I'm trying to get high gallop and dressage from them, while maintaining the speed... would thoroughbred/quarter horse be a good cross for that? Or do I need to tweek it a bit and throw in a irish hunter also??
By Retired breeder, 4th April 2010 16:39:58
I bred my foundie Arab to a IH and got an 8* foal. It has, I believe, 4 stars in stamina, 3 in dressage, and one in gallop.

So now I need to take care of the jumping, speed, and trot. Is there a horse that excels in at least 2 of those areas? Even all 3, possibly?
By Retired breeder, 4th April 2010 16:41:44
I think that the freisian or the standy excels in trot and maybe speed also...
By Retired breeder, 4th April 2010 16:42:28
Sounds pretty good to me, you could always add in a hunter if you feel you need to default smiley :)

Here is the link to her...

My Darkest Surprise- 8*

I'll check. I know the Freisian is a big trotter, but I want to see others, too... default smiley *-)

Friesians have low speed though, so it'd bring that down..

Also I'm going to try irish hunter/paint horse. For a horse with high dressage, stamina and speed. Not really focusing on any thing like gallop, trot, or jumping for comps. Just for a horse with high skills in the top three skills... hopefully!! default smiley (y)

I've bred a couple of Shetland/Arabians for the shetland stamina board, the two with the 'Feelin Blue Shetland' affix were bred by me on my old account default smiley :)
I'm working on a morgan-paint cross mare called Chicxulub. She should be on the morgan speed table after the update default smiley (m)

How would you get a horse that excels in crosscountry and jumping? would an Arabian/Irish Hunter be good?
Shetland-Arabian would be wonderful for the shetland stamina table! Sounds like great fun!

default smiley (lol) chickentender, I'll keep a look out for them.. default smiley :)
By Retired breeder, 4th April 2010 17:12:35
chickentender,
My Quarter/Paint crosses do pretty good in dressage. Depending on which cycle it is in, dressage changes between 2nd and 3rd skill. Not bad but does not compare to the Hunters or Arabs for dressage but if you add in a high dressage breed it tends to take away from speed and gallop.

Thanks zepharo.
It's better to get good advice from people, than to learn it the hard way.. I'll remember that. *Adds to breeder's book* But I really do have a Notepad page that has different notes/advice given to me. It's really a good thing to have, I suggest you guys get one it's helpful. Because on howrse things *can* get deleted... even if not meant to!!!

Lol thanks Guanaco!! default smiley (y)
