howrse, you're sinking your own ship. Second or third time I've said this. You censor things that are polite and in spoiler text. Minors are stating their ages on the new server and why is nobody stopping them?! That's what the mods are for.
Plus, you cannot, absolutely CANNOT, expect all these thousands of players to speak in English. Only English??! Are you kidding me, howrse! Bulgarian players, Swedish players, Danish players, Ukrainian players. What if they don't know English? What if they are unable to learn it. Speaking as a native English speaker. If somebody expected me to speak, write, read, and type Cyrillic, all day every day, I'd accept the challenge. But the moment somebody said, "hey guess what! Screw you, if you speak, write, read or type your native language at all you get punished!" I'd go off on them. And quit the game. This is exactly 100% what you're doing.

I'm so tired of this, howrse. I swear. I get that the moderators are trying to keep this forum kind and helpful, and to keep anyone from being spoiled without warning, but from what I know you can just go in and add the spoilers to the message. I find it hard to believe that you haven't seen dreambeauty's multiple messages about these censors making them cry. Just don't. I swear you are picking on her as well as horsemother. And to my earlier point, on the server? Please moderate. It's a trainwreck.
To the admins, if they see this: Why is "g*y" censored, but not "d@mn"? Howrse is openly homophobic. Cut this cr@p. Please.
So. I will definitely have more to say as this goes on. And about the "no dming mods or admins" thing: what if there's a predator or a scammer on the loose in the server? Pinging a mod in full view of everyone else, including that person, does no good.
How long this post is-and how much more I'll be adding-proves it: Howrse is going downhill. This is their worst decision yet. I hope you realize just how much you screwed your fanbase over when these servers begin disappearing, and the larger ones begin shrinking.

khspoon, I disagree. Yes, the mods are unpaid, which is unfair and makes no sense. But read my earlier posts. This has got to stop. I understand modding is a stressful job especially for a server as big as this but it's ridiculous now.

Id like to know where I was incorrect as most of the problematic people who had really no constrictive and continue to break simple rules get censored. Feel free to DM me. Otherwise I'm dipping out of this fustercluck.

I just wanted the assurance of the forum staying central and managed. It should never have gotten so heated and that was the mods responsibility. I will not let children from my family near discord. I respect their privacy but I have to protect them from pure agression and trash. If horse multiply the subterfuge for forcing people to get toxic app like closing most of the forum, offering advantages, and maybe using daily objectives, I am sure I can find an another game about breeding horse. Copyright go only so far with video game. Change the design, some simple elements like giving the EC a more important place and it’s a brand new word.

Discord makes it so easy to message anyone, anything, out of the blue.. sure there are setting for it but kids being kids may not know (or their parents may not know) how to active them or even that those setting exist in the first place.


What kind of disclaimer or warning is going to be given prior to being allowed to post in the server?

How will the discord be moderated?

What if something inappropriate did happen? What plans are in place to prevent incidents?

Do you need to prove to been a member on Howrse before joining? If so, how?
What stops someone from copying the link and spreading it outside Howrse?

The potential for scams is high.. what about people who might PM links to fake discords claiming it's the real one? (most older players likely won't fall for it but, once again, there are many kids on this site who may not know better)

There are too many questions right now.. some parents may actually prevent their kids from continuing to play if they need to use an external site/program just to communicate with other players.

the Xmas event, we have asked (not received an official response yet) BUT, from the feel of the event, it looks like we're getting two Xmas themed events and this one is just the 'appetizer' and not the Official event. However we'll know for sure in 2 weeks from now.

The Hike event is going to start.
Now, the event is very straightforward, however, I wanted to remind you all that there is a rare, rare rare rare Ladybug companion in the event.

In Preproduction, it was on Goal 5, to the RIGHT.

I'm not sure if it's still the case but if so, make absolutely SURE you're on the column to the RIGHT before you pass Goal 5. Missing on the Ladybug is a terrible thing and nobody should do that.

If you see you're in a tight spot (not enough tokens to change lane) do NOT move for the day and wait for the next day's tokens to make sure you can change lane.

