believe this is also the same if you breed two 50/50 crosses of completely different breeds together creating a 25/25/25 dominant in whatever the dam was.

That is my understanding of the "simple" crosses.

My current toy while I await one of my BP's to train one of our colts-pix sold him to me *ages* ago and it took me until now to start him default smiley xd

ForestQueen: These are two examples that had the same situation and different results.

These are two foals that I inbred from two sets of twins, so they have the exact set of parents.

WieldRedSword: Both parents were Mustang/PSH (Mustang showing, PSH Hidden) 50/50 twins. WieldRedSword came out as PSH despite both parents being equal across the board 50/50 crosses.

But with Beatriz (and her twin): Both parents were PSH/QH (PSH showing, QH hidden) 50/50 twins. Beatriz came out as PSH, instead of doing the same thing that WieldRedSword did and coming out as the "hidden" breed.

I was told when WieldRedSword came around that that happens most of the time. But both sets of my Azteca twins came out as PSH. I'm just curious about it, that's all.

Maybe PSH is a dominant breed, or something...*shrug*

Correction:

Beatriz did the *opposite* as WieldRedSword and *didn't* come out as the "hidden" breed. Darn typing fingers...default smiley (n)
Hmmm....If you'd be able to PM me the links so I can take a peek when I have a chance. I might be able to see what's going on for you. I'd need both links so I can put them up on 2 pages if you would default smiley :)

Any time SDS default smiley (y)

Forest Queen: I'm not upset about it, just confused. They seem to be the exact same situation.

I'll PM you the links, but here they are if anyone else wants to take a look:

Beatriz' Family Tree

WieldRedSword's Family Tree

*shrug* I just thought it was curious, that's all.
Oh I'm curious as well.....curiosity killed the cat =^_^= good thing I'm not one hahaha

Off to look and maybe, just maybe get it sorted default smiley :p

I took a screencap of Beatriz' family tree, just in case. I've heard of (though it was a while ago) foals sometimes changing breeds after the roll-over, and I want proof in case she (and her sibs!) are suddenly QHs tomorrow!

Just remember: Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back!
How very, very, *very* strange! It's just a freak foaling me thinks. All parents and foal are 50/50 and no 'flipping' genetics anywhere....so weird....haha

Beatriz was born to the proper genetics but Red should have come out Mustang......so weird....

Wait, Beatriz was the proper breeding? Because I thought WieldRedSword was. If you look at my Origins IB, those are the ones that I inbred, with the same Mustang/PSH cross parents. They all came out as PSH, so I thought that was the norm?

And when True Rain and Rainy Day were born, I was told it was normal for them to switch?
Yes, Beatriz was right. What I mean by recessive is the 'maternal' side. Usually whatever the dam is is what the foal will be with most 50/50 25/25/25/25's and some other crosses with careful breeding. The mare is usually determined by what her sire is thus you can usually decide what a foal of 50/50 or 25/25/25/25 cross will be by looking at the maternal grandsire.

Red is supposed to be mustang as his dam and maternal grandsire are both mustang.....both parents are 50/50 dominant mustang, he should have been mustang. I've never seen that kind of foaling before.....
