It's about time the NIB breeders had their own corner of the world default smiley ;)

The NIB FAQ:

What is a NIB horse?
A NIB horse is a horse that is not inbred; every horse in its pedigree appears only once (with the exception of Ouranos and Gaia). Horses with "Horse Disappeared" in their pedigree are generally not accepted by NIB breeders unless the horses in question were bought before the horses disappeared and have verifiable pedigrees.

Are there green star NIB horses?
These horses have lower GP than green stars and other top horses, as not inbreeding limits the breeding availability and is slower to progress than breeding brothers to sisters and so forth.
**Misabel edit: The first Green star NIB horse was created on February 21, 2011 - a 6th generation Connemara pony with a star in stamina. He was the end result of a lot of hard work and effort, but now that some dedicated breeders have shown it can be done, we all have something to shoot for!

Are NIB horses considered better than green stars or inbred horses?
Goodness, no! Nobody here is attempting to make that claim. Just like the Zero GP horses, these players choose to play the game in their own challenging way.

How can I get involved with NIB breeding?
It's simple! Start by purchasing a few foundation horses, or horses whose pedigrees can be tracked down and verified as non-inbred. Then carefully breed them to create foals with good GP's and skills that are not inbred!

Yes I started breeding NIB PAso's. Striving NIB is my firstdefault smiley :)

I am SO happy to have stumbled upon the topic. I was so caught up in the whirlwind of the GP race, I lost the focus as to what I was doing in the first place, and I started a whole NIB and Foundation herd. It truly is difficult to 100BLUP our foundies, so if anyone has some tips regarding races, I sure would love to hear from them. Would be nice to get back to the basics.......
Cheers to the "purists" (that may get me in a tad of a muss, eh!!) In the meanwhile, still chase the Big Three!

I'm just starting to breed NIB Arabs, but if the foals don't sell I may give it up.
By Retired breeder, 23rd November 2009 16:47:16
Evidently I can't bring myself to give up with NIBing - this topic has really reawakened my enthusiasm for it and I'm back with my beloved Newfies (trying to BLUP one now and waiting anxiously to see if he gets his comp wins). Hopefully I'll have something to post for next week's GP update.

I would like to start NIB but..uh im just to lazy LOL. If anyone has any NIB horses up for sale let me know! default smiley :)

Alrighty, I am glad to see so many enthusiastic NIB breeders submitting their horses for the high GP rankings! This will help us all know what to shoot for. Hopefully next week we will see every breed represented! default smiley :)
Rivenwood>> Are you going to list unis as well? I have NIB Friesian uni's and was wondering if I should submit.

I'm currently bidding for a bunch of foundie paints lol default smiley :)

I think I'll enjoy the NIBs because I don't have a huge amount of money/time for the game, and it's more concrete than crosses.
Crosses got to be a bit to abstract for me.

Anyhow... What does everyone think of a website to keep track of bloodlines? would that work?
I went ahead and made a google site, but I'm not sure exactly how I want to set it up...Does anyone have any ideas?

My thoughts are:
maybe a tree of some sort
perhaps a page per horse?
or a list?

I dunno...anyone else have any ideas?
PM me if you want to see what I have so far. No personal information, I'm trying to keep it very simple and to the point.
By Retired breeder, 24th November 2009 00:20:08
abc_s_mom - as long as they are non inbred they can be listed here as well default smiley :)

LoloJean - there's already one that contains almost the entire database from Howrse through June or July of 2008. It's searchable and also has a 'fantasy breeding' option to see if two horses would produce a NIB or a horse with inbreeding default smiley :)
By Retired breeder, 24th November 2009 00:29:06
Well, I was thinking as far as my own horses...but what is the URL of that site?
By Retired breeder, 24th November 2009 01:02:10
I am breeding NIB Arabians. I only have a very small heard at the moment and am quite selective with my breeding. I am looking for more foundations.

LoloJean, I found the site by googling Non Inbred + Howrse.
By Retired breeder, 24th November 2009 01:09:23
I breed, (or try to) breed NIB. Helpful tip.: I have horses that are related on a symbol method. Any horses that are related have matching symbols, such as ♥,☻,♦,etc. This a at a glance, I can know who is related to who. Also watch out for over bred studs, as there off spring are everywhere, making potential IB horses. Good luck to everyone!
Personally I keep track of my breeding, lines, and training in excel. It's great for organizing everything. I use the comment feature to attach every howrses lines to their name, but I don't have to look at all that info if I don't need to.

Maybe I'll NIB with the next horse breed I add to my breeding farms. It sounds interesting. Then again, I suppose I'll just have to wait and see how things turn out. If I start with foundations, it may take me a while to catch up....Maybe if I pick one of the newer breeds, it will be easier?
By Retired breeder, 24th November 2009 02:31:21
KaleidoscopeDreams: thanks!

it stinks that it doesn't update anymore default smiley :(

oh well

Rymskynx: could you show me a screenshot or something of how you do it?

___

anyway, my thinking with putting up a website is to have something easy to point to and say "here are his bloodlines" etc, if I go far enough for it to get super complicated.
By Retired breeder, 24th November 2009 02:32:57
Oh, and another random question.

Is it better to keep "my" bloodlines separate, as opposed to getting covers and foals from other people, or is sharing the ancestors ok?
Does that change with how "advanced" the lines are?

Sorry for all the questionsdefault smiley :$
I have NIB Howrse World Tour horses. (I won them from the tour.) They are under the Other Horse tab... default smiley *-) default smiley :)

LoloJean, personally I think whether you use all your own howrses or use other player's is a matter of personal preference. It also depends on how you feel about "Horse disappeared" being part of your howrses lines. Some people don't what that because it's harder to prove the horse is NIB; some people don't care as long as the breeder has records that prove the "Horse disappeared" is NIB. As long as the howrses lines don't use the same ancestor twice at all, they're NIB. Hope that's helpful.

I have always kept my own lines entirely separate - although I have sold foals from my breeding and intend to offer coverings I keep all the stock I have bred from and never use outside stallions - it's partly due to the risk of a missing horse affecting the family history but also because I view my NIB breeding as a personal project and like the idea of seeing how far I can get working on my own.

If you use outside stallions or buy in horses from other breeders, you may find yourself limited in later generations as your line will be related to the lines of other breeders, meaning you will not be able to use horses bred by others past a certain point without inbreeding. (This might change if NIB really takes off, but right now it seems there is a very limited number of breeders per breed).

I'm still working on getting my Foundation newfie stallion to 100 BLUP - waiting for the wins to come in; it seems the low entry level breed specific comps can take an age to run. Perhaps I need to invest in a filler...
