Zero GP

If a horse is born with zero GP can they have any inborn skills if their parents were BLUPed? I breed donkeys and am trying to figure out how it'll work as the GP continues to go lower.

I would assume that as the donkey gp gets lower then inborn skills will continue to do so as well. Having said that, of course, it is impossible to say now what will happen when there are no skills to calculate on. Fortunately because the decrease is lower with each drop in gp I suspect it will be a long time before anyone gets there to find out.

A foal born with 0 gp could inherit a very small amount of ibs from its parents but should not be able to pass any on to its own offspring.

You could ask Contact Us but I have a feeling they will not give an answer even if they have addressed the issue.

It will be interesting to see when/if we finally get there.

Yes, but also no.

It can and does with Donkeys, because that is how they are designed to work. And Donkeys absolutely do still work just as designed.

It *can't* anymore with horses (at least, not the way it originally worked when someone started the Zero GP Project), and hasn't for some years.

Back in the day, if you bred horses who were in negative BLUP, you actually lost GP points in the foal. So someone wondered "can we breed down to zero GP", and figured out to breed two horses who were exactly 2 years 6 months old (who would have a BLUP of -90) and see how much the GP dropped. Lather, rinse, repeat until someone hit a GP of zero... and then we all just kept going to see how far into negatives we could get (the lowest I saw was in the -80s, but I don't know if those horses are still on the game).

Howrse changed/removed the penalty for breeding in negative BLUP a few years after, but someone evidently took some ideas from it and created Donkeys, whose GP drops every generation, with the "twist" that you get the best drops with BLUPped parents (but even if you don't BLUP, the GP still drops).

So yes, GP absolutely can (and does) go lower -- but only in Donkeys.

(Oh, you can get creative with old Negative/Zero GP horses and breed something for fun that started in low positive GP, but it doesn't work the way it did years ago, and if you bred the line forward normally the GP would go right back up.)

Based on my herd of old horses from the Negative/Zero GP Project, a Donkey foal with zero GP should not have any inborn skills.

The lowest Standard Donkey in the rankings has a GP of 104.81, so it's going to be a while before they hit zero (Poitous are in the 200s), but they shouldn't have any IBS when they do, unless Howrse makes a change to that when the time comes.

Okay thanks! I was wondering how the calculations work mostly, since I know there's been 0-GP projects before. default smiley :)
