And I certainly don't play to turn cows into leather. (As stated in the upcoming changes.)

Oh no!!- that means we have to kill the cows just to get leather saddles for our EC's...

That's really sad.

"Kid friendly game." Plans to make kids (and adults) kill cows to get leather. (Because it's impossible to get get leather from a cow that's still living.)

I wonder if they'll include the entire tanning process of making leather, or if it will just be "I killed a cow, now I have leather; let's go make a saddle." I bet the population of vegetarians and vegans who play will not be happy with this, even if it is just a picture of a cow.

Perhaps - and this is just my thoughts, in no way should this be taken as an official statement on anything;

I know in some other games - when you have a certain amount of an item or something, you get something in return (ex. When you have 6 chickens - you get 1 dozen eggs a day)

Perhaps this will be the case with the cows - when you own x amount of cows, you'll get x amount of Leather after a certain period of time [The more cows you have, the more leather you can get at a time]

Then, you can just take the leather and make Saddles/Bridles. With this method - there is no mention of killing, tanning, etc. If a player wants to believe this to be the case - that's fine. If a player wants to believe the cows are magic and shed their skin like a lizard - that's fine.

I don't think I'd want to join a game that kills cows and if a had not come this far in the game I would certainly stop playing . It's a awful change. Just for leather ? Does howrse know the horrors some of those poor animals go through?!? I can't beleve they think this is a good idea in the slightest. I know they're only pixels but it's still just wrong.
I really hope your idea is right. I really really hope that this is what happens.

You could also assume that the cows live a nice life of fertilising the meadows and the whole getting-leather stuff happens after they died from old age

So now we can pretend our meadows are fertilized by cow manure? (I found some in my hay a couple months ago. I was not happy.)

Well, if memory serves - Cow manure is actually better than Horse manure for growing crops in real life...so that's a perk right there.

Anyhow...guess all we can do is wait and see what happens when it comes to the Cows

@ShorahNagi I think your right. It is a game that has a lot of chilren playing after all.
The cows are probably going to be another non interactive item just like the calves used for cutting in Western EC's.
You'll probably be able to swap them let's say once a month or less, and in return you get leather.
So to restock you need to buy more.

I wonder if they plan to do the same with the draft horses - as in make them just another EC item that is needed to do X task.

ok well if you have a problem killing cows, then dont make leather. but its a part of life. leather comes from animals so there is no way to just say that we pick saddles up in the woods. maybe change them to synthetic saddles?

Thats why in real life there is synthetic saddles!

Dear gods, I'm already foreseeing the whole 'turning cows to leather' thing to be a similar 'rumor' - for lack of a better word - as the Safe Haven being a 'slaughter house'. *eye roll* They're pixels, not real.

In any case, the scenario Shorah gives for the whole 'cow to leather' thing sounds interesting.

I think it was in upcoming features we can breed cows for leather. Why is it that people have a problem killing cows for leather, but killing horses for passes is ok?

That's actually a good point Ginny_3...I don't like the term "killing off pass horses" but with my pass horses, I take good care of them until they're thirty, and just think-

"I'm sending them off to Heaven because they're old and I took good care of them...and I get one pass from it,"

So I don't use the term "killing them off"

Couldn't you just say "I raised my cows until they are 30 I took good care of them and now I get leather?"

...Why do people make such a big deal out of things *when they haven't even happened yet*
