What is a NIB horse?
A NIB horse is a horse that is not inbred; every horse in its pedigree appears only once (with the exception of Ouranos and Gaia). Horses with "Horse Disappeared" in their pedigree are generally not accepted by NIB breeders unless the horses in question were bought before the horses disappeared and have verifiable pedigrees.

Are there green star NIB horses?
These horses have lower GP than green stars and other top horses, as not inbreeding limits the breeding availability and is slower to progress than breeding brothers to sisters and so forth.
**Misabel edit: The first Green star NIB horse was created on February 21, 2011 - a 6th generation Connemara pony with a star in stamina. He was the end result of a lot of hard work and effort, but now that some dedicated breeders have shown it can be done, we all have something to shoot for!

Are NIB horses considered better than green stars or inbred horses?
Goodness, no! Nobody here is attempting to make that claim. Just like the Zero GP horses, these players choose to play the game in their own challenging way.

How can I get involved with NIB breeding?
It's simple! Start by purchasing a few foundation horses, or horses whose pedigrees can be tracked down and verified as non-inbred. Then carefully breed them to create foals with good GP's and skills that are not inbred!

Just read about the new improvements...

Thoughts on the 20-and-under win thing? I'm feeling a bit mixed on the whole thing now...default smiley (o) Do you think it will help us or not make much difference?

I've got a foundation Arabian filly I'm looking to sell. She's 10 months old and I played foal games with her 8hours each day. I was going to use her for NIB breeding, but I also got a paint and appaloosa pair, so I can't financially support them all just yet. *amused* My not-fully-trained foundation (with no BM items at all) just beat an 18 star because they'd done no speed training and had him in a race. I had just entered him in that race to work on bolding speed, didn't expect a win. default smiley :d

I guess it doesn't hurt that he's 15 years old, too, since that gives a small advantage against a 3 year old.

Buuut... it's looking like it might not be a bad day for comps!

It's either good, or sad, when I have a little party in my head when one of my 1st-gens finally wins after about three weeks of second/third/fourth-itis. Sigh. 13 wins to go to the big 20...

While I don't think it would be a good idea to pounce on new players as soon as they join, I wonder if there's a way to encourage NIB or at least introduce the idea from the start. I only joined about a month and a half ago but I started NIB from the first moment--and while my barn probably looks a little funny to most longtime players, I'm having a really good time and have never had to "cull" any inbred horses because I never had them at all.

Other than encouraging any players we sponsor to go NIB, though, I'm not sure how best to do this!

SBKR - I absolutely understand where you're coming from....I thought I"d hit on a good patch for entries (no big green monsters in sight), but the seconditis is flaring. I went from being very enthused to very bummed out in a short time....default smiley :(

I don't think we'll have much luck in promoting NIB -- the way the game is set up, it's all about the rankings and status and elite this-and-that which we simply can't compete with -- on more than one level default smiley (lol). And really, one has to make a *living*...and my NIB horses sure aren't doing that for me...they're a very unglorious challenge...default smiley (o)

I am beginning to wish this whole achievements thing had never been brought it. Or at least not the one for getting your EC in the top 500! It's making it extremely difficult to get decent boarding for a foundie as no one with 20e+ lessons will take a 0 skilled foal - 20e lessons aren't even ideal; far from it.
I thought I was onto a winner with a few foundies I bought that were already in boarding... shame the owner refused to extend their contracts despite my blupping like crazy to get their skills up.

I may need a new plan of action involving rather a lot of eqqus, a few 1000% skillers and my own EC.... ^_^

@Wild North: Yes and no. I'm happy for the wins and it gives me hope that I will always be able to get them, no matter how outrageous the star-race gets... but it makes me sad in that it means that howrse's owner might be trying their hardest and they'll never get there, y'know?

@Sandstar: Heh... that's what I'm doing, got about half of my skillers in my own EC and put a chunk of my foundies there, depending on what I'm doing with them. I don't have any employees except myself as a riding instructor so I'm not -really- taking anything away from any other players who are trying to get there.

And it's a huge shame they refused to extend contracts. =( I've had that happen to some of my howrses and while I understand it's always still a bummer when it happens.

To get 22e/.098 lessons you need your prestige to be around 65% and dressage needs to average around 200 (who knows when that might change, they do up requirements every so often). So if you have a howrse with 100 dressage you need one near 300 to even that out... or two with 250, and so on. Horses with at least 4 stars in dressage currently are all you need, so you don't even have to get huuuge skillers. =)

Total skills themselves affect prestige/stabling percentage. Dressage affects lessons.

Sandstar - ah yes, welcome to my ridiculous world!! I'm so annoyed with that achievement and yet my pig-headed Aries nature forces me to persist!! default smiley (lol)

It really does make the finding of a decent EC very difficult -- almost impossible. I've learned to settle for 19e lessons if I get a rabbit and clean meadows....default smiley :p

I'm still trying for that achievement, but that is secondary to making sure my EC is what I want for my own horses! I bought a 18* hunter recently, hoping I can nudge my prestige higher by growing my own dressage boosters. That'll take a while, though....right now, she's just one more I have to BLUP! default smiley ;)

Wild North - Tell me about it. 19e lessons are a pain for trying to get maximum skills though.

Misabel - I bought a 20* IH today... she'd better be worth it. I have no aging points though so it'll be a while yet.

It's a shame that I can't focus my whole game on NIB bredding, but without the starred IH there's really no way of getting my EC up.

Speaking of which...I've got two foals in the sale, 18* from my own wee mare (I was hoping for more stars...default smiley :(default smiley (lol))
...I've priced them a bit high and don't expect them to sell...if they don't, I'd be happy to sell them on super-cheap to any of my fellow NIBers for EC boosting purposes!! default smiley ;)

Jeteska - ah, a fellow softie...still, their problem can be fixed with a little training advice...default smiley ;)

But I agree, it makes me very comp-aware when I'm entering my greenies -- can't bring myself to knowingly squash a desperate case....

Sandstar, I have 21e lessons at the moment. If you need a place for a few foals just let me know. That goes for everyone. My EC isn't elite but it is decent. Stays clean,rabbit pets and so forth in 99% of the stalls( the others are falabella and chicken total of about 3 like that) Also keeps carrots. All I ask is just let me know so I can reserve a box for you and lower the skills so you can get in. Just pm me. ( only posted because someone was looking for it)

I have my 1st don foal coming - finally managed to get 1 stally and 1 mare to BLUB 100

I'm still not sure if I have patience to get all those 120 foundies and their foals and their foals and... you know.... all those horses needed toBLUB for greenstar NIB...

I don't have enough foundies for that project yet and I'm actually started to think that if I find NIB breeder who is interested I might be tempted to sell my foundies and just go for my own "not so extreme" howrse breeding. default smiley :o

I don't like "twins bolted" and "father used to daughter" breeding style but amount of horses needed for nib breeding and that eternal fear of disappeared horses is bit overwhelming somethimes default smiley :(

Saia Sorrel - foundation horses are those with Ouranos and Gaia as sire and dam -- usually the one you start your game with.
