Favourite Crossbreds!

Hi! I'm a pretty new player, and I'd really like to know some of you guys' favourite crossbreds to breed on Howrse (or in real life, of course).

This can be done like a game. The first person will give a breed, and the next person has to come up with another breed that they think will go well with the last breed given. Then write out the full crossbred name (eg. Welsh-Thoroughbred, or Appaloosa-Thoroughbred), and come up with a new breed you'd like the next cross to start with. Thanks!

With a Friesian, I'd go Andalusian. So, Friesian-Andalusian (aka Warlander)

Umm and then start with an Arabian

My favorite would definitely have to be the crossbreed line I worked on for a while on here under the affix "Lusitanbreds". I found it fun trying to get a crossbreed up to a purebred level and for a while my crossbreed named Experi was winning first place in quite a few competitions. Unfortunately without a team being that crossbreed teams aren't a feasible thing, keeping up with my project grew costly between Nyx packs, bonuses, etc so the line Unfortunately ended with Experi. I had a lot of fun with it though and I would do it again if I was able default smiley :)

To continue the trend however I'd say an Arabian mixed with a knabby would be pretty neat! The horse I'll give to continue the game would be a Gypsy Cob default smiley :)

What breed could go with a Rocky Mountain Horse?

I would personally avoid crossing a Rocky Mountain (or any other gaited horse) with a non-gaited breed. Gait is a heritable trait, but it's not guaranteed to pass on - especially when mixing gaited and non-gaited genetics. Crossbreeding like this is a gamble: you don't know what you're going to get. There's a good chance the foal won't be gaited, or if it is, the gait might be rough, uneven, or inconsistent - not what most people are looking for.

Unless someone has a very specific goal in mind, I don't really see a strong reason to mix gaited and non-gaited lines, especially if the goal is to breed for a smooth, reliable gait. That being said, I know this can be a pretty controversial topic, and I respect that different breeders have different goals. This is just my personal view based on what I've seen and learned from others working with gaited breeds.

If someone is looking to cross a Rocky Mountain horse, I'd stick with another gaited breed that shares similar gaits, size, and temperament. Something like a Missouri Foxtrotter, Kentucky Mountain Horse (very similar, but not the same breed), or even a Paso Fino. Those crosses would at least give you a better chance at producing a foal with a smooth, natural gait and a compatible build. In the end, it really depends on what you're breeding for - but if gait is the priority, sticking to another gaited breed makes more sense to me.

(Apologies for the long response. default smiley xd)
