Yeah. You have to either have doubles, or buy one specifically for customizing. I can't even bring myself to put a little mod podge on their chipped hooves!
By Retired breeder, 26th September 2015 23:49:28
Alright so for tormenta I would do the safari mustang, the one leaning on the rock I'd do the 2015 paint stallion, and the rearing one, I leave you to guess default smiley (lol)
I went to hobby lobby today but didn't buy anything and I fount a few safari ltd. models and they were $10.99 EACH! *slowly puts horse down and runs away*

OMG?!!! Seriously?! At micheals they're $6.99, and normally we have coupons for 40% off, sometimes another 15% from my mom teachers discount. That is REALLY sad!

That's crazy at TSC they are priced by color and they go up to $9.00.
By Retired breeder, 27th September 2015 21:10:58
Whew! Not cheap!! I saw this website that was like, best prices! And I looked, 14.99, in euros.

Well, use acrylic paint or pastels.
Watercolors look like they'll work for shading but they don't.
Be careful making dapples- cotton swab things make giant dapple for Schleich, and they make 3D blobs, so maybe try a toothpick?
You can try watering down the acrylics, but I find just thin coats are better, except for the coat that you make black socks on- if you do watered down color all over, then the black socks will blend into that a little, but try using a sponge, too.
If you use a VERY slightly gray/white or cream/white, it'll look better than pure white. If you don't have one, you can try white with a touch of cream or gray. Cream would likely be better.
If you don't have the exact color you want, use reds, browns, oranges, yellows, blacks, and grays to make a color.

Make sure you don't glob paint onto detailed part like the mane and tail.
If you like, oil pastels can be used for awesome shading by rubbing them on a pallet, then scrubbing a hard brush that you don't care about into the color, then wipe it on. You may have to repeat that several times.
For fleabites or teeny tiny appy markings, use a really shoved-apart crayola brush (those plastic bristled black and colored ones) or use a normal brush with a little bit of paint, hold kinda far away but not so far as to get it all over the table, then give the end of the brush a long flick. It should make speckles!
For eyes, use a toothpick for a tiny horse, or the finest tip brush you have, then do black. Then do color insie of that if you're adventurous, then another smaller black dot.
For finishing, I use mod podge, but don't use that for chalk pastels because the would smear them.
When mod podging over oil pastels, go lightly on the first coat. If you feel like to you need more, just do a second coat more normally because the oil pastel should be sealed in well enough.
Use gloss mod podge or clear nail polish overtop of hooves, eyes, and maybe even the mane and tail if you want them SUPER silky.
Finishing is NOT totally necessary, but if you don't, it has a weird texture that I personally don't like, and you have to be a little more careful not to chip them or rub them on other horses.
That's all I have for now! Hope I helped!

Thanks for the help!!

I got 4 new schleich models last week, I got the Curly family and Ardennes.
I was going to buy the advent calendar but it was really epensive. A$70! I just want the horses in itdefault smiley xd

My local Schleich supplier has put the price for schleich up. A normal horse (paint stallion for example ) was $12 and is now $14. The bigger ones are still the same price at around $16. A foal or pony was $8 and is now $9.40

I will go count how many schlich I have (including farm animals and zebras)

That is the same with me! Every shop that I have been to that sells schleich has raised their prices, it's so annoying. I did my calculations, and to buy the 30 schleich horses I don't have and are not retired would cost me AU$349 where as before it would have cost me around AU$240! It's crazy!!
It is a crazy amount of money when you think about it! I was going to buy an advent calendar but it was AU$70!!
Luckily my local supplier had a everything you choose sale so I got 50% of one horse , 30% of two horses and 25% of another would have coat me something like $47 but I got about $17 off

Lol. I got the ardennas stallion and foal, the curly mare and foal for $30.40 which like I said would have cost me about $47 normally

I might get to go to micheals! My sis needs to go for parade supplies... Which safaris should I get? default smiley (lol) I have an unspoken limit of 3 at a time so my parents don't freak out.... I'm thinking maybe the three with which I could make the revealed legendaries: mustang mare, zebra, and Arab mare. But I don't know!!!

Just some wool wrapped around their face to look like one.
It's fun making harnesses for them.
