Tomorrow I'm going to build a bunch of barns and such for my many many Schleichs. Anything mandatory for a Schleich horse to live that I should build tomorrow?
By Retired breeder, 21st February 2015 02:28:59
Awesome! Well, if you are building a stall, make sure that they have water and food bins.
If you are doing a paddock, try making fences shelter, and put the horse out with a few other horses. If you can do a stall with dutch doors and run pen, that always works the best.
By Retired breeder, 21st February 2015 02:30:51
Also make large bins for the horses to eat. I use real grains for my horses, like steel cut oats, rice, and lentils from the grocery store. Also, you can print out some pictures of horse pellet bags and fold to look like a bag. Making a feed room is super fun to! Sorry about all of the suggestions, just really excited to make some!

Look up "Spillers" they have perfect pictures for making feed bags. I have some fencing, will try to make a lean to. Don't think I can really nice box stalls, quite yet. I have over 50 horses to house. I shall try for all your other suggestions. Thanks!

Ya!I use spiller feed bags too! I leave some space on my piece of paper so that I can cute and glue to make it 3d!
By Retired breeder, 21st February 2015 02:35:50
I can use my Breyer feed instead of making an all new feed system, it's really the same anyways.
By Retired breeder, 21st February 2015 02:38:29
Ya, does classic breyer accerssories work for schleich? I have heard that some does.
By Retired breeder, 21st February 2015 02:42:22
You can make jolly balls, salt licks, and such from airdry clay.

Make sure your foals and mares all have big stalls

Try using either super thin pieces of yellow/tan paper ripped up, or yellow/tan yarn as bedding. Or pet bedding (hamster, etc.)

Try to have halters for all horses and some lead ropes. I like to use rubber bands. You can buy like 300 for a couple dollars and you have plenty halters!

Make sure all your stalls have chains/doors!

Don't put the horses in stalls that are too small, it's better to house them slowly yet well!

That's all my ideas for now. I need to upgrade my barn. I'd like to make a hayloft, more stalls, an arena, and a tack room!
By Retired breeder, 21st February 2015 02:48:05
Ya, getting an arena soon. I used all of my stables and I have so many! I still have horses stacked away cause I just can't fit them! I put my mare in a really large pasture, I have 40 mare and foals, so it is a little to small for all of them! I have a trough from myfroggystuff, in there, along with a schliech outdoor hut thingy that looks like paddock shelter, diorama flowers, pond and grass, and a schleich tree in the middle! Try to keep all of your things on tables, cause it looks kinda messy on the ground, no offense to anyone who does that!

I have the awesome st stuff for hay!!!! It's green crunchy paper and I think it's for Easter baskets.
Some Classic stuff works, most are too big.
By Retired breeder, 21st February 2015 02:52:54
Cute! I use timothy hay, cause I have bunnys, so I have a whole bale of it{long story short, did not know the size! Great, I have heard that the foal tack from traditionals works really well.
By Retired breeder, 21st February 2015 02:53:05
I used to use real horse bedding, but then the cat started peeing in it (GROSS!!!! Still love cats though).
By Retired breeder, 21st February 2015 02:54:38

Ya one has to throw it out.
By Retired breeder, 21st February 2015 02:57:29
Ew! Good thing I don't have a cat! Except my turtle might bury himself into it, I made him a halter! He is so funny! I put him in a stall and act like he is a horse! Um, I am so bad at making tack, not really, just use hot glue and so that you can trim the edges easily to make it clean looking.
