[Updated] Black Pearl Clarification

The Black Pearl

You need at least 60 days of seniority and 5 karma points to use the Black Pearl.

We'd like to clarify a few things concerning the proposals for the Creative Space. We've had the time to see how things went and made some changes along with some additional advice.

For the Horses, Pegasus, Unicorns, Donkeys, and Ponies.

Using shadows in your creations:

We are probably going to add them ourselves in the future to have something that has the right perspective on the backgrounds, and that has a uniform texture across the coats.

You can use shadowing, but we ask that you keep them very light so that the images will fit with most Helios Ray backgrounds.

Cut out your edges more.

When we place the coats on a dark background in a lot of cases, there are stray light colored pixels all around the drawing. This makes it impossible to use on a dark background.
Tip Please take the time to take a look at your coat on a white and on a black background, in order to get rid of any leftover smudges or pixels. Also, look a little further away on just the outline. Often the coats have a smudge around the corners or along the border of the image.

Use the smudge or blur tool sparingly.

It's a pity to see a coat that has been worked on then filtered with a blur filter, and it comes out all smudgy. It's also a pity to see a coat with smudge marks on one side and not the other.

Be careful when playing around with reformatting an image.

Sometimes we get perfectly nice drawings of Sausage horses because the file has been altered, and the horse has been squashed or pulled in another direction.
This might be a great way of transforming an Irish setter into a Teckel, but it isn't very pretty on horses. Also, avoid making your resolution too low and giving the picture a pixel art look

Backgrounds

Using brushes is allowed.

They can be used as well, but we'd like to also remind you of the Black Pearl page information as seen in the quote below.

“Excess airbrushing is not allowed”. It is allowed but not too much!"

We have received tons of entries like this and have been very cool about it up until now. However, seeing the same tree used 4 times in different backgrounds is starting to get a little old.

From here on out, we'll start to be a bit more strict about this type of thing. This is due to the fact that it's unfair and the aim of the Creative Space is to work things with your own hands, not make photo manipulations. The same thing goes for photos or bits of photos.

Painting, blurring or smudging landscape pictures.

Moving forward, we'll simply remove the right to propose any creations to the Creation space forever for those who do try to do this.

Check the perspectives.

When you make a background, please consider that there has to be something for the horse to put his feet on. It's quite strange the have a picture with a nice pond in the background and the horse is floating in the middle of it in thin air.

The same goes for outer space and clouds etc. Just try and make the backgrounds usable for everyone, not just the Pegasus. Also, make sure that the horses won't look like giants in the middle of a forest when you decide to draw trees or other items.

Rules

Plagiarism is forbidden!
Respect the author's rights: we do not steal images off of the Internet; we do not trace photos; we do not use the basis of someone else if they have not given their authorization, preferably publicly.

What is plagiarism? Plagiarism is taking someone else's work and passing them off as your own.

We can take inspiration from a style, a movement, a mane or a coat without copy-pasting it. It’s the same idea for literature, graphic arts, video games or cinema - there is often inspiration taken from another creation. Inspiration is imbued with another creation in order to interpret it and create something new! Copying is recreating identically. Copying is not having a style or a vision of your own. Try to have the imagination and bring your unique personality to your creations.

Please also note that any cheating can get you excluded from proposing any artwork to the Creative Space forever and/or be followed by sanctions.
Players who submit an artwork not created by themselves, AI-generated or plagiarized will be permanently banned from using the Black Pearl.

Otherwise, all the usual rules still apply.

Before posting:

It is forbidden to mock or ridicule creations/creators
Don't post too many steps regarding your work to avoid flooding of the topic.
IT IS FORBIDDEN TO ASK FOR VOTES!

You are welcome to promote your creations or creations you voted for using #HowrseBP on social media or promote your creations on your profile page.

This topic can be used to help each other understand the Black Pearl rules with respect to your creative content.

Players who do not follow the rules are exposed to sanctions.

