got a big box from my mothers laura ashley order, cut a flap in the side
and hid in it, called my dog, and dispensed treats to him whenever he
opened the little window flap. never grow too old for a big ol cardboard
box.

when i was wee, i went to the science centre with my family. there was a
game, where two people sat at opposite ends of a table, and in the middle
of that table was a ball. you would place your hand on a dome on your
side of the table, and told to be as calm as you possibly could.
if you could do this, better than your opponent, the ball would roll to
their side.
i failed, because i made the mistake of thinking of you.
cliche scenes mostly, things that my tiny mind had seen on tv and read
in books, of people holding hands and running through a field together,
of cloud-gazing and star-gazing and picnics at the beach - though that
last one at least was a memory (but in my thoughts i could direct your smiles at me, and we were alone, not sat with the other kids like before).
i thought of you and the ball shot to my side of the table.
when my parents asked me what i was thinking of, i lied. .
