Howrse turns 20!

HellOw everyone,

It's already been 20 years of Howrse!

20 years of breeding, competing, collecting, sharing, customizing, grinding...

A game is nothing without its players! Thank you for making Howrse what it has been for the last 20 years: a community game where you never play alone.

Let us know what your best memories of Howrse are.default smiley (ow)

Happy Twentieth Anniversary!
Love from the Howrse teamdefault smiley (l)

I just want to say, I never really liked the social media giveaways.

I understand the game needs some sort of recognition on media, but it's outright SILLY to treat those as a part of in-game celebrations from the gamedev standpoint.

I don't participate in them, as I don't want my socials associated with games, but looking at the amount of people participating in them it's a tiny amount, especially across ALL the servers, so they don't really get a lot out of it.

Surely it'd be more reasonable to reward people actually IN THE GAME?
Like, sure, do it if you want to, but don't treat off-site giveaway as a part of ON-SITE celebration. Especially for 20th birthday that should REALLY be a big thing, not a card game, that in 9/10 situations takes passes to complete to win the divine, when Quindecim was much, much easier to obtain.

Also wow. Avatar frame. What a win. At this point I'd rather have an extra mash, and I have oodles of those.

I think part of the problem is just how much they don't tell us and try to avoid telling us. On another site I play, they have an in game calendar that tells us everything that will happen during the year, which you can check out at any time. Why can't there be something like that for this site, even if it is something like 2 or 3 months? We get frustrated because we are kept in the dark constantly, why not just tell us about what is expected to come instead of just playing games with us? A calendar would help us prepare for these limited time offers, for events, as well as how to manage our expectations.

A lot of the backlash came from the fact that this was hyped up, just to end up being a massive disappointment. Even if more is planned, the big celebration should have been on the day, not long after it happened, as it loses what makes it truly special and the excitement would have died down.

It's also a bit off that, instead of something like an event for the day or a code, that we got reserved sales and another money pack. I personally quite enjoy these offers, but they shouldn't have been the priority.

thankyou for the star rain, and the free passes from Quidecim. Even a free mash is welcome over here in Deveron stables default smiley ;). I was here when we had to vaccinate and choose whether to bed or horses in the meadow or the stable based on the temperature, and how great it was to find a rug and not have to worry about it for that horse. I was disappointed when these challenges were removed from the game, they made it more interesting .

Oooo, I had forgotten about those days! Unlocked a core memory!

Remember when we could take jobs at each other's equestrian centers?

Wish I got one bmi in star rain and diamonds didn’t cost 50,000 equus to trade. Other than that I’m enjoying it and I’m probably getting new petit for my collection. I think they are cute and help for objectives.

I don’t do discord and so I missed out on the avatar (which I am not sure what that is about). They really need to announce things on their mailing system on stuff like that.

there wasn't an avatar. at least not yet. they really dropped the ball on this anniversary. people are complaining BIG time and it looks like they are scrambling to do more. acting like this was the plan all along.

I think thats a fantastic idea! Then people can budget on spending money on passes for divines and events. And we can all keep track on what divines had been released. Would be awesome if they also allowed a community voting system on what they want in game and actually implemented it. Not just "ohhh we hear you but arent gonna do anything cause we dont care" blah blah blah..

eh maybe its just the jazzy side of me but I think 20 is such a fun and easy number to work with?

promos like

20 day advent calendar and each window has a prize and the background is the top 20 GA coats most popular that year.

instead of 2 aps in UFOs - you get 20 for 20 hours - only applies to game generated UFOs and low items (ap, mashes, fodder, leather)

20 random horses you have to complete one breeding of every day (Arab, qh, tbs) to collect a special new divine on the 20th day where you must breed 20 horses of certain breeds

give us fun tasks and prizes leading to the big game. mini games for 20 days with mini prizes leading to big sales and big prizes.

but that's just me

What a poor excuse for a 20th anniversary celebration. Most games could only dream about lasting as long as Howrse, and your players are the ones to thank for that. I am someone who has spent almost nothing on this game... I cannot imagine the frustration of those players who have spent thousands on Howrse, just to be left hanging.

They said there would be more, yes. I'm not 100% sure if the plan really *was* to stagger it or what, I think I remember they said they'd be celebrating for the whole month but then later they only mentioned the anniversary date.

Genuinely I have no idea what's going on or why they did it like this, very strange. Especially not giving us any kind of calendar of events or notes on what/when to expect. I don't want to be cynical but it kinda does feel unplanned like some people are saying.

To be clear I don't mean a calendar of events for the whole year like others mentioned, I mean just for the celebration.

Cause they said it would be on the 8th, then they said it was just supposed to *start* on the 8th and there was more, but there hasn't... been more, so it's just like...?

Do we just log in every day this month and see if there's anything...? They haven't even said what's supposed to be in the works.

I've been on Howrse since 2007, and since then, I've lost many accounts due to going for long periods and then returning to the game. Which is my point, I've always come back. This game has something special about it that has always gotten people to come back to it later on down the line.

Most games couldn't even dream of their servers staying online for 10 years, let alone the absolute phenomenon of twenty years. This game has literally seen people grow up alongside it. People who started the game in their teens now have whole families, degrees, their own houses, and a whole adult life outside of the game, and they still keep playing. Do you know how special that is? How blessed it is to have so many dedicated players who continue to grow alongside your game.

Considering all these things, I'm not at all surprised that people are disappointed. I got 10k equus in the star rain, last year I got various BMIs, and yes, you can say Oh, it's luck, but as someone in various Howrse communities and comparing what other people got, it very much wasn't just me. Not to sound ungrateful, I understand you didn't have to turn the star rain on at all, but oh my.

People bringing attention to giveaways being done outside of the main website are absolutely valid in expressing their frustrations. Of course, social media websites act as a fantastic tool, but why on earth would you not promote a giveaway and extra titbits of some sort on the actual website itself? I remember the forum community from literally decades ago, so brimming and chatty, so seeing it all fizzle out for this push to other websites rather than using your own is depressing.

Bringing this back to my original point, I've been on Howrse a long time despite how my serenity looks, and hundreds of your players are the same. We treasure this game, and are so glad it's still here and ongoing after TWENTY whole years. The criticisms you receive in this thread are from a place of care and of love for a game that has grown alongside various generations. I'm thankful for the game still being here, and I genuinely mean that, but please understand where people are coming from.

well the fact that it's now the weekend that really shows they had nothing more planned and are scrambling to put something together. if they had had something planned the only other time to do it that would make sense is this weekend. let's see how long it takes to get more. look how long it took to get the reimbursement for the disaster that happened

I just...don't understand their logic? Wasn't here for the 15th but heard it was fun; really couldn't have taken more than two braincells rubbing together over at Howrse HQ to think, "hey, the user base REALLY liked the 15th anniversary celebration, let's just repeat that for the 20th."

I was fully expecting Viginti to be free..like that Tarpan I'm stuck with, but with an actual purpose/utility.

So far the only good thing about this 20th anniversary thing is that they got rid of the stupid spinning monkey head. Monkeys have no place on a horse game. Thank goodness they replaced it with a horse head. default smiley (y)