As you can see, the Ladybug is to the right. Make SURE you're on the correct lane.

Athos! The Themis scale dropper.

Now, Athos works in a very peculiar manner, so take a few minutes to fully digest everything.

On Athos's page, there are two buttons, One for All and All for One.

IF you press One for All, you get 4 points and send a request for help. The request pairs you randomly with another player. If that player picks the other button, you get another 6 points.

IF you press All for One, you get 6 points and that's it, but you also help the player that was paired with you.

No, you cannot see which player you were paired with, you just have to hope somebody helps you.

If you always get helped and thus get 10 points daily, you'll get your Scale in 10 days
If you always get the 6 points daily, you'll get your Scale in 83 days
If you always get the 4 points daily, you'll get your Scale in 127 days.

I'll always press All for One, so if you're ever paired with me you have nothing to worry about

They'll just put every single request on a big big pot and then pair everybody systematically, without sending requests to random players. We cannot see if we help somebody so it's also safe to assume this is a possibility

Hey there, I'd just like to add my two cents as a forum lurker. This is far from my first account, and I played ages ago under the account prettypeppermint. Forums have always been something that set howrse apart from other games- a safe place for all players to converse and share information. There is generally a short wait for any questions to be answered and it fosters a sense of community. While the forums here have gone much quieter, I still believe they are invaluable for players and would be immensely saddened to see them removed, here or any server, particularly when members of other servers do not speak English and are more or less forced to on the discord.

My notes on discord
As an adult, I do primarily use discord to remain in touch with my friends. However, it is far from infallible, and creates vulnerabilities not present in the howrse forums. Particularly, like others have mentioned I worry for younger players who could easily fall victim to online predators. I have seen it happen with my younger sister, and it's terrible. Because the forums on howrse are public, there is a much smaller chance for that abuse, and it's simple enough to report a PM. While I am not against howrse having a discord, it doesn't sit right to get rid of the forums that are in place and beloved by many players.

To the mods
I do not harbor any ill will for you or think you are wrong to censor messages. Emotions are running high about this situation, clearly and I hope people will recall what an important part of the community mods are.

i agree with the sentiment that the forums are outdated and not the most organised or efficient form of communication. however, i disagree that the solution is to move all communication off-site. forums merely need updated features such as notifications, thread following, reply notifications, ability to edit and delete posts. basically updated to what forums were 10 years ago lol. more freedom of content and gifs / more emojis etc and more off-topic public forums would be amazing, positive changes.

discord is a great platform, but by de-centralising the game's primary communication between both players and moderators, you're opening the game up to so many issues.

- new players will find the reliance on discord confusing, they may not even bother learning how to use it before ditching their new howrse account.
- minors should not be using discord due to the inability to safe-guard them whilst using howrse's server and the lack of verification of identity in the server. this means your **core** player base cannot use basic communication functions to ask questions or just be involved in the community. the community feeling is what makes people stay, and is what keeps this game alive.
- the howrse server breaks discord's TOS and is mismanaged. the moderators are trying their best but the way the server is set up doesn't work. we should be able to contact mods and admins directly within the server/discord.
- people don't want to get a whole other app just to see basic game updates, this will drive away established players and new players alike. convenience cannot be understated on games like this.

i'm not surprised by the resistance to listen to clearly overwhelmingly negative feedback; howrse are notoriously bad in this area. i hope they can see that the players commenting on this only want to help their favourite game survive for longer and to prosper in a marketplace where simple browser games have all but died out entirely.

howrse survives on the power of nostalgia. the admins should be leaning into this angle rather than getting rid of all the features of the past years. nostalgia is why the majority of this player base either returned or are still here, so use this to your advantage rather than deleting cherished features like the forums which have been here since day one. bring back suggestions forum, bring back card packs and let us buy old privileges. listen to the players that pay the bills and stop creating such a weird tension between staff and player! if we are able to freely communicate and feel our opinions are valued, the howrse staff could get some amazing ideas for features which would help the business and keep the players happy.
