I don't know how many of you are aware of this, but ubisoft just closed 6 games, tanked their stocks by 33% and announced that their goals for game production are open world games with AI slop. They also shut down a studio... Don't be surprised if this game has to shut down on short notice within the next year or 2.

There is a way for them to recover from this, but I highly doubt they'll use it given how they just don't learn from their mistakes. They could be out of business before next year rolls in... I don't know a single person interested in buying AI slop games that we can't own, so this could be it for the company. Just a heads up. Go find your horsey fix on a different game so switching over won't be so abrupt if that's what this comes to. The company is broke enough to be cancelling games and closing studios now. It's bad. Unless I'm misunderstanding something here or they actually come up with a good game despite using AI and it sells.

Also expect more potential demands for money on this game because they DID just tank their stocks by 33%. It's not like they were rich before that...

Also another heads up... I heard that discord is starting to ask for age verification... I didn't look into it because I can just find alternative ways to communicate with my friends when gaming, so it doesn't really affect me. But it might affect anyone trying to access the howrse discord. Right now, I think it's just limited to UK and Australia, but it might spread to other countries too...

As I understand it, they didn't quite "close" six games. They cancelled the development of six games that were in production but had not been finished (like the Prince of Persia remake, which was unlikely to make much money). While Ubisoft's in a bad place it's less likely they'd close finished games that are cheaper to run and idly make money, like Howrse.

I'm in Australia, and got asked to verify my age for Discord. Literally all it was was filling in my birth year, I didn't need to provide any identification. It's unlikely to be a problem, I think.

Not so sure on that but I wouldn't say it isn't possible. Everything has to end sometime. I've been here for forever so I remember when Owliet was an independent entity and it was acquired by Ubisoft for similar reasons (if I remember correctly). The worst case scenario is obvious, but I think its a last resort, especially since the game does bring in SOME money. Ubisoft would probably try to break up and sell off assets (which I wouldn't be surprised if that happened) before it shut down revenue streams. Its not rare for businesses to try to go that route first; in fact I know of a big game company that had to sell off some of its assets last year. Anything is possible though, no matter how unlikely.


Also, about Discord:

Laws were passed in those countries barring minors under 16(I think that's the age limit) from social media and Discord falls under that category. Unless other counties begin passing similar laws (Europe/Canada maybe, US more than likely won't) it won't affect users outside of those countries.
