What is a NIB horse?
A NIB horse is a horse that is not inbred; every horse in its pedigree appears only once (with the exception of Ouranos and Gaia). Horses with "Horse Disappeared" in their pedigree are generally not accepted by NIB breeders unless the horses in question were bought before the horses disappeared and have verifiable pedigrees.

Are there green star NIB horses?
These horses have lower GP than green stars and other top horses, as not inbreeding limits the breeding availability and is slower to progress than breeding brothers to sisters and so forth.
**Misabel edit: The first Green star NIB horse was created on February 21, 2011 - a 6th generation Connemara pony with a star in stamina. He was the end result of a lot of hard work and effort, but now that some dedicated breeders have shown it can be done, we all have something to shoot for!

Are NIB horses considered better than green stars or inbred horses?
Goodness, no! Nobody here is attempting to make that claim. Just like the Zero GP horses, these players choose to play the game in their own challenging way.

How can I get involved with NIB breeding?
It's simple! Start by purchasing a few foundation horses, or horses whose pedigrees can be tracked down and verified as non-inbred. Then carefully breed them to create foals with good GP's and skills that are not inbred!

Wild North ~

I run into green stars in at least 3/4 of all the comps I enter. Out of about 60 comps entered each day at least 40 of them are taken over. It's really not fair. I agree because they could definitely get their wins in higher classes rather than in the lower ones we use to blup

I have nowhere to put my horses either. I don't want to put them in the Safe Haven, but I'm not getting any offers. All they're doing is taking up space.default smiley :( Any ideas?

vag personally I think you have a great herd of horses there I think if you really did not want to continue you could put them in the private sales and they will get snatched up. I don't breed the same breeds as you do or I would be interested in your horses since you have an amazing foundation herd there.

What do you think so far?

I'm just guessing what a nude horse tail looks like there. I've personally never seen it with flesh on it, so I'm assuming it looks somewhat like a dog tail.

That is so cute. My latest is in my EC forum default smiley ^). I got a mustang lineart all set up but I haven't decided whether to release it now or after I have played with it some. Someone told me they were looking for a thick built horse lineart so I found that and drew it. I don't know if she will even buy a lineart from me though soooo default smiley :-x

Thanks, that was my first solo coat, I had all the tutorials closed up when I made it. Wish my paper hadn't run out on the legs or they would be longer like they are supposed to be default smiley xd lol.

hmmmm...I thought so...(re: the green monsters)

I really think there should be some sort of 'division' system...whereby once you've achieved a certain amount of wins in a particular discipline then you're bumped up to the next division which is more difficult...or at least, keeps you away from the struggling bluppers.

Of course, one would like to rely on a sense of fair play and good sportsmanship here,but evidently that doesn't factor in for some folk.

I think there was murmurings of changing the comps system somewhere in a *News* update from Ow....

Anyhoo...today is another day.....time to dust off and get back in the saddle...

I'm very inspired by the creative output here....I may spend the afternoon fiddling with GIMP....

rikigirl, it depends a bit to be honest, everyone here has their own way of doing it. But first I guess you should read Rivenwoods message in the first post thoroughly and follow them as they give you the basics of NIBing.

When I'm out for buying, I mostly look for foals at the age of a few hours or to 8 months, but I also buy foals and horses at older age too. Always look at the horse's genetics and make sure it is a Ouranos/Gaïa horse, because some sales advertise with NIB when, in fact, its not. Some NIB breeders only go for 351.20 GP horses, and others (like me default smiley (lol)) mostly grab what we find default smiley xd

I think there are NIB Canadian breeders here too, I'm sure they'll pop up & give you tips and tricks for the breed.

I'd advice you to be patient default smiley (lol) because NIB breeding takes time, effort and a lot of waiting (especially for wins) but that just make the breeding better, and the result more accomplishing when your horse finally, finally get their last win default smiley (y).

I know my greenstars won some comps against your blubbing foundies but... let me explain.

If I'm looking comp for my blubbing horse I look what other horses are already entered to those. If I find only NIB horses (I might miss some later generations since dont allways check also family tree) I go and find something else for my "monsters"

IF there is already greenstar horse entered against those poor foundations and my estimate is that NIBs have no chance to win.. then I do my own calculations if I have chance to beat that greenstar. If answer is yes - in that case I will definately enter my horse to make comp run.

Those horses I use are all still blubbing so they need to do comps for wins or for skills so if they enter their 5star against foundies it's just similary fair play that I bring my 17star to same comp default smiley (a)

If you yourself is BLUPing your monster, I think it is okay, but its when they enter their (finished) monsters against poor (blupping) foundies just to win 10 equus I go a bit "eeeh..." default smiley xd

Thanks, Shadowbird...I absolutely understand what you're saying. I do the same thing with my greenstars...I choose races already entered by other greenstars and avoid the foundie/NIB/blupping. And if there are empty races, I choose the not-lowest-choice -- unless it's a high-skill comp. I share the opinion that if someone else's monster is already in there, it's fair game to enter to try for my piece of the purse...at that point, the damage has already been done for anyone with a lower-skill blupper who might want to enter their horse.

My issue is with the folk who DO choose the lowest possible skill-percentage with their monster horses in an already-low skill range....those people I can't imagine made an honest error in choosing those races and are simply after the win-stats because the purses are usually quite small in those races.

Happily, it's only a handful who do this and that seems to be a function of their game philosophy...*shrug* Plus I embrace the idea of karmic retribution anyway.....default smiley :p AND, I can accept that it makes it all the more of a success when we can ferret out a win with our fabulous NIBs....(feel free to join me in a superiority dance..default smiley ;))

rikigirl -- Welcome to the uber-cool world of NIB-ing!! default smiley (y) I second Skriblerier...there's some great info in the thread intro and you'll find that everyone on here is wonderfully generous with advice and help. I would add that when you're scouring the auctions, to watch for training levels in some of the foundies...oftentimes they've been mistrained in the early stages and that can make it difficult to get the 20 wins needed for your BLUP.

Oh yeah Wild North, that's like the most important thing to look after (together with the pedigree) to see if the horse is mistrained default smiley (lol) I've burnt my hands on it too many times as I was too greedy to go look with Argus eyes on 'em. default smiley (li)

Just wait Wild North, we'll get our darling NIBs up to Greenstar monsters and beat them with fire dancing in our eyes... (like the IB monsters won't have stars in their hundreds then default smiley xd)

Yes, you can do so too, just beware that the parents might disappear. Take a print screen of the pedigree to have proof that it is a NIB horse.

+ buying, BLUPing and keeping the foundies makes it easier for you to keep track of disappearances so finding foundies is a very much better thing than 1st gens, but I also have a few 1gens in my barn that I haven't bred myself so I shouldn't say much default smiley (lol)

One thing you guys have to remember when discussing the terrible greenstar monsters is that if a player is BLUPing them in one day they could be entered in TONS of competitions, blanketing them (I believe is the term). Most of them have WOY so enter in that many more comps and they can enter in the low level stuff until their skills are up higher. This means that moments before that the youngun the put in against you may have had no wins and by the time the comp runs the monster could have 50 depending on how long it takes for the comps to run. It is depressing that those horse BLUP so easily but 'tis how the rock rolls'.
