I recently had gotten the divine Fern. What did I do to win her because I didn't do anything special and didn't know you could win her?

What is his birth date? You can check that on his page. That is the day you got him.

Fern was in Golden Fleeces in November 21 last year. Could it be you got him and totally forgot about that?
(I let my poor Ti Amo wait for over 2 weeks before I realised I got him... :))

There was also a 'Plant divine of choice' offer in the Horn of Plenty on December 6th last year where you could have chosen Fern. If you have not made that choice yet, there should be a notification about it in your notifications, that you can click to choose the divine of your choice.