Regards
The Howrse team

The instagram posts don't seen to want to link properly. It's still not showing. I would upload your image to a website like Postimage.org, and use the direct link from that.
I have it uploaded to deviantart. Here it is:
Did it work?

hey superocelot02, one way of knowing if it will work is that your link has to end with an image file name, such as .jpg or .png. Linking the website won't work, you have to only just link the image itself that is hosted on the website.

The link itself takes you to deviant, I can see it there. (Good job btw big improvement to how it looked before) but it won't work on here. I've tried for you, and it won't even let me. So I would recommend using somewhere such as Imgur to upload it, then get the link, then as FoxyDancer said, use .jpg or .png at the end of your link.

There is a thread for this in the event section, where you can test out if a link will work, so that this topic doesn't become flooded with image errors.

Wasn't it 60 days of seniority before? Or was that just a special going on?

It was for a limited time, to give newer players a chance to submit creations. We don't know if/when it will happen again.

Here is how to post your image (or any image in general)
1. Upload your image file to https://imgbb.com/ or just any other image hosting site.
2. When it is finished, it will give you a link. Copy and paste that into your search bar.
3. You will see your image on the site. Right-click and click "Copy Image Address" (it should end in a .png or a .jpg once you paste it)
4. Click the "Add an image" icon at the top of the box where you type your responses, Paste the image address you copied into the bar, or press Ctrl V.
5. Click "Preview" to make sure you see the image before you post.

What is the correct canvas sizing for the Helios Ray creations?

Also, when I tried loading an H. Ray creation, it said my file didn't fit the requirements even though it was a JPEG image. Any reasons why?
I'm struggling to submit a Golden Apple creation.
The file is within the size limit, is in .PNG format, the horse is within the lines and no part of it touches or overlaps where the black lines were in the template.
I removed the lines as instructed as well.

It still will not let me submit.
Any advice?

Re-download the template and put the creation on the template again. On a new layer (below the coat) fill the layer with black paint and check for pixels (recheck on white , red, and then yellow backgrounds as well). Sometimes there is that one tiny pixel that messes it all up.

Unless I'm misunderstanding you, you are not supposed to remove the lines of the template, you have to leave them on. Also good to check for stray pixels too though!

Thanks guys, I got it to submit.
I was being a silly billy and removed the lines as I read the instructions for the Helios instead of the Golden Apple.

You guys rock.
Hopefully my creation gets some votes. default smiley :p

People have asked this a lot, and I'm thinking about maybe trying to do a landscape for the helios in future too, so I'd like to know.

Where can I find/download the template?

What size does the painting you create, need to be to fit the helios ray template?

Is there any other advice that would be helpful when creating a ray? Like, issues when submitting etc to look out for?

Thanks default smiley (l)

I don't quite understand what you mean when you say valid draw.

But if you meant draw traditional then copy it / make it digital to fit the GA template, that is fine.

There are many free digital art programs you can use if you do need any though, so I wouldn't worry about that. A lot of people I know use GIMP.

It needs to be exactly 2006x840 pixels. If you ever forget, the info is easy to find on the first page of this thread.

I find that if you draw on a background exactly that size, there are no issues with submitting. You don't need to bother with erasing the horse in the box, for example, since the background goes over top it anyways.

Good afternoon! I have a question about drawings for creative space. Could it be that more than one new golden apple coat will enter the game at the same time? If this is possible, do you know the artist players who had more drawings per game at a time? Thank you so much for your reply and sorry if there are any mistakes in this message, I am trying to make my English better.

It is possible to get two or more creations in the game at a time, but it is SUPER rare/difficult, even if you submit the maximum amount of creations allowed (which is 10).

I can't remember the names of the players that have gotten in two or more at the same time, but I'm sure you can just search up names in the creation directories and look at the dates that they were submitted.

I once got three accepted in a month (two coats and a ray) however that was a long time ago. I contacted Howrse this year asking if you can get multiple accepted and this is what they said -->

Thank you for your question regarding the creation space. In order to create a more balanced and fair environment, we are attempting to limit the creations that are accepted from a single player to 1 so that all creators have a bit higher chance.

However, it can still happen that several creations from the same player are accepted but that's really, really rare and most-apt to be in some cases such as a shortage of entries for a particular kind of creation.
