What is a NIB horse?
A NIB horse is a horse that is not inbred; every horse in its pedigree appears only once (with the exception of Ouranos and Gaia). Horses with "Horse Disappeared" in their pedigree are generally not accepted by NIB breeders unless the horses in question were bought before the horses disappeared and have verifiable pedigrees.

Are there green star NIB horses?
These horses have lower GP than green stars and other top horses, as not inbreeding limits the breeding availability and is slower to progress than breeding brothers to sisters and so forth.
**Misabel edit: The first Green star NIB horse was created on February 21, 2011 - a 6th generation Connemara pony with a star in stamina. He was the end result of a lot of hard work and effort, but now that some dedicated breeders have shown it can be done, we all have something to shoot for!

Are NIB horses considered better than green stars or inbred horses?
Goodness, no! Nobody here is attempting to make that claim. Just like the Zero GP horses, these players choose to play the game in their own challenging way.

How can I get involved with NIB breeding?
It's simple! Start by purchasing a few foundation horses, or horses whose pedigrees can be tracked down and verified as non-inbred. Then carefully breed them to create foals with good GP's and skills that are not inbred!

The best way I can explain it is in more of a genetics/pedigree term, so hopefully this makes sense:

Your P1 generation is going to be your parental generation. These horses have Ouranos and Gaia as their parents. These are going to be your 350.00 GP horses. You then breed from there.
Your F1 generation are the offspring of your P1 generation horses. So lets say you have 2 breeding pairs in your P1 and they breed once, you will have 2 horses in your F1 generation.
Those F1 offspring would then breed to create one F2 horse.
The way NIB breeding works is that you can follow the family tree of one horse back to Ouranos and Gaia and never see the same horse appear more than once.
Ideally, you have as many breeding pairs in your P1 generation so that you can breed more subsequent generations.
A lot of times, finding any horses past the P1 generation in sales is extremely difficult unless you get them directly from a NIB breeder, because sifting through a horses family tree can be really time consuming.

Wanting to get into NIB Hanoverians, but finding horses is a pain. Working slowly, have a small herd, but am excited to see where this goes. I originally started to spread myself too thin with wanting to do NIB unicorns and NIB donkeys, maybe one day but right now I think I'll just focus on my Hanos.

I have long given up on my search for finding foundations. I definitely think there needs to be some sort of marker in the sales for them. Meanwhile, I did a search, I have somewhere in the region of 1,000 of them.

I've kept all my 350GP foundations and lines bred up from foundation away from the rolling gain foundations. I just don't find it any fun any more.

Breedings with OGs and RGs (old and new/ rolling gain foundations) is totally user preference. That said, I think must of us keep them pretty much separate, as it is easier to keep GP's closer together. Any of your rankings would also fall under the new GPs on the ranking list if they are combined. I am actually slowly starting up a new project which will combine the two, so hoping to report back on it soon.

Are you breeding OG or RG? I don't mix my lines because outside of genetic diversity, the OG would only bring down the GP of RG lines. You would be competing against the RG players by mixing and it would hinder your GP gains. If there's anything I can do to help, let me know default smiley :) I've been doing NIB OG Hanos since the game came out.

Thanks for the advice! I don't know how much I would be trying to be competitive, just trying to start. I just kinda want to work on NIB and start setting goals. Maybe I'll have a couple lines as I have horses from both OG and RG.

I am a little confused was the change from OG to RG slow? I have a a horse that is the child of foundation horses, but they were only like 2000 GP which is a pretty large disparity from either side, OG or RG. She was born in 2016. For reference I have a baby of OG foundies born in 2010 who is in the 350 range, as expected.

Just checked one of my affixes. It wasn't an overnight change as I have one at the 960 from 2015 and then it jumped over 1,000 base GP about 4 months later. It also varied from breed to breed what the base GP was, so some breeds took off quite quickly and others took longer for the rolling gain to work up.

For most of the NIBers, just moving away from the 350GP baseline destroyed a lot of enjoyment and interest in the game (mine included). Competetive wasn't really a thing as we took more time to help each other out getting wins on difficult foundations or low GP horses. Especially if it was a horse that had been sold as a pass horse so had lost a lot of skills (Yes, I have several of these... somewhere)

I would say that if you are going to do it, do it because you really enjoy working with the breed rather than racing to a top GP spot, because getting to the top NIB GP of your chosen breed takes a very long time. And that isn't including the equus/pass sink that gathering your foundations could take you, not to mention time scouring the sales to find them in the first place.
