[UPDATED] Devs' Corner: April 2024

Our developers have something to tell you! Every three (3) weeks, our devs will provide you with information about their work in the “Dev’s Corner.”

This publication is a way of keeping everyone updated on what’s happening with the game. We invite you to discuss and leave your feedback for each of the publications.

Note: All posts must adhere to the forum guidelines and be constructively made.

Take a look at our very first Devs' Corner publication!

Warm wishes,

The Howrse Team

There are warnings for many things, but I would very much like a warning that I am about to lose an employee. I don't check these every day and I don't find out that they are going until they are gone.

I, like so many have stated, would quit the game if it went completely mobile. Anytime I have played on mobile, it has just been annoying.

Here's my feedback:

Added description for employees and expert diploma on the gifts detailed banner, e.g. when they can be earned in a lucky item Worthless

Changed the description of the Prehistoric divine horses Worthless
___

Why can't you fix the Promotional Videos which have been broken for over a year??

Why can't you answer our concerns over the horrible Trophies?? Now they are going to become even worse with the new "rosette" change.

So, you changed the description, but left Hipparion's perk as it is? I know I'm not the only one that wants to see the perk changed to have it give you a random foundation horse if you have them all. Ran does this, so it's clearly possible that the system can give you a foundation horse if you have all the breeds and coats. At present time, you're basically penalized for collecting too much if the multiple of 200 lands on a day where you have everything.

Well, nothing important or needed got fixed, but at least they didn't change anything for the worse this time (at least they didn't mention it if they did - looking at you Rosette Trophy).

I'm still upset at the trophies - and the semi-useless new Help Centre - and I can't believe they still haven't said anything official (other than EchOw's attempts at giving us what little info she has) about it being stuck like this. Even if it is, I would like them to let us know instead of just ignoring the fact that we all hate it and half of us are hanging on in the hopes that it will be fixed. But again that's probably the reason why they aren't saying anything.

How did they change the description of the Prehistoric horses? I don't see any difference

Now it just feels like they're inventing problems to 'solve' rather than address what we're *actually* having a problem with default smiley :k

Here’s a complaint: actually listen to the REAL problems players have, devs, and fix those issues not implementing things nobody has even asked for!

I don't see any change in the description either, and why was this even necessary? Was there some glaring issue with the previous wording? I never had trouble understanding it. There's definitely phrasings on the game that I think are misleading and could be worded better but the Prehistoric Divines weren't one of them.

Any update on stuff players have been ACTUALLY concerned about?

Everytime I try to watch a video (on my laptop), I get this message: There are no videos available right now. Please try again later.

I think they should just add Howrse commercials if they don't have any other advertisers. I pretty much don't even try anymore.

I must admit that after the infamous trophy change I lost the motivation to play. There's been days where I forgot to log in and when I do open howrse I don't even feel like playing anymore. I come to the forum and see that they are digging their grave even further and adding more ridiculous changes to rosette trophies. They either need to do some drastic yet positive changes and listen to the players or I think the game is gonna slowly die out.

There are no promotions in the Russian version for more than a year and there is no way to donate to the game. However, the server is still alive. We hope for the best. I mean, changing trophies isn't the worst thing that can happen to a game. And yet, players still continue to play and maintain interest in the game.

Changing trophies isn't the worst thing if it wasn't your main focus. However, it was my MAIN focus and it has really killed my motivation. I guess if the game disappears, which is where it is headed, so be it. "May Packs" is a new way to attempt to bring in more money but players should be apprehensive. Will they get a big response....who knows...

Is-is this actually a dev update???
I can't tell because I have no clue what these two descriptions were like before the change since they didn't contribute to gameplay at all?
This also just sounds like a ten minute job? Max???
????
I feel like I've done more work? Just in writing this post???

I really doubt (and hope) this is all the progress since the previous dev update. Just looking at this one, I would *really* appreciate if updates included what was worked on, even if they're incomplete. Would be even better if there was a small description on what they aim to be complete by the next update.
I just realized that there's no standard they're holding themselves to for updates since they're not promising anything or hinting anything. So they're not even required to reflect on anything.
If they were more transparent with what they were working on or what they're excited to show us, like "coming soon...", then a dev update like this one would be a lot less underwhelming.

It's quite concerning how every time they do an update or an event, they repeat the actions each time for the most part with the part where they're NOT actually listening to the suggestions and issues we bring up and the worst part is, we as a community are quite consistent with our complaints but they never fix them.

Yeah. On one hand, it means they can get away with doing (or not doing) whatever they like since, if players are kept in the dark, we can't PROVE that they weren't diligently working on some yet-unreleased change. AND we can't hold them to anything if they choose to never tell us what (if anything) it is.

On the other hand, they look pretty darn lazy when after a full month all they've managed to do is change two sentences of text. default smiley (o)

And no, they are not obliged to tell us what they are working on. In my opinion that would not be a good move at all. In fact they are not obliged to tell us anything until it happens and for many years when I started playing that was exactly how it worked.

Never forget that what is a game to us is a business to Owlient and they are first of all answerable to the owners and shareholders of the business. Players are customers and consumers but that does not give us the knowledge or right to demand what we want changed. We can only give feedback and, preferably, back it up with good, positive examples.

Yeah, and what you just described is a business model destined to fail. Businesses fail all the time.

Yes of course they do. And many thrive and make a fortune. None of them do what their consumers ask unless it fits their business plan. Although most do ask for feedback. Harsh but true.

At least Howrse make changes for customers where they can. Many companies don't do that.

If you want an example. My local supermarkets all change their displays around regularly. That doesn't help me or the other customers at all but it does mean that we have to look at more of their stock and maybe buy it whilst hunting for what we want. Even if all the customers complained it would still happen because its a business plan that works for the accountants.
