just wanted to support the views of the other players that have made their opinions on the forum change known.

i agree with the sentiment that the forums are outdated and not the most organised or efficient form of communication. however, i disagree that the solution is to move all communication off-site. forums merely need updated features such as notifications, thread following, reply notifications, ability to edit and delete posts. basically updated to what forums were 10 years ago lol. more freedom of content and gifs / more emojis etc and more off-topic public forums would be amazing, positive changes.

Respectfully disagreeing only on this point here.

The ability to edit and delete posts was removed for a very important reason, and that is catching abusers of the service without them masking the 'crime' with the push of a button. If you misuse the forums, the abuse must be non-editable.

The use of Pictures was also removed along with gifs because this site is for families, but most of all this is a problem of ACCESSIBILITY. Gifs, flashing images or brightly colored fonts and pictures are very disturbing to sensitive people.

Yes, the forum might seem """""Antiquated"""" but it was made so for a reason.
Yes, the forum is very sober and not flash, but that's what makes it safe and easy to use for everyone, hence why we refused the white background when it was updated. default smiley :)

I understand your point, however

accessibility is important, but there are ways to work around this easily as many other forums do. having player settings automatically set to "no gifs, no flashing images" and players being able to switch this feature on if they choose, for example.

additionally, it's clear howrse is confused on it's own position of being family friendly. most of the paying players are adults and there should be more spaces for less censored discussion (not nsfw, but less kid oriented). those with their age set above 18 should have more forums available to them for general discussion. the discord server is less censored than the forums so i assume howrse wants to move in this direction? it's unclear but i stand by my point that adult players want adult only spaces where they can chat with one another.

also - audit logs exist. howrse needs to get rid of this antiquated forum model and update to something more functional. modern forum styles allow mods and admins to view change / edit history so that the issue you're describing cannot happen. if someone edits their message, mods could view what it used to be. there are many easy fixes to this that come along with modern forums.

your points are all very valid, but i think the main issue is that the forums as we currently have them are old and outdated and require a revamp and complete overhaul in terms of technology, and howrse doesn't want to foot the bill for this.

i simply think revamping the forums is a better choice for the players & the business of howrse than taking the slightly lazy option and moving everything to discord

I know I am late to this discussion, but is there anything that can be done besides sending tickets to contact us about the forum issue? I just want to make sure that I can make my opinion known. I am sad to hear they are going to get rid of (or wish to) the forums. I played years and years ago as a minor and felt safe on Howrse and knew that the site was monitored. Now I am an adult, but I remember how many sites and games I played where minors were taken advantage and how scary that could be. I know my parents would not have allowed me to be on discord if I was a minor now, and any questions I would have about the game would not be able to get answered without a forum...

I agree loads with this. This, right here, is a good number of suggestions. I can only hope that Howrse listens to us.

I have been on Discord for a few years mainly to have instant communication with team mates and the ability to contact players that I don't know in real life when they are offline. When Howrse introduced message notifications it was a good thing. But where Discord is superior is is that there are pop notifications. A few lines of text that you can quickly read without stopping what you're doing and switching tabs.

I joined the Howrse channel and within 5 minutes muted the whole thing. I was thoroughly disgusted by the swearing and the bullying. There was even a few players telling others to die.

The problem with Discord is there's no accountability. People can make up whatever username they want and delete a harmful bullying post immediately. But the damage is already done. There are many instances of people committing suicide due to online bullying. Does Howrse want to be responsible for that?

My suggestion if Howrse insists on proceeding with this idea is: Have players use the same username on Discord as they do on Howrse. That way there's accountability for however they break rules and sanctions can be applied to the player. A way to ensure this is when someone asks to join the server they get a confirmation link in the Howrse inbox. Another thing is to have a time delay for posts with a list of key words that automatically flag a post for bullying, rule breaking etc. The players Howrse UN is linked so they can be dealt with. Obviously there can be challenges within private messaging but if Howrse accepts screenshots form Discord as proof of whatever infraction it will greatly reduce issues.

I agree that this would be helpful, however,

There is no actual way to enforce the 'One login corresponds to one horse login'. For one, Discord and Howrse are SEPARATE server, so you cannot use bots or automated mails for this. How would that work? How do you ensure that players don't cheat this out?

