It would only be free if EC supplies fodder. I very rarely find ecs that provide, needed fodder.

I find tons, but then again I'm on at what some would call 'odd hours'. Typically I can find some of the best at just before 3 or 4 in the afternoon Central time. Best meaning, ECs that have what I want.

Didn't know Minecraft was the only game allowed to use a crafting feature. They'll have a lot of money when they star suing over it I suppose.
You just missed them.

But just keep checking, you cant miss them.

Don't forget all those other games. Farmville (and those like it), Age of Empires, etc.

I find the crafting system in Howrse is much different than Minecraft - and in no way is it a new function that any one game could claim the rights to (after all - I recall crafting things by combining items in the old point-and-click adventure games).

Still, while I do like it for some things (ex. troughs, saddles, etc) - I do not like it for others (mashes, manure, etc).

Also, for those worried about not being able to find a center with enough food, do keep in mind that:

Click to display

<b>The prestige value of the meadows owned by the equestrian center in which your horse is boarded gives you a share of fodder for free</b>. If fodder is provided by the equestrian center, the fodder taken from the meadows will not be taken from storage.

So it is highly possible that even if you can't find an ec with a large amount of Fodder avaible, you might still be able to get some for free. I'll do a little more research into this as well to see if this is the case (and if anything would come out of your inventory)

Even in my crummy 5 acre for 25 horse EC In the dead of winter I was still finding plenty of free fodder.

260 Diamonds, 16 Passes, and 2 Item Exchanges later and no Xanthos...I know that feeling default smiley :( (Guess I'll have to hope they do another Pass Pack like the Olympus Pack again where you can choose a Divine)

And I just ran a short test in regards to EC's and Fodder (or lack of based on my comments in the Spoiler I posted above)

Click to display
In regards to Centers providing free food:

This is the current Prestige of my Center on Preprod - note the Prestige of my meadows.

Now, this is my stock of items - I have sold off almost all the Fodder I had in inventory for the purpose of this test:

This is the Feed Action Page of a horse boarded in my Center:
Note that the bar is all blue, meaning nothing is coming out of my Personal stock and is instead coming from the EC.

Now if we look at my stock of items again:

You'll notice the center (and thus myself as the inventories are combined) - still has the original 21 units of Fodder, and that it was only the 2 units of Oat taken from the center stock (The original image shows 368,736 Oat - while this one shows 268,734)

So even though a Center does not have enough fodder to make it available to boarders (or only has a little so that while it doesn't show as a benefit, you can still use it) - my horse was still able to feed without me (or the center) losing anything.

I don't know about you, but I think that will help save both the horse owners and the center owners money and/or resources

Anyone have/know of a reason why Howrse hasn't allowed there to be Donkey Unis? I mean, the 'unrealistic' point of view doesn't work because unis aren't realistic in the first place! Draft unis would be cute. but I agree with appylover2010, they{Howrse} probably won't allow them.
There are way too many EC changes! I'm not saying they are good or bad, as that would take too much "research" on my part for me to decide, but there's just so many of them! I'm glad that I have my EC for the Forum! LOL!

They will be like donkey's in terms of breeding, only 3 coverings. No one knows anything else about them.

Who knows - though the theory I've long had in mind about the reason why is because:

Unicorns (and Pegasus as well) are always portrayed as being more horse-like (tall, sleek-looking, graceful, etc). Ask someone to draw you a Unicorn - and while you might get the handful who go for the old style (the one's with the cloven hoof, the beard, etc) - I feel the majority will look like a horse with a horn on its head. The same thing would go for a Pegasus as well.

As such, Howrse decided to keep with this portrayal and have only Horses and Ponies be Unicorns (and Pegasus).

Another reason could also be because of the limited coverings - though it is only a chance, I know I'd be a little annoyed (and also depressed) if all three of my Unicorn Donkey's coverings resulted in normal foals as opposed to Unicorns.

I don't really like the crafting idea but everything else seems fine I guess. Does the crafting take real time and quiet a bit of equus to make things? I really hope not, I would not be using that feature at all if it did...but then it ties into EC's so then my EC is not going to be a in good place. Sigh....too many EC changes are happening. I like them the way they are. If they could slow down the EC changes and not bring out so much at once, that'd be way better. It's sort of overwhelming having so many things to figure out, hopefully it won't be so.

On the plus side...DRAFTS! Oh I cannot wait for them, they are so going to be my main focus, along with my unicorns, and other specials. default smiley (7)default smiley (l)
Retired breeder wrote:

Yes, but it uses resources (and equus if you need to buy resources) - which you can gather some from lessons, some by growing crops, etc. (though some of them you will need to buy; Ex. a Center in the Mountains will need to buy Wood and Sand as they can not harvest these with Missions)

However, I've looked at some numbers - and in the end, some items end up being cheaper if you buy the Resources for them as opposed to buying them right out:

Here's an example:

Click to display
We'll use the Water Trough for this example:

At present time - a single Water Trough is selling for 30,238e in the Store

So for that price, I have a trough instantly that I can use in a box (more expensive, but faster)

Likewise, every Center will be given a Small Workshop with this change. A small workshop can craft 1 Water Trough in a period of 10 hours. *note the time period to craft items is the same regardless of amount and workshop size

To do so, you need 1,500 Iron in your inventory.

If your center is in the Mountains - you'll have this resource brought to you by missions (saving you money), likewise - you can also buy Iron in the store (Beach and Forest Centers will need to do this).

Iron sells for 10e a unit

Since we need 1,500 units - this is a price of 15,000e.

Already - compared to buying one at the store, we've saved about half the cost (and even more was saved for a Mountain center that doesn't need to buy as much), but of course - the downfall is that it will take a lot longer for us to get the Trough.

To sum it up:

If you want to have items quickly - you'll have to pay more
If you want to pay less - you'll need to wait for your items

*Think of it like ordering something online - you can pay an extra $10 for overnight shipping, or you can pay $3 and receive it sometime within the next 3 to 5 days.

Of course, you could always do a little bit of both (buy Mashes from the store, but have things like Saddles be crafted)

Okay, but than they could make the unis have maybe like an extra three coverings or something. Or have that be a VIP perk or something. I'm just really hoping they will allow Drafts to be unis. Even though I doubt they will...default smiley (d)
And just imagine cute Donkey unis! Aww! LOL! And Donkey Pegasus! Again, aww! LOL!
Howrse is changing REALLY fast. But why draft horses? I thought that draft horses were hihgly discouraged? Remember the rules in the ideas forum?

They were but as stated in the Terms of Use;

17.3 Modification of Access to Services and Content

a) OWLIENT may modify the Content for any reason or without any specific reason, at any time, in particular for technical reasons such as updates, maintenance operations and/or resets to improve and/or optimize the Services.

To me, this means that - while they might say no one one thing for one reason or another originally (ex. Winged Unicorns due to the coding it would take, and the need for new images)...changes might come along that make it possible (ex. Better graphic editing software (you'll notice now that Wings, the horn, mane and tail, etc are all now 'layers' that can simply be added/removed from one model as needed - saving the need for someone to draw 3 different variants of the same coat.)

Are the crafts limited to the type of ec we have?
For example, can a classic ec craft western saddles?

SO, I have a few questions:

Click to display

How were the drafts released on the test server?
What is the production time and requirement of the manure (and how many at once can a small workshop make?)
Same as above for mashes.
What are the sizes of workshops that you can have?
