I bought my very first horse
In a kill-pen. Blind in one eye. One day away from being shipped.
Call me a bleeding heart, a fool for taking on a horse with no history.
But I watch him learn to play with toys. Experience love. Experience life.
Together, we will write a new history.
My darling boy,
Welcome to your forever home, Horse #552 Whiskey
1.5 Month Update on Whiskey:
Whiskey has exceeded my expectations. Coming from a kill pen, I didn't have an agenda for him. When I bought him, I was mentally prepared that he may have injuries, sicknesses, or personality problems that I would need to tackle and that would prevent him from ever being ridden. I was prepared to give him a comfortable, spoiled life as a pasture pet, if that is what would be best for him.
But Whiskey is not only completely healthy, but he has also shown to be gentle, calm, and trained to ride. His blind eye doesn't bother him much, and he has enjoyed having treats, pedicures, and walks to graze around the farm. My barn manager and fellow boarders are baffled that he ended up in a kill pen to begin with. He definitely needs a tune up with a professional trainer before I take him out on the trail, but he has his first training session scheduled for New Years' Day!