I might have accounts on various Howrse servers, all with different names, how does that work for me? Where am I going to be punished? How can you verify it's me?

Second, Howrse cannot punish somebody for something they MIGHT have said on a different site/app/whatever. Because as we said there's no way to verify that it's actually them AND if Discord were to actually sell the date to confirm said claims, that would be a very, very hot potato for them.

Now, I might be spectacularly wrong, but it just seems too hard in my opinion. That part is just not feasible, it's not happening.

Oh boydefault smiley (lol) Just read through this forum and have come upon all this lot. Howrse just never ceases to confuse me.

I feel like I've just read through a novel's worth of forum pages!

Anyway, I'm not even surprised anymore, it's just sad. Imagine alienating non-English speakers and younger players because you want to MODERNISE?! we all like it here as it is! we are on howrse because it gives us that blast-from-the-past feeling!

Okay, but surely howrse will see all these messages, right? someone will surely inform them that there's disruption and upset within the community? and yet, we all know what they'll do:

howrse: we listen to our players!!!
also howrse: creates awful change no-one asked for
players: please change!
howrse: no.

Discord is literally not the *best* of places, especially for younger players. there's a lot of… drama and definitely inappropriate discussions. Howrse should NOT be contributing to that and yet, they have somehow found a way.

The sad thing is that the players (like me) who are upset in these forums will get ignored. All they see is money, yet somehow, they seemingly do everything they can to upset the players who are paying them that money..

Also, why is howrse censoring messages that forget to hide their spoilers? This is literally called the spoiler zone- surely people who come on here know there'll be spoilers here?

That's because posts from the Spoiler Zone do turn up when you use the search bar, and thus players who do NOT want to see Spoilers might accidentally come to see one, if they look for a word that matches a Spoiler post default smiley :)

Does anyone get a Pendragon the 19th or just a few. Because I appreciate the thought for my birthday but I already have one. Good and bad luck in the same package.

The advent calendar isn't an event, per say. It's a separate page during the month of December to count down from December 1st to Christmas Eve (I believe, please correct me if I'm wrong). It offers prizes ranging from regular stuff like fodder and EC enhancements to Black Market items. During the weekends, a select number of players will receive whatever divine is being offered in the calendar. So for Pendragon, a certain number of people will win him on the 19th but most people won't. The advent calendar usually runs concurrently with the Christmas event and sometimes will offer bonuses to help with that event. Last year the Christmas event was the Lapland Hike, so on some days the advent calendar would give you tokens. Hope that answers your question.

@miss anthropocene Giving any ability for control of whatever feature to users is 100% decreasing of accessibility and website security. And I am saying this with all my 15+ years of experience in that area of web dev. Any users. Especially minors. Allowing edit/gifs/emoticons to them is like giving a fridge full of ice cream to a kid. And according to you, the kid will not try to eat it all at the same time. Wrong.

I have been on the game for two years, and in each advent calendar 4 divines have been offered. I haven't won any of the 8 divines offered and only know ONE person who has. So it's a very rare chance.

Hey everyone! I have read your comments and wish to clarify the situation regarding the new Discord and hopefully reassure you regarding a few points.
Firstly, there will be no changes to the English servers, nor any plans to do so at this time. While we understand the logic that all forums will disappear on all servers, this is NOT the case for the English servers. Should there be a change in the future, players will be updated accordingly.

Secondly, private messages (PMs) are not leaving the site for the other language servers. This means players can still communicate with each other via Howrse and receive announcements.

Concerning underaged players and discord: The discord link will not be readily available for them on Howrse. However, these players will not be lost without the discord, as they will still have access to Contact US and the Help Center. Again, all announcements will still be made via PM (in the language of that server).

Lastly, Moderators and admins will be removing content on the official Discord that is not suited for Howrse. The Dev Team is also looking into more solutions to help moderators fight against cheating/inappropriate content. If you have an account on another language server, should you have any concerns over something you see on the official Discord, please Contact Us from your other language account.

I hope this reassures most of you. Should you have any other concerns, please Contact Us. We will be more than happy to further clarify and/or receive feedback.
